The Revelation (278)

yousuf mahbubul Islam, PhD

Should things be used outside their designed purpose? When things are made, they are designed and made for a purpose. What may happen if something is used for a purpose other than for which it is made? Often people use a knife as a screwdriver. When used in this way what may happen to the tip of the knife or the head of the screw? Either one or both are damaged. Similarly, if human beings are created, i.e. made by the Creator, they must have been designed and built for a purpose. Each part of the body, the intelligence or the brain, the eyes, the hands, the feet, the five senses, the organs as well as the reproductive organs all have a specific purpose. For example, why has the Creator created intelligence? Before we look at the various functions of the human body, we must realize that any designer or manufacturer must have a vested or personal interest in the creation of the functioning object. So, before we look at the functioning of the brain and intelligence, we could ask a simple question like, what the Creator possibly would want from the human brain that He has created? Has He gone to all the trouble of creating the brain just for fun? Looking for a simplified explanation of the functioning or working of the brain, we find Adamson {1} writing: The human brain...simultaneously processes an amazing amount of information. Your brain takes in all the colors and objects you see, the temperature around you, the pressure of your feet against the floor, the sounds around you, the dryness of your mouth, even the texture of your keyboard. Your brain holds and processes all your emotions, thoughts and memories. At the same time your brain keeps track of the ongoing functions of your body like your breathing pattern, eyelid movement, hunger and movement of the muscles in your hands. The human brain processes more than a million messages a second. Your brain weighs the importance of all this data, filtering out the relatively unimportant. This screening function is what allows you to focus and operate effectively in your world. The brain functions differently than other organs. There is an intelligence to it, the ability to reason, to produce feelings, to dream and plan, to take action, and relate to other people. {1} What an amazing instrument! The brain can also process the written word, i.e. read, comprehend and write. The question is, why has God gone to all the trouble of creating such an amazing instrument? What purpose could God possibly have? Could it possibly be that He wants the human brain to work out and discover what amazing things He has done, thank Him and adore Him in return? Turning to the Bible, we find, You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. [Jeremiah, 29:13, NIV] {2} Jesus replied: "'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' [Matthew, 22:37, NIV] {3} Jesus asked us to give complete love to our common Creator [John 20:17] {4} as confirmed in Verse 3.51 of the Quran. Likewise, in the most recent Revelation, the Quran we find, O, you who believe! Celebrate the praises of Allah and do this often; and glorify Him morning and evening. He it is Who sends blessings on you as do His angels that He may bring you out from the depths of Darkness into Light: and He is Full of Mercy to the Believers. [33.41 33.43, YA]

Only those with intelligence to process and evaluate knowledge can independently know the Creator and thereby come out from the darkness of unintelligent objects into the light. The one who comes into light does right by the Creator, i.e. he/she continually acknowledges the Creator, is in awe of the Creator, thanks Him and adores Him. O you people! Adore your Guardian-Lord who created you and those who came before you that you may have the chance to learn righteousness. [2.21, YA] A righteous person is one who adores the Creator for all that He has done for him/her personally. How can you reject faith in Allah? Seeing that you were without life and He gave you life; then will He cause you to die and will again bring you to life; and to Him will you return. It is He who has created for you all things that are on earth;... [2.28 2.29, YA] Not only has the Creator created everything on earth for human beings, He has created all functions in the human body for the benefit of man, i.e. for a particular purpose. What if, instead of enjoying the created benefits and adoring the Creator, one goes against the designed purpose? How should the Creator react? Should we be surprised that the Creator totally destroyed the people of Sodom and Gomorrah {5} for their evil practices of homosexuality and anal sex? Both the Bible and the Quran carry the story of how the people of the cities were destroyed by the Creator. And don't forget Sodom and Gomorrah and their neighboring towns, which were filled with immorality and every kind of sexual perversion. Those cities were destroyed by fire and serve as a warning of the eternal fire of God's judgment. [Jude, 1:7, NLT] {6} The following Verses from the Quran relate the salient parts of the story.

7.80 We also sent Lut: he said to his people: "Do you commit lewdness such as no people in creation (ever) committed before you?
What lewdness? This is explained in the next Verse.

7.81 "For you practice your lusts on men in preference to women: you are indeed a people transgressing beyond bounds."
The people of Sodom and Gomorrah insisted on carrying on this unnatural act and decided to throw Lut of their city.

7.82 And his people gave no answer but this: they said "drive them out of your city: these are indeed men who want to be clean and pure!" 7.83 But We saved him and his family except his wife: she was of those who lagged behind.
As reported by Ibn Kathir {7} on page 131, Luts wife did not believe in Luts message.

7.84 And We rained down on them a shower (of brimstone): then see what was the end of those who indulged in sin and crime!
