Rigging or Responsibility (Pakistan Election 2013)

Though the rigging issue has almost settled in Punjab at least after the visit of Nawaz Sharif to SKMTH, yet for face saving Imran Khan has opted to have four MNA seats test counting and thumb verification by the Election Commission. The election 2013 has ended with overwhelmed turnout of the voters beating all recent records. Traditionally demarcation between pro-Bhutto and antiBhutto ideology at last evaporated in its natural way and what concerted anti- Bhuttos efforts since last three decades could not bring the results, have been done by PPP itself through their bad governance during last five years. A regime full of errors, corruption and mismanagement ensured its corpse to lodge into mortuary for the time being in anticipation of future heir. It looked as if PPP have had great symphony to eliminate them from the political scene co-opted by external support as well. Under such situation they have no interest to go for the rigging blame to EC and hence they are silent. As regards Karachis roaring rigging blames from either side, EC has taken cognizance of it and to keep maintain a crystal clear impression of them, the EC has initiated somewhere investigation and some places re-polling in those reported areas. Details are very much available in the media about it. Data of EC says over 70000 polling stations were in operative to conduct the election throughout the country. Out of which 8119 polling stations were selected for the close monitoring by the independent international and native observers, and out of these selected polling stations only forty nine polling stations have been detected as infectious by rigging. In plain words you may say that these are the places where fake vote casting is carried out. Its true that all the TV channels focused their cameras in the Karachi and Lahore and rest of the part of the country was either ignored or just reported as a routine matter. European Union has also pointed out some of the areas where rigging was evident and more than 100% casting was still a big question for EC. Besides this all, polling stations mismanagement, delayed delivery of election material, lack of timing observance at the polling stations, lack of professional acumen of polling staff, delayed announcement of extension in polling time and habitual lethargy of bureaucracy were the main source and produced many of the results under question. Only one example I can quote from my family experience at one of the polling station in Lahore Cantonment area where my wife casted her vote, She has herself witnessed that polling staff was though discharging duty but looked not at all interested. They had not iron scale to torn out the ballot paper from the pad and for that purpose they were just using their manual skill. Extended time notification was not publicized properly. Outside the polling station, the camps of almost all the candidates were deserted before end of the polling time except one who later won the seat. That adequately contributed towards rigging if someone intended to. Now its the responsibility of the Election Commission to satisfy the candidates and their political parties and where necessary steps were ought to be taken must be seized within the given schedule time so that government may be formed in time without any hassle and peaceful transfer of power should take place first time in the history of Pakistan. Anyway nation is moving forward holding strings of hope from the victory of respective governments in federation and in provinces. Its the time to look forward and avoid past quarrels as people have come to the saturation point of their psychological perimeter.
