A Word from our Ministry Team

On this Pentecost Sunday we celebrate the coming of the Holy Spirit upon the disciples giving the Church the power to courageously proclaim the good news of Gods Kingdom through word and deed. This year, Pentecost weekend appropriately coincides with graduation weekend here at UT. In a sense, Pentecost was a graduation for the early disciples as they were sent out to evangelize the world. Their credentials were not diplomas but the very power of God in the Holy Spirit. Pentecost and graduation are both threshold moments that not only call us to be more responsible for the world around us but also provide more opportunities to live our lives for others. In a very real way our graduates are being sent out into the world to make a positive difference. Their knowledge and leadership skills combined with our Catholic faith and values can indeed change the world. All of us are able to most fully live our lives for the glory of God when we connect ourselves to the guidance and transformative power of the Holy Spirit. This power is best manifested in the context of a supportive community of faith. Together as a community we can support, encourage and guide one another in living our lives of faith. May all of you who are moving on find faith communities to support you and whom you can support as well. May all of us be constantly aware of the power of the Holy Spirit in our lives to transform the world.
Projected Year End Budget Shortfall Our budgeted vs. actual expenses for the fiscal year ending June 30 are almost on target for the year. However, despite a good Matching Gift Sunday weekend we still have shortfalls in projected income. We are projecting a deficit of $20,000 that we will need to meet our year-end expenses. Our Finance Committee will meet May 30th, and on Sunday, June 2nd, Fr. Ed will report on how we plan to meet both our short term and long term budgeted needs. Please contact Fr. Ed (frednowak@utcatholic.org) or Elizabeth Lange (elizabeth@utcatholic.org) to discuss ways that you can help the financial needs of the UCC.

Is God calling you to share your faith with our teenagers or to teach the stories of our faith to children? If you are looking for a new way to get involved at St. Austin, consider becoming a catechist for children or youth in Religious Education. Its a great opportunity to meet new people, learn more about our Catholic faith, and serve our parish community. For more information and to find out what it takes to be a catechist (By the way, we LOVE experience, but its not required!), contact Marti Salas at msalas@staustin.org.
