Push the power levers forward and feel the acceleration of 70 tons of metal behind you. See the runway passing by faster and faster and then, with one simple but perfect movement, take your big bird into the sky. Now feel the sensation of being in the air. Nothing can be more perfect. After a few short minutes you enter the thick layer of clouds that made the day below so grey. But magically you zoom through it and meet the glorious sun smiling at you. And now? Now you are lucky that Air Traffic Control instructs you to level off just on top of this thick cloud layer. You have the sun on your face and you simply surf the white carpet, and for the first time you really notice the incredible speed you are moving... Wow! Does this sound like a dream? Well these were just the first five minutes of a routine day for an airline pilot. It seems simple and effortless, but that feeling of satisfaction is achieved only thanks to rigorous training, hours of study, endless practice and thanks to the knowledge that has been passed on from aviator to aviator, year after year. Ask any pilot, and he or she will say that in aviation youll never stop learning. Its the constant learning that keeps the job interesting, even after years. Although to be honest, who would not enjoy seeing the curvature of the earth while enjoying breakfast at 37,000 feet and visiting many countries in one day? Being a pilot is never easy, you will probably have some sleepless nights in front of books, you may not enjoy getting up at 4 am to start your morning shift or reporting for duty at midnight sometimes, but believe me, its worth it! The Airline First Officer

Programme

This renowned residential programme trains students with little or no previous flying experience to become an airline pilot in approximately 15 months. After successful completion of the course you will be issued with an EASA frozen ATPL. This licence allows you to work as a First Officer with an airline once you have completed a specific aircraft type training course, and in time become a captain. At FTEJerez, as one of worlds leading flight training organisations, we are privileged to train some of the most talented individuals from all over the world. Entry requirements for the

Airline First Officer Programme

Are you a talented and motivated person with a passion for aviation? If you meet the following requirements we would like to invite you to take our Airline Pilot Assessments: Minimum of 17 years at the moment of applying. Minimum of a grade C at GCSE level in English, Maths and Physics (or equivalent). Fluent in English. In good health and able to achieve the standard required for the EASA Class 1 medical examination. English language
The Airline First Officer Programme is an intensive training course that is conducted in English. Students who are not competent in the use of the English language might struggle on the course and risk failing ground training exams. To ensure that English will not be an obstacle when training at FTEJerez, you will be required to undertake our on-line English test prior to assessment (unless you are a native English speaker). Our English Aviation Specialist will assess your test results and advise you whether you have the required level of English to start your training with us. In the event that you are unsuccessful, we will advise you how you can improve your English and we will invite you to retake the test at a later stage.

Airline Pilot Assessment

Airline Captains of tomorrow require a unique skill-set, which is a combination of excellent technical skills, good airmanship and managerial talent. Our pilot assessment is designed to discover your airline captaincy potential and to see if you have the talent and motivation to become an FTEJerez cadet. Our assessments take two days and are free of charge. You only pay for accommodation on site for a nominal charge. During both days, experienced senior instructors will identify talents and assess your performance in: Mathematics Physics Numerical reasoning Verbal reasoning PILAPT (Pilot Aptitude Testing) Hand-Eye co-ordination Two dimensional tracking Three dimensional tracking Cognitive tests Information processing Selective attention Motivational interview Final interview and debrief If English is not your first language, you are required to pass our aviation English test prior to being accepted for Airline Pilot Assessment. Remember, you are not the only one being assessed you are also assessing us. FTEJerez is the only flight training college in Europe that has a true university-like campus. We encourage you to stay on-site during your 2-day assessment and experience what life as an FTEJerez cadet is all about. We also recommend a visit to our social club where you will have plenty of opportunities to talk to our students and staff about training with us. Airline First Officer Preparation

The journey to becoming a professional airline pilot at FTEJerez is not just about flying. Straight from the first week of ground training, you will be put in the mindset of a pilot and will start thinking like an airline pilot. In addition to the ATPL training, you will also be given instruction in other key areas, not covered by the EASA syllabus. Through state-of-the-art training, aspects such as CRM, Assertiveness, Flightdeck Management and Threat & Error Management will become second nature to you. It will not only help to start your airline career with flying colours, but offers a lifelong skill-set that is unique in the market and will make you stand out during your entire career.

Airline First Officer Threat and Error Management

Threat and Error Management (TEM), is the latest approach to reducing the human factor in aircraft incidents and accidents. Many people confuse TEM with what was once called Airmanship, but it is more. TEM actually takes Airmanship to the next level by providing a system and an overall framework to put Airmanship into practice. FTEJerez was the first UK CAA approved college to introduce the Multi-Pilot Licence (MPL) and, as a result, incorporated TEM into all ATPL training. After introducing Crew Resource Management (CRM) at the start of Ground Training, FTEJerez introduces TEM in the first week of Phase 2; the Integrated ground and flying element of the course. During your airline first officer course at FTEJerez you will become an expert in TEM as this is incorporated in every facet of our training from this point on, both in theory and practice. By introducing you to TEM, which others will only get to practice once they are in an airline, you will have a framework that you will be able to use during your entire career as an airline pilot. As an FTEJerez graduate you are already ahead of the game!

We train future captains, but our commitment doesnt stop there. Once you start your career, you will have many days, weeks and years of flying ahead of you. Our philosophy is that airline pilots excel if they have received excellence in training and have the right attitude, but equally important, that they enjoy what they do. Airline First Officer Threat & Error Management

The latest approach to reducing the human factor in aircraft incidents and accidents has produced the concept of Threat and Error Management (TEM), what was once called Airmanship. Three components form the basis of TEM, Threats, Errors and Undesired Aircraft States. The basic premise is that threats and errors are part of everyday life in aviation and must be managed by flight crews. It

follows that as threats and errors can potentially produce undesired aircraft states, these must also be managed by the flight crew. Management of undesired aircraft states marks the last chance to prevent an unsafe outcome. ICAO defines TEM as The consistent use of good judgement and well developed knowledge, skills and attitudes to accomplish flight objectives.

Airline Presentations
Have you ever wondered what the difference is between flying for a national airline or a regional operator? Do you know what the life of an airline pilot is really like? Most people know they would like to become a pilot, but dont really know the difference between one airline job and another - the differences can be significant. We believe the best way to find out is to hear it from the airlines themselves. FTEJerez closely works with an impressively wide range of airline partners. As all training is in one place, cadets are in a privileged position to meet first hand the representatives from different airlines that regularly visit the campus and give dedicated presentations.

Aviation Campus
The Airline First Officer Programme is intensive and in order to successfully complete the programme and make the transition to your first airline position, you need to be 100% focussed on your training. This is why FTEJerez cadets stay in our state of the art community-like campus. All campus facilities, which include swimming pool, gymnasium, football pitch, tennis court, basketball and volleyball courts, a social club and canteen are just a few minutes walk from each cadets own private air-conditioned en-suite study bedroom, fully equipped with ADSL and Wi-Fi. You are never far from your ground training classroom, the CBT room, the Flight Operations Department and your aircraft. Even our Simulator Centre is just around the corner. This international environment is ideal for immersing yourself totally in your training, which is all in one place for the entire duration of the course. And from the school, what is better than overlooking the runway of an international airport? And on your days off, to get away from it all, golden sandy beaches or mountains are just a short trip away.

Phase 1. Ground Training

On arrival you will be given a structured induction course and be introduced to your Course Mentor, one of the Ground Training instructors who will teach you in Phase 1 but who is your first point of contact and advisor for the duration of Ground Training for all matters, not just academics. The Airline First Officer Programme starts with Phase 1 comprising 18 weeks of Ground Training followed by the Phase 1 EASA exams in week 19, which takes place on campus at our CAA International approved examination centre. During this initial phase, you attend Ground Training from Monday to Friday, attending six one-hour lessons per day, acquiring not only the necessary theoretical knowledge to pass the EASA exams but laying the foundations of the professional knowledge you will require throughout your chosen career. Internal exams check your progress, commencing with a Progress Test in Week 9 followed by Mock EASA Exams in Week 17 which, if successfully passed, validates the level of knowledge required to sit the EASA Exam. At FTEJerez we believe that quality training starts from the first day in Ground Training. We offer innovative CBT training, but believe that the best training is delivered by experienced instructors who have a passion for aviation; our CBT lessons are therefore kept to the minimum. The numbers of cadets per class are limited to well below industry norms so that we are able to offer you personal attention. Our instructors have experience in many subjects but normally specialise in three and are vastly experienced ex-military and/or commercial aviators. The limited number of students per course results in a low instructor/student ratio and guarantees students constant access to the instructors, in addition to their dedicated Course Mentor. All students on the same course will normally be allocated accommodation in the same block, facilitating group study in those blocks or in the classrooms which remain available after teaching hours. During Phase 1 of Ground Training you will study the following subjects: Aircraft General Knowledge - Engines. Aircraft General Knowledge - Systems. Aircraft General Knowledge - Electrics. Instruments. Meteorology. Navigation General. Principles of Flight. Radio Navigation.

Phase 2. Integrated Ground & Flight Training

An important benefit of being able to do all your training in one location, is that you will start flying during your second phase of ground training. This integrated approach is ideal because you can put into practice what you learn and you dont need to wait more than 6 months before you do your first flight. From week 20 to week 40, you will alternate weekly between ground training and flying training. Due to the nature of our Airline First Officer Programme, you will complete this phase without having to change your residence. Most importantly, you will do all your flight training in EASA airspace; with no potentially conflicting regulations from other countrys authorities. Flying in EASA airspace also helps you during your Line Training when you join an airline as you will be familiar with European ATC and with the various foreign accents. This will allow you to better focus on flying your new aircraft. Subjects that you will be studying during this phase: Air Law. Aircraft Performance. Flight Planning. Human Performance and Limitations (including Crew Resource Management CRM). Mass & Balance. Operational Procedures. UHF Communications. VFR Communications. This phase is completed once you sit the exams in week 41; as in Phase 1, you will sit internal exams in week 28 and week 38 to check your progress and level of knowledge.

Phase 3. Advanced Flight Training

Having passed all ground training subjects and with approximately 50 hours flown already, you will now exclusively focus on flying. By week 47, you will have completed 120 hours of single engine flying, followed by 31.3 hours of twin engine flying culminating in the multi-engine (ME) CPL and IR flight tests. All flight instructors at FTEJerez are EASA licence holders and hold at least an ICAO level 5 English Language Competency. Over three quarters are native English speakers. The EASA maximum student/flight instructor ratio is limited to 6 to 1, but at FTEJerez we achieve a lower student/flight instructor ratio to ensure that the personalised instruction and individualised approach of our training is continued throughout your course. Once again, the fact that all training is in one location, ensures that the student will fly in EASA airspace from Jerez International Airport.

Phase 4. Airline First Officer MCC & JOC

The FTEJerez Jet Orientation Course (JOC) is a proven training regime that airlines really value. Successful completion of the course demonstrates that a student is capable of passing the demanding type rating course. It introduces you to multi-crew operations in a high performance jet transport aircraft and is a combination of ground and simulator training. The training is performed on our Boeing 737 NG simulator with each session graded for both handling and multi-crew skills. Specific Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) are used to give the student an idea of what to expect when undergoing type training. The course is pass or fail and requires more than just attendance. The final session is based on the Part FCL Licencing Skills Test. The duration is up to 5 weeks and allows an alternating one day on, one day off roster to give students adequate time for pre-flight preparation and practice. Key features: The use of a state of the art Boeing 737 NG with 3 axis seat cueing motion in addition to exact Boeing 737 NG cockpit mock ups for preflight study. All instructors are either active or retired former airline training captains. The technical ground training covers all aspects of multi-crew operations and introduces the student to jet aircraft handling in an airline environment. Each syllabus exercise is conducted over 4 hours (with time allowed for a break) with both students operating as Pilot Flying (PF) and Pilot Monitoring (PM) roles. The syllabus exercises are designed to bring the student from dealing with simple operations to complex non-normal operations. Many of the later exercises are designed with LOFT (Line Oriented Flight Training) in mind. Extensive briefing and debriefing is carried out for each exercise with written reports to help the student build on lessons learned. Successful completion will result in the issue of the MCC certificate and, if required, a letter to confirm the standards achieved for airline applications.

15.

Phase 5. Graduate Career Development

You have completed your Airline First Officer Programme and are now ready to fly for an airline. Finding your first airline job is not always easy. A lot depends on your achievement and attitude during the training, but also the job market at the time plays an important role. This is where our Career Service comes in. At FTEJerez we have a dedicated team that works tirelessly to find you that first flying job. Once you graduate:

1. You will have a meeting with a member of the career service department to summarise what you have learned during the Career Orientation Programme and discuss your options. 2. Your CV will be checked and will be reviewed with you. 3. You will receive up to date information about who is recruiting. 4. You will receive access to useful information that can help you to prepare for your interview, and other selection tests. 5. You will be able to practice once again for an airline interview, either on campus or through Skype.

6. You will be offered a free simulator session to practice for an airline simulator check (subject to availability). 7. You will be allocated a personal career advisor who you can always contact. 8. We will keep updated information about the languages you speak and other skills you may have. 9. The department may put you forward for a position with an airline when opportunities arise. During your course, you will develop the necessary skills to compete in the job market and we assist you all the way to the aircrafts right hand seat.
The job of the career department team doesnt end here. A member of the FTEJerez team works non-stop towards building, maintaining, strengthening and developing relationships with airlines to secure FTEJerezs position as a reliable partner for their recruitment needs. Finance
FTEJerez has been closely associated with BBVA for more than 10 years. Six years ago we established the highly successful scheme available through this bank that offers our students loan finance with the following conditions: Loan finance up to 100% of the course fee plus any living expenses if required. Repayment period of up to 10 years. Up to 18 months payment holiday. FTEJerez is able to assist with other financing options where required.

Risk protection
FTEJerez Cadets who have successfully passed the colleges pilot assessment at their first attempt and to the required standard, are offered additional peace of mind through our Training Risk Protection. Should an FTEJerez Cadet, notwithstanding any reasonable remedial training efforts, fail the course as a result of performance related factors, FTEJerez undertakes to reimburse all non-fixed training costs incurred after the completion of the Phase 1 Ground Training and having undergone 32 hours flight training, up to a maximum of 35,000 (Terms and Conditions apply). Weather related delays: although Jerez enjoys good visual flying conditions on most days of the year, FTEJerez guarantees that any additional costs as a result of weather related delays will be covered by the college.

Our instructors are without exception highly motivated, charismatic individuals with fascinating aviation backgrounds and a wealth of knowledge and aviation experience. Our Ground Training Instructors are selected for their experience, both practical and instructional, but still have to undergo a standardisation process followed by regular checks to ensure the high quality and standard of teaching at FTEJerez is maintained. Class sizes are kept to a minimum so that the instructor can give personalised attention; all will go the extra mile for a student that may require some extra help. In Ground Training alone, instructors have a combined total of over 80,000 flying hours experience, a wealth of knowledge - all in one place. Most flight instructors have thousands of flying hours experience. Our selection process for recruiting flight instructors is one of the toughest in the industry. Only few flight instructors are invited to a one-month standardisation course to ensure their training standards are not just outstanding, but in line with our quality system. Simulator instructors are either active or retired airline training captains with thousands of flying hours gained in working for leading airlines world-wide.

Training Aircraft Fleet

The aircraft fleet and simulators at FTEJerez have been carefully selected to ensure optimum training value is achieved on each training exercise. Our large fleet of Piper aircraft have identical cockpits and are all fitted with exactly the same avionics and flight instruments in the same layout, to ensure that no re-learning is required between sorties. Likewise, our simulators mirror the cockpit layout of the aircraft. All our Piper aircraft have the classic analogue instrument panel design to ensure solid instrument flying skills. This becomes particularly relevant during IFR training: this is often how the flight displays will be configured as part of the airline selection process to check that the training foundations are solid. Our Diamond DA 42 NGs are the latest addition to our training fleet. They are all equipped with the Garmin G1000 glass cockpit to ensure a smooth transition to flying a modern jet airliner.

FTEJerez Simulators
Simulator training is a major component of FTEJerezs training programme. In early 2009 FTEJerez became the first pilot training school in Europe to incorporate the Mechtronix FFTX New Generation Boeing 737-800W. This simulator has received approval from the UK CAA as an FSTD A device, and is used to conduct MPL, MCC and JOC. This high fidelity state-of-the-art device features collimated visuals and a seatactuation system that provides motion-cueing. In addition, the PA34 and DA42 devices are identical to our multi-engine aircraft, attracting maximum credits towards the Airline First Officer Programme and ensuring a smooth transition from the simulator to the aircraft.

Aircraft Maintenance & Engineering

Continuity of training is a fundamental element in ensuring a trainee pilot achieves the highest possible results with minimum delay. To achieve such continuity, we have our own engineering workshop on campus. The engineering and maintenance centre is EASA145 approved and has a CAMO (continuing airworthiness management organisation). The facilities are second to none and enable us to operate a fleet of ever-reliable training aircraft. The engineering team does not conduct any third party maintenance and is there exclusively to service the FTEJerez fleet. Having this facility on campus provides students in ground training the opportunity to observe the engineering process first hand.

Facilities
Ground Training
FTEJerez has twelve dedicated classrooms, all equipped to support a range of delivery media including Wi-Fi coverage. Additionally, as an authorised CAA International Exam Centre, there is a dedicated exam room. An internal computer based training (CBT) section produce customised training packages that support and enhance the lessons given by industry professionals. The CBT material is available in the classrooms but also, through the intranet and via WiFi connections in student accommodation and elsewhere on campus, allowing students 24 hour access for revision or reference purposes. FTEJerez has internally produced manuals tailored to the latest EASA requirements and constantly reviewed and updated by CAA certified instructors who, on average, have at least 20 years experience in the aviation industry. An aviation library, together with on-line access to source documents through the campus intranet and Wi-Fi, allow 24 hour access for research and revision.

Flight Training
In the operations building, dedicated flight planning and operational dispatch areas ensure that students are provided with all the information and tools normally found in an airline environment. Fully equipped briefing rooms are also available for one-on-one briefs and debriefs with the instructor before and after every training sortie (both for flight and simulator exercises).

Simulator Training
FTEJerezs Flight Simulation Centre houses all of our simulator training devices and additional classrooms, as well as providing realistic dispatch material.

History
FTEJerez is a direct descendant of the prestigious British Aerospace Flying College at Prestwick, Scotland. In 1999 the school was relocated to Jerez and became FTEJerez in 2003. This lineage of quality airline pilot training has been preserved and enhanced, as FTEJerez has established itself as one of the worlds finest airline pilot training establishments, renowned for its exceptional integrated ATPL course: The First Officer Airline Programme.

FTEJerezs home is in the Andalusian city of Jerez de la Frontera, characterised by its friendly and welcoming locals in an authentic and unspoilt environment. Jerez is considered as Spains Sherry wine and horse capital and is also the home of Flamenco. Jerez possesses many hidden treasures such as centuries old wine cellars or bodegas, the Royal Andalusian School of Equestrian Art, as well as the citys architectural heritage. If you like motorsport, the Jerez Motor Racing Circuit hosts a busy calendar of events throughout the year, including the MotoGP. From the campus you have easy access to some of Spains most picturesque and well-preserved beaches, mountains and natural parks. If you like watersports, especially wind and kite surfing, Tarifa is the place for you. At just over an hours drive from Jerez, its laid back vibe and almost year round easterly winds contribute to it being a centre for enthusiasts from all four corners of the globe. To the north you have Seville, with its magnificent Cathedral, and to the south the British colony of Gibraltar, both having their own international airports and within easy reach. For maximum convenience, the airport of Jerez is adjacent to the campus and is connected with London, Madrid, Barcelona and several other European destinations, with regular scheduled flights. Although the priority at FTEJerez is your airline pilot training, the regional culture of world renown, almost 300 days of sun per year, the climate, local gastronomy and stunning surroundings, allow you to relax in style over the weekends and enjoy a once in a lifetime experience.

Other Flying Courses

We are specialists in offering integrated ATPL training through our Airline First Officer Programme. However, if you have chosen the modular route to become an airline pilot, you may still wish to consider completing part of your training at FTEJerez. If you are interested in any of the following courses, then please contact us and a Training Advisor will provide you with more detailed information and availability: CPL/IR. A 14 week course for those who have selected the modular training route. This course provides high quality finishing components of a modular ATPL path using the same standards and instructors that train integrated students. Multi-Crew Cooperation (MCC). A 2-3 week course conducted on FTEJerezs state-of-the-art Boeing 737 simulator with 3-axis seat cueing motion.

Jet Orientation Course (JOC). A non-regulatory course that provides students with the fundamentals required for upgrading from a small single-crew training aircraft to a multi-crew jet airliner. This course is often one of the minimum requirements for airlines when they recruit low-hours pilots. Upset Recovery Training (URT). We are the first FTO to be formally approved by the UK CAA for this purpose.

The training throughout is well structured, with ground training and flying combined after Phase 1.
