AcuSolve Integration into HyperWorks 11.

This document describes the integration of the AcuSolve CFD solutions into the HyperWorks environment.

1 General steps for the installation

1. Installation of HyperWorks: HyperWorks will be installed and placeholders for the AcuSolve CFD solutions are generated in the HyperWorks environment 2. Installation of AcuSolve: The AcuSolve CFD solutions will be installed. The utility acuSetHW will be executed automatically after the AcuSolve installation to update the placeholders in the HyperWorks installation if the HyperWorks install already exists. If HyperWorks has NOT already been installed, then acuSet will have to be run later after the HyperWorks install has been completed. See step 3 for details on doing that 3. AcuSetHW: This utility can be launched manually to update the placeholders in the HyperWorks installation and to establish the connection between HyperWorks and the AcuSolve CFD solutions. AcuSetHW is placed in the /bin directory of the AcuSolve installation. AcuSetHW can be run multiple times to connect multiple HyperWorks installations to one AcuSolve installation, or to reset the HyperWorks installation to point to different AcuSolve installations. It is applicable for HyperWorks 11.0 and AcuSolve V1.8a or later versions of both. To execute acuSetHW, administrator permission might be required.

2 Details of the HyperWorks-AcuSolve integration

During the installation of HyperWorks, a set of placeholders are created in the HyperWorks environment pointing to the AcuSolve CFD solutions. For Windows this is AcuSolve Cmd Prompt, AcuSolve Job Launcher and CFD (AcuConsole) in the start menu

For Linux, the links acuconsole, acujob and acusim are placed into the ALTAIR_HOME/scripts directory . After the HyperWorks installation, the place holders are not yet pointing to the correct AcuSolve CFD solutions tool. Meaning, when clicking for example on the CFD (AcuConsole) short cut the following message will come up

The place holders in the HyperWorks installation can be updated by executing the utility acuSetHW, located in the AcuSolve installation directory. AcuSetHW can only be used successfully, if both HyperWorks and AcuSolve are already installed. When AcuSetHW is run, the program updates the placeholders that were created by the HyperWorks installer program. On Windows platforms, acuConsole.bat, acuJob.bat and acusim.bat are copied from the AcuSolve installation and placed in the acusim directory of the HyperWorks installation. Similarly for Linux/Unix platforms, acuConsole.sh, acuJob.sh and acusim.sh are copied from the AcuSolve installation and placed in the HyperWorks invoke directory. The links to these scripts are located in the ALTAIR_HOME/scripts directory. For Windows, the AcuConsole GUI is launched using the AcuConsole shortcut within the HyperWorks start menu, AcuSolve and other post processing tools can be launched using the AcuSolve Job Launcher shortcut and an interactive command prompt with the AcuSolve environment variables correctly set can be launched using the AcuSolve Cmd Prompt shortcut. For Linux/Unix, the AcuConsole GUI is launched by executing the acuconsole link, AcuSolve and other post processing tools can be launched by executing the acujob link and an interactive command prompt with correctly set environment variables can be launched by executing the acusim link. After launching acuSetHW, a small GUI opens with Install AcuSolve in HW on the title bar as shown below

The location of HyperWorks home directory has to be specified in the box next to HyperWorks home directory. This can be done by typing the location of the directory in the box or by clicking on Browse button next to the box and navigating to that directory. Click Ok for installing necessary tools in HyperWorks environment. The Cancel button is used to cancel the integration process and Help button is used to display additional information about the program. After a successful execution of acuSetHW the following dialog will come up

In case the execution of acuSetHW was not successful, a dialog will come up providing possible reasons for the failure.
