HOW TO USE THE PLANETARY HOURS The Planetary Hours are an ancient astrological system used for electing propitious times for initiating activities such as asking favors, investing money, moving or traveling, seeking love, initiating medical treatments, planting gardens, going to war, etc. etc. etc. Also, the Planetary Hours have traditionally been used for timing magical operations such as casting spells, doing rituals, charging amulets, and so on. Complete information on using the planetary hours is contained in my book Magical Living. In brief: 1) Consult the list of planetary rulerships on sheet 2 to find the planet which rules the activity in question. 2) Input the following information: a) The date for which you want the calculations done. This program computes a whole weeks planetary hours at once, starting from the input day. b) The longitude and latitude where you are (get this information from a map or the local library). Input should be in the form: degrees - period - minutes (or just round off to the nearest degree - that will be close enough). Longitudes east of Greenwich, England should be input as negative; latitudes south of the equator should be input as negative. Examples: Chicago: Longitude = 87.39; Latitude = 41.51. Melbourne: Longitude = -144.58, Latitude = -37.49. c) The standard time zone where you are (e.g. Eastern Standard Time = 5; Central Standard Time = 6; Mountain Standard Time = 7; Pacific Standard Time = 8; etc.). Time zones east of Greenwich should be input as negative. d) Whether Daylight Saving Time is in effect (Yes or No). In North America DST begins the first Sunday in April and ends the last Sunday in October. In Europe DST begins the last Sunday in March and ends the last Sunday in October. e) Then click the command button to calculate the weeks planetary hours. 3) The planetary hours commence at the times listed in the left-hand column, and end when the next hour begins. For example, suppose you want to ask someone out on a date (which should be done during a Venus hour) on June 12, 2005, and you live in Chicago (longitude = 87 39 west; latitude = 41 51 north; time zone = 6, daylight saving time = Yes). Inputting this data and clicking the command button yields the following Venus hours for June 12, 2005: Hour 2 begins 6:35 am and ends 7:50 am Hour 9 begins 3:21 pm and ends 4:36 pm Hour 16 begins 10:36 pm and ends 11:21 pm Hour 23 begins 3:50 am (on Monday, June 13) and ends 4:35 am 4) Observe that each days planetary hours are listed from dawn to dawn (not midnight to midnight). In other words, hours 19 - 24 are in the early morning of the following day.
