GALFORD UPDATE

A GALFORD FAMILY UPDATE & INVITATION TO JOIN US IN OUR EFFORTS TO PLEASE THE LORD

SPRING 2013

Philippines Here We Come!!!

The Galford family is heading back to the Philippines this June for 6 months! We are excited for the opportunity to serve for that time. This will allow us to build meaningful relationships and truly start a great work with the people God has called us to serve. Shaun and I went to the Philippines for the first time in 2008. During that time the Lord open our eyes to the needs of the poor and marginalized. In 2010 he went back with a team to serve for five weeks, while the kids and I remained home. In that same year, we were given the opportunity to serve full-time with the ministry. Shauns responsibility as an educator continues to grow. He has taught courses in Biblical Studies and Missiology (History I and II, Cultural Anthropolog y, World Religions, Exodus-Deuteronomy, I and II Samuel, and Prophets I and II.) Each semester he is responsible to teach up to four classes. He is continually striving to develop as an educator. Currently, he is pursuing his Masters of Theological Studies degree. Over the last three years I have been productive as well. Not only has God blessed me with three wonderful children to rear, I also serve as our ministrys event coordinator. When Im not packing lunches or bathing my kids, I keep busy by planning and organizing our ministrys formal gatherings, such as Bible Studies, chapel, retreats, and variety of other events. We are so thankful for the chance to serve the way we do, and it has been preparing us for how we will serve in the Philippines. What we do here is what well do there Our agenda for this trip is already packed! Shaun plans to work closely with other team members involved in education. They will be researching Bible curriculum in the Philippines by visiting schools and churches. He will also be responsible for teaching the Bible, preaching in churches, chronicling our teams trip, as well as, learning more about the overarching systemic issues that cause the poor and marginalized to suffer injustice. He and others will do ministry in churches, prisons, slums, and any other place the Lord leads. I will be serving alongside Shaun and operating as the teams event coordinator. My responsibilities included planning and organizing Bible Studies, event outings and retreats for team and our Filipino friends. The kids are pumped about everything! Everyday Elijah asks how much longer before we leave. He is excited to make new friends, attend 1st grade, and possibly take karate lessons! Noah and Chloe will be our little helpers when we take our daily trip to the market. Noah is already practicing how to pick out vegetables with her Dora play kitchen! The Lord is faithful. We know that God will do great things with our family, our team, and the people we have the opportunity to serve on this trip!

This summer we will not be traveling alone. Six other families will be with us from June to August and two other families with join us this fall. These families are not strangers, but rather theyre our close friends! For the past seven years weve been developing deep relationships through sharing meals, serving, and learning the word of God together. We are thankful to be in the Philippines with people we know and trust.

When we took Elijah to the Philippines in 2008, he was only 18 months old. From the beginning he t right in with the other kids. Now he is six years old and hell be attedending 1st grade while we are there.

This picture is of Candace teaching a little boy named Kevin at a school outside the Lapu Lapu City Dumpsite. Kevins parents made their living by scavenging through the cities waste at the dumpsite.

This picture was taken 2010 at the Hanjin labor camp in Subic Bay. The barracks formerly housed U.S. soldiers when that location was a U.S. military base. Our team would visit the workers on Sunday, their only day off.

Shaun and I are so blessed to be involved in full time vocational service to the Lord. Everyday we get to wake up and serve him! This trip is an opportunity for us to be Gods feet in the Philippines. In 2004 we answered the Lords call to follow him, and we havent looked back. God has been faithful to us every step of the way and has used many of you, the Body of Christ, to help us live out this vocation by giving monetary support. We have already raised half of our trips cost! Now we need YOU, the Body of Christ to help us raise the rest. Please consider what you can give; any amount will help! Thank you for taking the time to read about the calling the Lord has given us. We are so blessed and excited to do his work! We will be updating our blog (see bottom right of page for web address) and G.O.D. Intl will be posting stories as well. We love you all!
