INVE$TlGATION:

On 4-10-99. at approximately 1510hours. I contacted Katie Twisselmanin the parking lot ofClement Park after she had exited
Columbine High School Twisselrnan said she was in the choir roomwhen someoneran insaying that SOmeone was firing a gun
in the commons area. Twisselman said that everybody in the choir room went into the choir room office. (Note:the choir room
is across the hell from the science rooms). Twisselrnan said she thought there was approximately 60 people in the choir room
office.at which time they barricaded the door so no one could get in. She said during this she heard bangingand shots being fired.
but thai she did not see anytiling else until she was taken out of the school by the SWAT Team.

On 07-19-99, at approximately 1530hours, J contacted witness Kathryn Ulibarri by phone. who is a Columbine High School
student. I contacted her in reference to the shooting that occurred on 04-20-99 at Columbine High School.

Kathryn Ulibarri saidon 04-20-99, shearrived at Columbine HighSchool fur her scheduled classes at approximately 0700 hours.
Kathryn saidshewalked through the Columbine High School cafeteria/commons areaandwentup the stairway to theupperlevel
of the school for her classes. Kathryn said she did not see any dufflebags, nor did she see a propane tank, suchas those later
recovered in the Columbine High School cafeteria. She also said whileshe was moving through the cafeteria/commons area,
she did not remember seeingany of the Trench CoatMatia students. Kathryn saidafter going up the stairway, she wentto her
first hourclass, which was Chemistry, and thatclass lastedfrom 0730 to 0820 hours. She then went to her second hour class.

, class which was History. from 0925 hours to 1015 hours. Kathrynsaid she went to her fourth hour class which was Math and
went from 1020 hours to 1110hours, Kathryn said after her Math class, she went to Choir, which began at 1115 hours, Kathryn
said all these classes were located on the upper level of Columbine High School.

Kathryn Ulibarri said on 04-20-99, she was in her Choir classfor an unknown length of time, when she heard three gunshots from
outside ofthe Choir classroom, and said it sounded like to her they were coming from the area ofthe cafeteria/commonsarea of
Columbine High School. Kathryn said she did not think too much about this because she believed the gunshots were part of a
senior prank, Kathryn said another student. by the name ofBrendan Reisbeck and possibly Sally Melfi. also. were outside of
the Choir classroom in the hallway gening a drink. Kathryn said that Brendan Reisbeck came running back into the Choir
classroomand told everybody inside thai somebodywas shootingin the cafeteria/commons of Columbine High School. Kathryn
said the Choir students exited the classroom by running out of the east door of the Choir room and into the hallway, and then ran
into the auditorium. Kathryn said she was running with a student by the name ofAnna Taylor. Kathryn said once they were in
the Columbine High School auditorium, a teacher by the name of Mr. Andres told everybody to get down On the floor for their
safety. Kathryn said while on the floor, she heard more gunshots that she said sounded like to her were coming from the
cafeteriascommons area of the school. I asked Kathryn how many shots she heard at that point. and she said "tons." She said
these shots were not heard on a steady basis, but were sporadic, Kathryn estimated to me that she was on the auditorium floor
for approximately one minute, and then got up and ran out ofthe north entranceofthe auditorium. and then ran out of Columbine
High School through the main doors by the administrativeoffices of the school. Kathryn said she then into Clement Park and
then into to the Pavilion at that location. Kathryn said. person she recognizedas a Columbine High School teacher told her and
the other students to run away from Columbine High School.and said to run as far away from tbe school as they could. Kathryn
did not know this teacher's name. She said she then made her way to a friend of bers' house near Leawood Park. She said this
friend's name is Andrea Bannister. Kathryn told me when she got to Andrea Bannister's house, she called her parents. Kathryn
said she made this phone call to her parents at approximately 1135 hours on 04-20-99.

student told her that somebody had told her not to go 10 school on this dale (04-20-99), Kathryn said she did not know if the
statement somebody made to this unknown female student was related to the shooting incident or not

Kathryn Ulibarrisaid that at no time on 04·20·99, did she see the suspects and/or anybody with a firearm or explosivedevices.
Kathryn said she only heard the gunshots such as those described earlier in this report.

I asked Kathryn Ulibarri what she knew about the TrenchCoat Mafia, the Trench Coat Mafia students, and in particular. what
she knew about Dylan Kleboldand Eric Harris. Kathryn said she remembered going to the same elementaryschool that Dylan
Klebolddid, but did not know anything about any of the otherTrenchCoat Mafiastudentsor their associates. As tar as Dylan
Klebold,she said they both went to Governor's Ranch Elementary School however, she said DylanKleboldwas onegrade abead
of her. WhenI asked Kathryn what she could remember aboutDylan Kleboid in elementaryschool, she said she remembered
Kleboldhad no friends. and would becomeangry quickly and easily for unknown reasons. Kathryn said that otherthan seeing
studentsin the hallwaysof Columbine HighSchool wearing trenchcoats,she did not know anything moreaboutthe Trench Coat
Mafia, nor did she know any of their names, other than Dylan Kleboid, prior to the shooting on 04-20-99 Kathryn said all the
studentsat ColumbineHigh School knowwho the TrenchCoat Mafiastudents are, however. She said she could not remember
seeing any of the Trench Coat Mafia students on 04-20-99 at Columbine High School.

Kathryn Ulibarri said she was the manager for the Columbine High School Football Team, but said the Trench Coat Mafia
studentsdid not pick on her or harass her. Kathrynsaid she had nO! seen any of the "jocks" pick on or harass the Trench Coat
Mafiastudents, however, said she had seen the TrenchCoat Mafiastudents harassother students, Kathryn said the incident she
saw was in the Columbine High School cafeteria/commons area, She said that although she could not be specific aboutwhat
was said, she saw the Trench Coat Mafia students smart off to students who would walk past them,

I asked Kathryn Ulibarri how she and her family have been doingsincethe incident at the schoolon 04-2(J.99. Kathryn indicated
she is doing fairly well,however,it is an up aod downproblem and in fact, said she has scheduled an appointment to beginseeing
a counseloraboutthe incident. r gave Kathryn my nameand phone numberand asked her to contactme in the future should she
or any of her family members want to speak with JC50 Victim Advocate. I advised Kathryn I would make all the necessary
arrangements for them at that time.

On 6-16-99. between the hours of 1120 and 1138, I hadan opportunity to speak with Linda VanDamme in reference to the
Columbine incident !hal occurred on 4-20·99. Linda proceeded to tell me thatwhenthe incident occurred she was in her fifth
hourchoirclasstaught by Mr. Andres, Sr.,and just afterthe choir hadstarted to warmup, between the hours of 1115 and J 120.
one of the students of the class,an individual hy the nameof Brandon Reisbeck, had leftand gone out to get a drink of water.
Brandon returned to the class,at which time he toldthe teacher and the otherstudents that therewere some peopledownstairs
in thecafeteria andtheywereshooting. Linda toldmethatshortly after Brandon returned to class thattheybegan to heargunfire
and it sounded as ifit wascoming from downstairs. Dueto thelarge number of students that Were inchoirclass, Linda explained

that students started running in every directionand that herselfand about 60 other studentswent into the choir office,where they

locked the doer. Lindastated several hours later, between 1530and 1600hours, they were finallycontacted by members of the
SWAT team, where they were taken from the school.

I asked Lindato describewhere she was seated insidethe choirroom,Shetold me that she was sittingin the sopranosectionand
the risers theywere seatedon were on the south side of the choir room,closest to the exit. Linda was asked who Was seatednext
to her, She told me on her left side was Alicia Juarez and on her right side was Michelle Romero.

I asked Linda if she ever observed any gunmenwhile she was inside Columbine High School. She stated that she never saw the
gunmen and it wasn't until after the event that she found out who the gunmen were, I asked Linda if she knew Eric Harris or
Dylan Klebold, She statedshe knew there were students at Columbine HighSchool and they were bothseniors, but she personally
didn't know them, I asked about the "Trench Coat Mafia" and she had no additional information to provide about that group.
~inda also told me that after SWAT teams had taken them fromthe choirroom, theywent through the auditorium and down into
the cafeteriaout the northwestexit of the cafeteria and up the stairs north from the school.She told me that after she exited from
the schoolshe did see the two deceasedvictimswho were lying out on the sidewalkarea west of the cafeteria, telling me that she
did not know who the students were,

At the completionof this mterview.I again verifiedthat Lindadid not observeany gunmen while inside the school and she had
no additional informarion to provide reference this incident,

INVESTIGATION:

On 081399 I telephonically interviewed Kami Vest. Vest reported that she

interviewed by the police on 042099, but could not remember the agency or
the interviewing officer.
Vest was at school on the 20th of April and was in Mr. Andres choir class
when the shooting began. She was first made aware of the shooting when
fellow student Brandon Reisbeck ran into the room and told Mr. Andres that
someone was shooting downstairs.
At first she thought it was a joke, she then heard lots of gunfire. She
recalled the class splitting up. She and 59 other students ran into the choir
office where the hid until rescued by a SWAT team. She was in the room
for about three hours. The SWAT team escorted her and the other students
out through the Commons area, this is where she remembers seeing two
bodies lying on the ground. Police then drove the students to Clement Park.
She was then bussed to Leawood Elementary.
She reported to seeing nothing only hearing the shooting.
Vest had known Klebold because she had classes with him elementary
school and high school. She would speak, but did not associate with him.
She did not know Eric Harris.
Vest reported to having no prior knowledge of this incident. She was not in

School and dropped her off in the teachersparldnglot, which is on the northeast side of Columbine High School, Stephanie
said she entered ColumbineHigh Schoolthrough the main doors on the east side of the school by the administrative offices.
Stephanie said while she was walkingfromthe teachers parkinglot into the school, she didnot see anythingunusual or out of
the ordinary, Stephanie said when she enteredthe school,she went to a location in front of the Choir room, in the hallway,
and talked to some of her friends before her classes began. She said she then went to her first hour Language Arts class,
Stephanie said after her Language Arts class shenext went to her secondbour Physicsclass. Stephaniesaid after her second
hour Physics class, she had third hour off from anyclassesso she went downthe stairwayfrom the upper level of the SChool
to the lower level, and into the cafeteria/commons area of Columbine High School. Stephaniesaid once in the cafeteria she
selecteda table to sit at with a friendof hersby the name of PennyBurton. I showed Stephaniea diagramof the Columbine
High Schoolcafeteria/commons area and she said she sat at either table "RR" or "SS," Stephanie said she was facing in a
southerlydirection,which is towardthe southwindows of the Columbine High School cafeteria, She said that PennyBurton
wasalso sittingat the same tableand was facing southas well,as theystudiedtheirmath. I showedStephanie the photographs
of the duffle bag and the propane tankthat were later recovered in the Columbine High Schoolcafeteria. She said she did not
see either of these items, or any items of a similardescription, on 04-20-99. I askedStephanie if she remembered seeing any
of the Trench Coat Mafia students Or the Trench Coat Mafia associates in the cafeteria/commons area on 04-20-99, and she
told me she did not rememberseeingany of them, Stephanie said after havingher third hour off fromclasses. she wentto her
fourth hour class and then to her fifth hour Concert Choirclass. Stephanie said when she arrived at her ConcertChoir class.
the teacher, Mr. Andres,wastalkingto theclassabout"a gig"that theywere goingto performlaterthat dayat Columbine Hills
Elementary School. Stephanie said about 10to 15 minutes into the ConcertChoirclass, she heard what sounded like to her
were slamming doors downstairs in the high sClIDoL Stephanie said she now believes the noise she heard mayhave been an
explosive devicebeing detonatedor a gunshot. Shebelievessheheardtwo of these noisesat that time, Stephanie saidat about
this point in time On 04-20-99, a student by thenameofBrandonReisbeckcamel'\l1l1ling intothe Choirclassroomand told Mr
Andres that there was someone downstairs in Columbine High School with a gun. Stephanie said Mr. Andres then told
everybody in the classroom to run into the Columbine High School Auditorium. Stephanie said approximately half of the
classroomstudentsran into an officenext to the Choirroomto hide,however, the other half of the students, includingherself,
listened to Mr. Andres and ran from the interiorof the Choir classroom, into the hallway, and then ran into the auditorium,
Stephanie said When they got into the auditorium, Mr. Andres told them to get down on the floor behind the seats to hide,

what she had heard. She said at the time she thought it was some type of a senior prank. Stephanie said she ran out of the
auditoriumthrough the door,opposite of the door she heard the noisesat. Stephanie said whenshe ran out of the auditorium,
she then ran into the main hallwayand then exited the high school through the main doors On the east side of the school.
Stephanie said while she was running toward the east doors to exit Columbine High Scheel, a windowin one of the doors
suddenly shatteredin frontof her, Stephanie said she did not hear a shotwhen this occurred,however. she believesthe glass
shattered from a bulletthat was shot Stephanie said she did not see anyof the suspects/gunman at any time on 4·20-99. She
said after exitingthe schoolshe ran intoClementParkto the grassyareaby the studentsparking101. Shesaid onceshe stopped
l'Wllling, an unknownteachertold her to keep running away fromColumbine High School.

I asked Stephanie Williamswhat infolUllUion she could provideto me about the Trench Coat Mafia, the Trench Coat Mafia
students, and in particular what informationabecouldprovide to roeaboutDylanKleboldand Eric Harris.Stephanie said she
does not believethat the TrenchCoatMafiaexistedduringthe 1998/1999 Columbine HighSchoolschoolyear,sayingthat the
Trench Coat Mafia was in existenceduring the prior school year, but said these studentmembers had graduated. Stephanie
told me she did not have much information about the Trench CoatMafia, but said she had talked to someof them in the past
She said she did know wbo Dylan Kleboldwas, and in fact had talked to him in the past, however, did not remember their
conversations being about anything out of the ordinary or unusual. She did say Dylan Klebold "was very nice to me."
Stephaniesaid the only information shecould giveme aboutEricHarriswas thathe seemedlikea niceperson to her. Shesaid
abeused to be friends with ChrisMorris, and said that Chris Morrisalways worea trench coat. She said Chris Morris was "a
little eccentricat times," but said it was hard to tell whenhe wasjoking and whenhe was serious. She said ChrisMorris was
also nice to her, StephanieWilliamsand StevenWilliams saidthat Zach Heckler and his familyare friends with their family.

teacher intervened and tOld~O leave Lydie Perry alone. Stephanie said sbe would not consider~a
Trench Coat Mafia student, but said he was "a Trench Coat wanna be." Stephanie also told me that she has heard t h a t "
~as~olvedas a third gunman on 04-20·99, and said a friend ofhers by the name of Erin Walton told her that she saw
_ w e a r i n g a white T-shirt) shooting a firearm inside of Columbine High School on 04·20·99. Stephanie said Erin
Walton did not describe the weapon she saw ~hooting, nor did she know who or What vas shooting
at, other than to say it was on the upper level of Columbine High School in a hallway near the east side. Stephanie said Erin

Walton is very upset because she reels that law enforcement investigating this case don't believe her and therefore are

~verlOOldng~ one of the sheeting suspects.

Stephanie Williams said she does not know of anybody, nor has she heard any rumors of anyhody wno may be manufacturing

explosive devices and/or buying, selling, or possessing firearms.

I asked Stephanie Williams and her father, Steven Williams, how they have been doing since the shooting at Columbine High
Schooloo04-20-99 Stephanie advised me that she has been up and down as far as emotions since 04-20-99, and said this is
because she was friends with one of the victims, Rachel Scott. I asked her if she has seen a counselor or a therapist yet, and
she advised she has been counseled by a member of their local church. [gave both of them a business cardand said if anybody

in their family wanted to speak with a ICSO Victim Advocate in future to contact me and I would make the necessary
arrangements for them at that lime.

A synopsis of the conversation is as follows

Kelly is a senior at Columbine High Schooland drives herself to school. She parks
in the senior parking lot. and arrived about 7.20 a.m, Shecame into the school by
the door next to the cafeteria. She related she sawnathing unusual when she entered
the school and did not observeany unusual bag or backpacks. She usually takes ..A"
IUllch but, that day she was in the computer lab on the second floor scanninga art
project. She was upstairs whenthe fire alarm wellt of! and believes she beard a

On 6-23-99 [contacted Abbott who told me that on 4-20-99 she had just gone into the English office to have lunch
when two students (Emily Stepp and Adrian Barcelona) ran into the office crying and saying that "there's a shooter
in the building". Abbott and the rest of the teachers thought it might be a senior prank and eventually one of the

teachers (Jason Webb) left the office to see what was going on. Webb called back to the English office and told them
that he had seen the front windows shot out and for them to lock and barricade the door and stay inside. Abbott then
said that they did as Webb suggested and covered the door window with poster board. They did use one of the other

teachers' cell phone and maintained contact with police outside the building all afternoon until being extracted by
SWAT team members about 1600 nrs, Abbott said she did not see anything ofthe attack and could not tell if she was
hearing doors being slammed or shots.

The other teachers present in the English office were: Eric Friesen, Sleven Meyer, Lisa Bohak, Tommie Nykanen,

Jennifer Muhullond and an English secretary Jackie (last name unknown).

The original information Obtained from Adam Linnubur was not correct and Abbott never was in the auditorium

during the incident

On May 25, 1999, this investigator interviewed Adrian Barcelona

by phone, He said that he had been at school on the day of the
incident and had finished his fourth hour jewelry class just after
11:00 a.m. He said he had intended to go to the library but instead
went to an office located adjacent to the school Administration
Office where he was to retake a test. He stated that at
approximately 11:20 a.m., he heard what sounded to him like two gun
shots coming from the area of the far west end of the main hellway.
He said at first he thought this was some kind of prank, but then
heard a girl screaming, He said he went next door to the main
language office and was inside there with teachers - Mrs. Abbott,
Mr. Meyer, and Mr. Friezen. He advised that they barricaded the door
and stayed there until they were contacted hours later by SWAT
officers.

but knew who they were. He said they were just another group of
students who hung out with each other. He said he had heard no

GOUlD confirmed his mother's accountof havingheard the "popping noises" then
saw three students run to a Jeep and speed from the parkinglot. He explained that he was
with about 2S classmates in Miss Warnke's (sp?) Art class at Columbine High School at
the time the shooting began. This classroom he describedbeing at the front, north end. of
the building.

He thought it was at about 11:15amon Apri120lh when he first heard IS to 20

poppingnoises which he thought was consistentwith gunfire. He described these
gunshots as being in quick succession, and thaI they were coming from the area of the
main hallwayby the School offices.

Shortlyafter Ibis GOULDsaid the fire alarm sounded, then he heard a vehicle
"squeal" into the parking lot and went to the window and saw three high school aged
peopleget into a late model"95" Jeep Cherokee possibly with tinted windows, which
then sped from the parking lot. He could not recall the color of the Jeep, nor provide any
additional descriptions of the three people other than that two had long hair.

GOUlD said the "Dean" (unknown name) told them to run to Clement Park, Which
they did exiting the school by the teacher's parking lot. After arriving there a uniformed
officertold them there had been a shooting and instructed them to go home, which he did.

GOUlD said he did not knowany of the persons involvedin the shooting, however,
recallshaving seen KLEBOLD around the school occasionally due to his being taller
than the average student. He addedthat he had not heard any rumors or conversations
about any pre-planning of the shooting.

On 05-19-99, I spoke with Lauren Hevert reference this lead. The lead was to determine Lauren's whereabouts during the
incident of 04-20-99, During this interview, Lauren told meshe isthe studentassistant and wasin the ceramics room during the
timeof the event. Shetold me shewas moving things intoa storage roomand shedid norsee anything untilshe was alerted that
~eople wererunning: in the hallway, Someof the individuals running told her to run and she did, Lauren told meat that time
she did not know whyshe wasrunning, but the crowd seemed panickyand she detecteda feeling thatshe needed to get out of
the school. When she got to Clement Parkshe spokewith some people she knew. she could not name, whotold her there had
beena gunman in the school, I askedher if she hadseenanything duringthe incident andshe toldmeshe had not. Shetoldme
that the ceramics room is on the northsideof theschool and shehad exited the closesthallway. which put her Out by Clement
Park. Lauren did ten me that approximately three months agoshe was in a crowded hallway. going from one classto the other
during second hour, and believes shewas going to the Science area outof the English area and the English hallway. Shesaidshe
believed she was close to the bathroom when she heardtwomales talkingbehind her, Oneof the males made a comment that
theycouldkill everyone in the hall, Shesaid she didnot lookbackand does not know whosaid this. Shealso said she did not
report it because she had no idea who had said this. I asked Lauren if there's anything else that she could lend to this
investigation. and she said she couldnot,

On 081899,1 telephonically interviewed Lisa Wasiecko, an Art teacherat Columbine
High School. Wasiecko was at school on the 20" of Apriland in her Art room. When
the incidentbegan she was in the Art roomby herselfduring a planningperiod. She was
in the ceramics room. She heard the fire alarm sound then she walked out of the school.
She exited through a door between the drawing roomand ceramics room. She went
directly to the parkinglot. It was here that she learned of the shooting, She began to tell
students to leave the school and to go home. She reported not seeing or hearinganything.
She saw Harrisand Klebold on campus before the sbooting. She remembered them
wearing black clothing. Shereportedhaving no prior knowledge of this incident.
Lisa Wasiecko will be on a leave of absence this year and will rerum next year.

Mrs. Barnes stated her son is a senior in class and doesn't know who
the person is that ran from the class prior to the bell ringing.
She stated she will have her son attempt to find out the information
from Mrs. Kelly.

message that her son could not find out the information from Mrs.

On June 2, 1999, this investigator contacted Wen Chow by phone.

She advised that she had not been in the cafeteria at the time of
the incident. She explained that she had been in a classroom next to
the technology lab - this was her "English Second Language n class.
She stated that she heard noises that sounded like gunshots and
students screaming. Her teacher, Mrs. Staroeh (ap?) told her to stay
in the room. She advised that ahe and perhaps three other students
did stay there with Mrs. Btaroeh. She believed that they stayed in
the room for approximately three hours and were rescued by SWAT
officers.

Wen advised that she has only been in Columbine High School for
a half of a semester. She had no further information,

Mrs. Staloch is a part-time teacher at cas. She teaches children

English as a second language.

This investigator met with Mrs. Staloch who related that she was
teaches 4th. and 5th. period on 4-20-99. She had completed 4th.
period and left an English sentence lesson on the chalk board for
her sturlents to correct when they entered her classroom. Mrs.
Staloch went to the restroom between periods.

When Mrs. Staloch returned to the classroom the class bell had rung
and she entered her small classroom. A student had written a
sentence on the chalkboard along with hers. The sentence read, "We
should blow up the school." Mrs. Staloch stated she feels she knows
who wrote the statement but doesn't feel it is related to the
incident and therefore wishas an investigator to ask each of the
four students if they wrote it and determine the author this way.
She went on to say she informed the students of the
inappropriateness of the sentence and then continued to correct the
context of that sentence as well as her own.

Mrs. Staloch stated a short time later they all heard students
running in the nearby hallway and then heard gunshots. She kept

her four students in the classroom. She stated she shut the lights
off in the classroom.

After a short time'Mrs. Staloch stated she went into the hallway and
looked out to find the main hall door glass shattered. She stated
she then took her four students into the computer lab room and hid
in the back of the room. She stated they all stayed there until
rescued by the SWAT officers around 3:00 P.M.

Mrs. Staloch stated the computer lab room had a phone in it and she
attempted to call 911 but couldn't get through, so she called her
husband at home who in turn relayed all the information to 911 about
the students location with Mrs. Staloch.

Mrs. Staloch stated she received information third or fourth hand

that a Ricardo Diaz, ph. 303-734-9:213, a fourth period student of
hers, that a party in a trench coat had confronted him in the school
and this party was not one of the suspects pictured in the newspaper.

Mrs. Staloch stated she left her red canvas bag on her desk in the
English room and it had books in it.

Mrs. Btaloch left her REI fanny pack, black, in the computer lab
room. It has her driver's license and other id in it, as well as
her turquoize jacket with a fish pin on lapel and black socks.

Mrs. Staloch stated the four students with her are: Wen Yen Chou,
Steve Kentara Kojuna, Shakespeare Log, and Javier Francisco
Suarez. She stated Javier left his guitar in her classroom.

The interview was concluded at this time.

On Friday. 7.2-99. at approximately 0915 hours. I contacted witness Friesen by telephone at his residence. [asked witness
Friesen to provide me with any relevant information to this incident.

.iesen advised on 4·20·99. at approximately 1115 - 120hours. duringfifth hour he was in the english office having lunch.He
heardwhat he believed to be muffied "rat-a-tat" sounds. Shortlyafterthat time a studentby the name of Emily Stepp came into
the office and said somebody was shooting in the school. He Indicated that he, as well as several other teachers in the office
locked the door and for approximately 2-3 minutes did not hear any unusualsounds. He indicatedafter a couple of minutes he
exited this particularoffice and went to the main corridor outside the main office of the school. He said he observed the front
entrancewindows had been shatteredand he lookedin a westerly direction and didnot see anyone in the hallway. He indicated
he stood there for several moments and did not hear any noiseswhen he observed two counselors that were standing near the
trophycase area, in the samehallway. The counselors advised. "They're still in thebuilding." It was at that time he heard a very
largeexplosion and thought it had comefrom the commons areaof theschool. Hesaid he turned aroundand walked immediately
back into the english office and locked the door at that time. He said a teacher in the office had a cell phone and had made a
phone call to another teacher in the building who advised suspects were still in the school and were advised to baracade
themselves. He stated they took filing cabinetsand placedthemagainstthe door into the office. They also had placed posters
in the windowsto preventanybody from looking into the office. He advisedthat he and 9 other staff members and 2 students
had stayed in this office until approximately 1540hours at which time they were rescued by a SWAT team. He indicated they
were escortedout of tile buildingand took a busover to Leawood Elementary School. I asked what he did at that point. He said

officers on scene were basically talking to people only if they !lad information to provide, Mr. Friesen said h. did not talk to
anybody at this particular time. but stayed at the elementary school for approximately 3 hours, maintaining some sense of calm
for students and teachers who were also there. He said he went to a fellow teacher's house by the name of Lee Andrist, (unk

spelling) and Lee drove witness Friesen to bis parents house which was also in the immediate area. H. said he got to their house
at approximately 1800 hours. Witness Friesen said he did not see any gunmen, assist with any injured students, and had nothing

further to provide.

On Thursday. July I, 1999, at approximarely 1213 hours. I contacted witness Hoffman by telephone for any additional
information she couldprovidein thiscase. I explained to wimess Hoffman that I was contacting faculty and staff members that
.,.d not already been interviewed at thisparticular pointin the investigation. Witness Hoffman provided me withthe following
information:

During fifth hour on April 20, 1999, she was working in her classroom during her lunch period. She heard what appeared to be
a "popping-noise, two times. coming fromwhatshethought might be the cafeteria. Shedid notthink muchof the incident until
sheheardwhatshe called a "thunder" of footsteps behind her classroom from the library and math hallways. She indicated that
she observed numerous studentsrunning downthe hallway, grabbed her purse, and locked her room, really not knowing what
was happening. She said she gat to the double doorsthat exitedout toward the north area toward Clement Parkand heard the
fire alarm gooff Stillnot really sure whatwashappening, she indicated sheheld the doors far students and otherstaffmembers
to allow them to exit the building. Shesaid that she didknow something waswrongwhenshe headed toward this particular exit.
she saw the main front door windows wereshattered. She indicated thatshe ran north toward the Clement Park areaand there
wasa S' chain link fence that she assisted otherstudents and teachers over. Shesaid she sawseveral policecars pulling into the
areaandcontinued to help students overthe fence withthe assistance offellow teacher, SusanPeters. She advised thatshe was

INVESTIGATION

On 081899 I telephonically interviewed Jennifer Mulholland, a substitute

teacher at Columbine High School. Jennifer was at school on April 20,
1999. She was eating lunch with seven of her colleagues when the shooting
incident began. With her in the English Resource Center were Steve Meier.
Kent Friesen, Jason Webb, Tommie Nykanen, Claudia Abbot, Jackie
Reardon and Usa Boback. She and the other teachers began to hear a
commotion. She then heard what she believed to be rapid firing of gun
shots. She began to hear screaming from student At this point she and the
other teachers realized there was a problem. A student ran into the ERe
looking terrified and said, "Someone has a gun:' Steve Meier instructed the
staff members to get inside the room and hide. While Mulholland and the
other teachers were in the room they attempted to call 911, but it was busy.
They did make contact with Lakewood Police Department and provided
them with the details. The police instructed them to hide in the room and
barricade the door. Jason and Kent left the room to find out what was going
on. Eric came back and re-barricaded the door. Mulliolland and the other
staff members waited in the room for about four hours until being rescued by
SWAT team members. She was escorted out of the school by exiting a door
near the front and near the school sign. She was then taken to Leawood
Elementary School.
Mulholland reported that she saw none of the incident, she only heard it.
She told me that she had hall duty that day. She was in the halls from 1040
hours until about III 0 hours. She reported to seeing nothing unusual.

Mulholland recalled a student of hers writing in a journal that she wanted to
blow up the school This student was in Mulhollands English class. The
name of this student is TaranFleming.

INVESTIGATION

On 081799 I telephonically interviewed Tommie Nykanen, a teacher at

Columbine High School. Tommie was at school on the 20 th of April. She
was in the English office when the shooting incident began. She went to the
cafeteria at about 1115 hours to get her lunch. As she was taking her lunch
back to the English office she heard students scurrying and what she thought
were fire crackers. She then heard a student say that somebody had a gun.
She stayed in the English office and closed the door, turned off the light and
laid on the floor. Four hours later a SWAT team rescued her.
She reported to having no prior knowledge of this incident Tommie did not
know Harris or Klebold.
Tommie told me that about a week prior to the shooting, she walked past
four boys, all wearing black clothing that was similar, in a hallway at school.
She saw a tall boy laughing inappropriately at her. She felt it was in
defiance. She remembers feeling scared by this boy. After the shooting she
realized the boy laughing at her was Dylan Klebold,

On 07.08-99, at approximately 14W hours, I contacted wttness Reardon by telephone at her residence. I asked her to provide
me with any pertinentinformation she could in reference to the incident at the school on 04-20-99. She said that she was in the
.nglish officeat approximately 1120 hoursand wentdownto theTRC (TeacherResource Center) to make Some copies forthe
teachers in that department, She said that whilewalking back \0 the English office,she was in the hallway and saw a couple of
English teachers, who"looked worried." Shealsosaid thatshesaw the principal Frank DeAngelis in the hallway andhe looked
worried. She said that she did not hearOr see anything out of order at this particular time. She said that she went back into the
English officeand at that time heardthree or fourmuffled popping noises, possibly coming fromthe Scienceroomarea within
the school. Shortly after that time. a studentidentified as Emily SteppCame into the office and said there was a gunman in the
building. She said that fellow teacher Steve Meier barricaded the doorand thenput darkpaperin the windows and approximately
seven to nineteachersand an additional two students werein this office. She said that another teacher. Eric Friesen, was on the
phone,possibly to police, and he told all members in this office to stay on the floor and be quiet. Witness Reardon said that
while she was on the floor she heardandfelt rumbling noises shaking the building. She toldme that she laterfelt that thesewere
possibly repercussions from bombs which were exploding in the school. She said approximately five minutes after she was
notified of this incident, the fire alarms wentoff withinthisparticular area. She Said that they had the T.V. on and the radio On
very low volume and wereattemptingto try to find out whatwas goingon within the school but reallyhad no ideaoftheactual
situation until she later learnedof it on the news. She said that she and the others stayed in this office until about 1600 hours
until theywere rescued by SWATteams. Theywere frisked and escorted out of the building, across the street. and frisked again

On 7·12·99, at about 0951 hours, I contacted witness Samson by telephone. at her residence. I askedher to provide me withany
additional information that she could that was relevant to this case.

oamson saidon 4-20·99,during5th hourshewas in herclassroom grading papers, and said nostudents were there as it wastheir
lunch period. She said the door was shut to her class room when at approximately 1120·1125 hour' she heard the fire alarm
soundto the building. She thought it was a randomfire drill, and exited the building throughthe door,just sourh of the main
entrance. on the east sideof the building. Shesaidupon exiting thebuilding she saw hundreds of students running across Pierce
to the Leawood Park area. She said shehad no information as to whatwas goingon. Shesaid she sawa student later identified
as Stephanie Munson, who was Injured and was apparently shot in the ankle. She said she had been in the Leawood Park area
when she heard whatshe believedto be 10·20 gunshots in the mainentrance area of the school. She said she was directed to
go further east in the Leawood Park area. Shesaidthe policeofficers along SouthPierceStreet directedher to do so. Shesaid
that she was 00 the next streeteast of Pierce. observing activities at the school. She saidshortlyafterthis time at approximately
1330 hours, neighbors in the area had askedher. as well as other teachers and students if they wanted to come to their house to
make phonecalls,or for what ever reason. She indicated that shewentto an individual'shouse by the name of Schneider (unk
spelling) from the Leawood Park area. Shesaid shortly after this time Mr. Schneider advisedthat he wantedto go look for his
daughter, a srudent at the school as he had had no contactwith her. Mr. Schneidertook witness Samsonand other teachers to
the Leawood Elementary School whereshestayedfor a periodof time. Wimess Samson saidshewas latertaken to the Chanson
Plaza area, west of the Clement Park area, and her husbandpickedher up there at about 1630 hours. Other than hearing the

IO (Det. Jim Vonderohel ia a member of the Coiumbine High School
Task Force that is charged with the duty of investigating the
~~asacre at Columbine High School, In being assigned a lead with
Control #3606/ the information contained in this lead indicated
that Chatfield High School Assistant Principal Chris Mikell had
received a letter written by a Columbine High School student
identified as Andrea Cook that was written to a Mrs. Lucas, a
teacher at Columbine High School According to the lead sheet,
Andrea Cook indicates in her letter that she was acquainted with
~and stated in the letter that he knew about the attack
that was go fig to take place en Colu~~ine High School before it
occurred.
Attached to the lead control sheet also was the original
letter written by Andrea Cook to Mrs. Lucas. The fourth paragraph
on this one~page, handwritten letter reads as follows: lIEven what
happened at Columbine will not discourage me. I will always have
fond memories there. It was the first place where I d~d not get
teased as much. ! guess I wouldn't have been here if it wasn1t for
the fire alarm, I was in my food class at the time. My friends
told me later a bomb exploded close to the room. I'm thankful r am
alive, but mad. t just found out IIIIIIthelped get the guns. At
lease he turned himself in, I kn~ I went out to a dance
with him! He told me, right after this happened at Columbine, he
knew they were going to do it, I asked why he did not tell. He
said he wasn't sure. H

On 05/19/99, IO met with Andrea Kristine Cook, DOB, 06/06/aO,

at her residence located at 79Sl S. Webster Way, Littleton, CO
90128, telephone #303-973-4467. Andrea Cook, a graduating senior
from Columbine High School, advised 10 that her social security
number was 523-59-8206.

In discussing the shooting deaths at Columbine High School,

she advised 10 that on 04/20/99 at 1130 hours, she was in food
class, at which time che fire alarm went off. She stated that her
fellow classmates and she went to the exit and exited the school
with her initially ending up by the tennis courtS. She stated that
during this time, ahe did not know what was taking place until she
heard an explosion and two gunshots.
IO then showed Andrea Cook the handwritten letter addressed to
Mrs. Lucas and signed by her, with her confirming that she did
writ~thiS 1 t r on May 12, 1999, She further advised IO that she
knew and that she had only one date with him. She
stat t wo of them atcended a dance at Columbine High
School in December of 1995, with this dance being a formal
occasion. She then showed 10 a photograph taken of Robert Perry
and her in formal attire at this dance, After this date, she

Narrative:

On 4-29-99 I spoke with Mike Dinkel who was on a list recovered duringa search warrant (item #405). Mike
told me he had been friends with Eric Harris but had not "hung' out with him since the summer of 199B. He
said he mostly played video games with Eric at his housealong with a Josh Swanson (303 973-4579).The
video game was mostly 'Doom'. He said he was not considered a member of "'fCMe during the time he was
friends with him. I asked him if he knew of any reason Eric would dislike him. He said he did not have a
falling out with Eric. He just developed other friends and they stopped hanging out together. He said he still
spoke to him when they ran into each other and never had a argument. I also asked him if he could identify
the people refereed to by nicknames. He was unableto give any addilionallnforrnation to these names. He
was not told he was on a iist found in the search warrant.

On 05.14.99. at about 8:55 a.m.• I interviewed CHS student Michelle Fox as follow up On DN1667, The interview was
conducted at Michelle's home in the presence of her mother. Robin Fox.

Michelle told me that on 04·20·99. at about 8:15 a.rn.. she arrived at school in her car and parked in her designated parking
space. #94. Michelle said that she then walked through the set of double doors near rebel comer, where she waited for her
friend, Lindsay Crandall (12th). Upon the arrival of Lindsay, whosefirst periodclass ends at 8:20 a.m., they both awaited the
arrival of Tina Bernacchi (l Zth), who also arrived at the school et about 8:15 a.m. in her mother's car, which she parked facing
theSChool along the curb on the east side of the seniorparkinglot(Michelleindicated where Tina parked her Car along the curb
on the parking lot map). Michelle said that at about g:18 a.rn.. Tina walked inside the same doors near rebel comer and
announced, "Let's go." Michelle, Lindsay and Tina thenexited the doubledoors near rebelcomer and enteredTina's car. Tina

these items"every single day." After Dylan passed them, Tina turned left and drove out of the school parking lot onto Pierce
Street Michelle said that there was nothing unusual about seeing Dylan that morning, andthat she did not look back '0 see
where he parked after he passed by.

Michellesaid that she is not a personal friend of Dylan Klebold, bu. has known him since elementary school. Michelle said that
she recentlybecame acquainted with Eric Harris.his past semester,and that both Kleboldand Harris were in her fourth period
Creative Writing class. Michelle said that she had seen Harrisaround the school and neighborhood On prior occasions.

Michellesaid that the three of them(Michelle, Lindsay and Tina) then drove (0 a DECCA marketing meeting which was held
at the Wellshirerestaurant on South Colorado Boulevard, just north of East HampdenAvenue. Michelle said that the meeting
began at about 8:45 a.rn.,and lasted until about [0:25 a.m, Michellesaid that upon leaving the DECCA meeting, the threeof
.hem then drove back to Columbine High School,arriving "between 10:50and II :00 a.m." MIchelle said that Tina drove Into
the senior parking lot and parked her car in her designated parking space. which is on the east side of the third row, toward the
south end (Michelle indicatedTina's parkingspace on the parking lot map). At that point, Michellesaid that rhe three of them
then walked through the Set of doubledoors near rebel corner, whereupon they sat down in the cafeteria at table E and talked
until they left for their fifth period classes. Michelle said that she remembered seeing Elaine Bowie (12th), Jennifer Doyle
(II th) and Kyle Knapke (12th) also sitting at said table. Michellesaid that she remained at that table until about II :12 a.m .
after the bell rang signifying the end of fourth periodat 11:10a.m. At that time, Michellesaid that she walked directly up the
interiorstairway to her fifth period class, ForeignGourmet Food, which Is located on the upper level in room L:vl·I, Micheile
said that Tina has fifth period off, and that Lindsay works during fifth period in the rebel comer store.

Michelle said that upon arriving at her fifth period class, she retrieved the "cream puff' which she had baked the previous day
(they get to eat what they make). Michelle said that she had just placedsome ice cream on her cream puff when the firealarm
sounded, which she estimated was about II :20 a.m, Upon hearing the fire alarm. Michelle said that she and her classmates
assumed it was a false alarm. Michelle said that she then placed her cream puff into the freezer, and exited the classroom with

her class. Michelle said that she had a substitute teacherthat day, Whom she identifiedas Mr. Snedden, who ensured that the
entire class left the classroom together. Michelle said that upon leaving the classroom, she and the other students turned right
and exited the doors located near the northeast comer of the gymnasium. Michelleestimated it would have been about 11 11
a.m. at that time.

Upon exiting the school, Michelle said that she stood around near the northeast comer of the gymnasium's exterior for about
a minute, whereuponshe decided, becauseof the fire alarm. to leaveschool for the day. Michellesaid that she then reentered
the school through the same doors she had JUSt exited, and walked south down the hallway that leads to the main east-west
hallway. Michellesaid that upon enteringthe main hallway, "somethingjust told me to turn around and stay with my class"
Michelle could not elaborate beyondjust having the "feeling'lthar she should be with her class. Aside from the fire alarm.
Michelle said that she had seen nothing"out of the ordinary" to this point. Michelle said thatshe then glanced westward. down
the main hallway, and heard "shootingand a big boom"coming from near the west doors I library, Michelle said that she then
saw "one person, and I know that person was wearing black" standing outside the west doors. Michelle said that lhis person
was dressed in black "from top to bottom, with a black hat:' but his face was not covered. Michelle said that because of the
distance, she couldn't make out this person's face. Michelle said that it still "didn't click" in her mind as to what was going
on at this time, which she estimated to be about II :15 a.m, Michelle said that almost SImultaneously with hearingand seemg
this.an unidentified female teacherapproached her in the rnam hallway and yelledat her to run back(north) down the hallway
Michelle said that she then ran northward, back down the same hallway she had just come down, and exned the same doors
she and her class had exited.

Michelle said that upon exiting these doors, she saw "a ton of people" in and around the area near the northeastcornet of the
gymnasium's exterior. Michelle said that she then began walking in a northwest direction, on the gymnasium's north side
Michelle said that after she walked about thirty yards in said direction,she looked back toward the gymnasium and noticed an
individual "wearing white" standing on the roof of the gymnasium, along its north side, approximately fifteen yards from its
west side. Michellethen indicatedon a school map whereshestopped and looked back toward the gymnasium, and whereshe
saw this person on its roof. Michelle said that this person on the roof was holding something that was "long:' and appeared

to be pointing it northward. At the same time, Michelle saidshe heard about four "pops," which she assumed were gunshots
comingfrom this individual on the roof,but acknowledged could havebeencoming from the west sideof the school. Upon
seeing and hearing this, Michelle saidthat she immediately ran northward to the fence that separates the school grounds from
Clement Park. Michelle said that numerous panicked students were climbing overthe fence withher, and remembered seeing
siudenr ErinCoxey (12th) there. Afterjumping the fence, Michelle said that she ran northward into Clement Park and never
lookedback.

I asked Michelle several timewhether shewas absolutely certain shesaw an individual standing on the roofof the gymnasium.
1reminded Michelle that the gymnasium would havebeenthe tallest portion of theschool from where she had been. Michelle
was adamant that she had seen a person on the gymnasium roof, and said she is "absolutely certain" that this person was
wearing a white shirt. Michelle told methat thegymnasium hasa row of "temporaries" thatextend parallel along its north side.
Michelle said that aside from the white shirt, she could not remember anything else this person may have been wearing,
Michelle was also adamant thatshe saw this person holding a long object, but could not confirm whether or not it was a gun.
Michelle's mothertold me that Michelle's account of whatshe did and what she saw has remained consistent Since she first
heard it.

Michelle said that in her fourth period Creative Writing class. she remembers Dylan as "reallyquiet," and that he neverread
anyof hispoems or stories to theclass, Shesaidthat Eric wasmore lively inclass, andwould often readhis poems and stories
to the class.

Michelle said that she does not normally carrya backpack to! from her classes, onlya purse. She said thatshe left her purse
inside classroom LM-l. Michelle said thatduring the 10-12 minute period she sat at tableE priorto her fifth periodclass she
did not see any duffle bagts) or anything else unusual! out of the ordinary. The interview concluded at about9'50 a.rn,
