Cheyenne Long Mr.

Neuburger ENG Comp 102-118 14 May 2013 Response Essay English Composition 102-118 In English Composition 102, taught by Mr. Neuburger, we are taught how to properly write research papers and response essays. We focus on successful written messages and the use of words to encourage, notify, and communicate. We have learned various things in English this semester. Response essays were most likely the most difficult thing for me to understand and write. I am a student that writes down whatever comes to mind and then revises my writings later. That has proven to be both helpful but also challenging when short on time. Today for example, this essay should take me nearly an hour to complete but as much as I revise and delete it will probably take me closer to two hours to complete. Typically there are mistakes in a paper; I tend to have more than others. One of my major mistakes is making statements that do not really do a good job of supporting my thesis. I have been told this by Mr. Neuburger as well as many other teachers and the writing center. In the past I have made the mistake of not writing a thesis as well which made my essay fall apart completely. Writing in general has always been a struggle for me, but give me a math book and I could entertain myself all day. I was taught many new and interesting things this semester. For example, I used to think response essays were just a summary of what you read and how you felt about it. Never would I have imagined that a response essay should have a thesis and conclusion before I entered Mr. Neuburgers class. Mr. Neuburger has taught me many thought-provoking things that I had no

clue about. The class has helped me write better papers in general. Before this class the bodies of my essays would tend to veer off into left field and then travel to right field. I have learned to stay on subject and follow your thesis because it will help you write a better paper. Also, I have come to the personal conclusion that I should respond to what advice I get from others. People are here to help me and watch me be successful; I never would have imagined that before. Technology is a part of our everyday lives and is something we have learned to use throughout time. Technology has impacted me fairly this semester; I havent struggled as much as usual. Being my second semester as a college student it wasnt such a big shock to do what we did in this class. If this would have been my first semester I would have had a nervous breakdown. Computers and I do not tend to get along but surprisingly enough I did not have many issues in English Composition. Using Twitter to respond to Mr. Neuburgers questions over our readings was enjoyable. I had used Twitter a few times before and it made the responses more interesting because of the limited word count. It challenged the students to put as much as we could into fewer words. The movie maker on the other hand was a very big challenge for me. Between the car accident and my laptop being demolished I didnt get the movie completed. I had tried to finish it a second time but I had no time between Cosmetology School, work, and finals. Time and time management are a major part of your success as a college student. I honestly do not think there could have been much more to learn that would improve my writing this semester. Although I could learn to speed up when demonstrations are being given in class but at the same time it does not hurt to ask questions either. I have learned many new things that have already helped me more than I could have imagined. Maybe next semester I will learn more but I think my brain has been in overload since last week. My English Composition class has helped me improve my writing more and more throughout the semester. I have thoroughly

enjoyed all that we have done in English Composition. The people I have met are people I can look up to and turn to if I need help with writing again.
