CG-3 / 3M AutoGrav Automated Gravity Meter

The Scintrex CG-3 "Autograv" has become the standard in gravity surveys world-wide. Being the first fully automated gravity meter, the CG-3 has simplified field operations. By providing consistently repeatable readings the user is confident that high quality data is being collected. This means higher productivity may be achieved without sacrificing quality. The CG-3 is a rugged, robust field instrument, designed to meet the demands of normal field operation while retaining the highest data quality.

APPLICATIONS
Mineral Exploration Oil & Gas Exploration Regional Gravity Studies Geological Mapping Civil Engineering Geothermal Vulcanology

There are two CG-3 Models to choose from depending on the resolution and standard deviation you require. The basic CG-3 has a readout resolution of 5 gals with a standard deviation of <10 gals. The microgal meter, the CG-3M, has a standard resolution of 1 gal with a standard deviation of <5 gals

BENEFITS
Easy to Operate With minimal training any user can quickly and accurately collect reliable gravity data. Only a few keystrokes are needed to do so. With the fully automated capabilities, reading errors are eliminated. Those errors are common with older gravity meters because of operator judgements, optical parallax and mechanical design. User Interface Information is clearly displayed on the 80 character liquid crystal display, and stored data can be output to a computer for further processing. Accurate, Automatic Measurements The high accuracy of the CG-3 Autograv Automated Gravity Meter is the result of: Automation Robust design Low residual drift Precise calibration Freedom from tares

Excellent Field Repeatability Field repeatability tests are the best measure of a gravity meter's performance. Documented field testing of the CG-3 Autograv meter demonstrates

that the standard deviation of the difference between individual readings and station means is less than 0.01 mGal. Freedom From Tares Due to the low mass and excellent elastic properties of fused quartz, tares are virtually unknown. Even after transport over rough roads and severe temperature shocks, drift is extremely low. For a 20g shock the tare is no more than 5 mgals. Rugged, Robust Sensor, No Clamping Required The sensing element of the CG-3 is based on a fused quartz elastic system. The gravitational force on the proof-mass is balanced by a spring and a relatively small electrostatic resorting force. The inherent strength and excellent elastic properties of fused quartz, together with the limit stops around the proof-mass, permits the instrument to be operated without clamping. Further protection is provided by a durable shock mount system. Fully Portable The CG-3 incorporates the gravity sensor, the microprocessor-based control console and the battery into one easily transportable case. No cases to trip over, no notebooks, just an easy-to-use, self-contained gravity meter. Automatic Compensation and Correction The CG-3 is constantly updating information from the internal tilt sensors. The CG-3 can automatically compensate measurements for the errors in gravity sensor tilt. This operator-selectable feature ensures that when measurements are taken on unstable ground, errors due to instrument movement are automatically eliminated. Based on operator-entered geographical location and time zone data, the CG-3 can automatically calculate and apply a real-time tidal correction to each reading. Unaffected by Ambient Temperature Changes The CG-3 sensing element is sealed in a temperature-stabilized double-stage vacuum chamber to protect it from variations in the ambient temperature. The signal from a temperature sensor in close contact with the elastic system is used to make a software correction for small residual temperature changes. The temperature coefficient is less than 0.2 mgal/ oC. Unaffected by Pressure Changes The CG-3 sensing element is sealed in a vacuum chamber to protect it from changes in atmospheric pressure. The pressure coefficient is less than 0.15 mgals/Kpa. Unaffected by Magnetic Fields Being based on a non-metallic sensor, the CG-3 is insensitive to even the strongest of the Earth's magnetic variations. The magnetic field coefficient is less than 1 mgal/Gauss. Automatic Noise Reduction Measurement errors due to locally induced shocks and vibrations are limited by smart signal processing. Values of more than four standard deviations from the mean during measurement are automatically rejected. Unsurpassed Seismic Noise rejection from the CG-3 has a very effective seismic filter that can be selected in the event that micro-seismic noise is large. Low Residual Drift The extremely stable operating environment of the quartz elastic system allows the long-term drift to be accurately determined and a real-time software correction reduces it to less than 0.02 mgals per day, thereafter
