Develops measureable outcomes for school counseling programs, activities, interventions, and experiences. 3. Specific Topic Being Addressed: Self-advocacy and accountability. 4. Purpose of Lesson: In pairs, participants will each provide an in-class 60-minute guidance lesson for students from a list of topics. The pair will be required to collect pre- and post-data from attendees, and turn in an assessment of the success of their guidance lesson, using the GRIP model for assessing outcomes. This will help participants to learn how to self-advocate through providing accountability data for their lessons and interventions. 5. Materials needed or other considerations: Participant pairs will be given printed copies of a word document with a list of topics included, a lesson plan template, along with a grading rubric. Participants will be allowed to use multimedia and electronic devices, including PowerPoint, the Internet, videos, and music. Participants will have to provide a brief instrument to attendees, assessing the effectiveness of their lesson in achieving its objectives. 6. Detailed instructions: Two weeks beforehand, the instructor will model how to plan and implement a 60-minute classroom guidance presentation on a particular topic. Participants will complete a pre- and post-instrument. The instructor will provide participants will results from the pre- and post-data during the next class, using the GRIP template. Participants will also be provided with the instructors outline of the lesson, the materials distributed, and the grading rubric for the participant pairs presentation in two weeks. This lesson plan will function as a model for participants to use. Two weeks later, participant pairs will be allotted two class periods to each present a 60-minute guidance lesson to the class, collecting pre- and post-data. All lesson plans, materials, and GRIP assessments will be given to the instructor during the following week. The instructor will provide feedback about the guidance lesson, classroom management, and the accountability measures. Students will then complete the following processing questions in a written paper, and also discuss these questions in a large group format during class. 7. Processing questions: The instructor will ask the following process questions to each participant pair during class: How would you present these findings to key program stakeholders, like your principal, parents, or students? What did you learn from your experience? When did you know that your objectives had been met? Why is self-advocacy and accountability important in todays school environment?
