Aid is disbursed based on enrollment on the census date each semester. The census date is the last day to add a full semester course as published in the Academic Calendar. DIRECT LOANS Morehead State University participates in the Direct Loan program. Direct Lending is a federal loan program, known officially as the William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan Program. Loans made under this program are called Federal Direct Stafford/Ford Loans. With Direct Loans you are borrowing directly from the federal government. Federal regulations require a minimum of two equal disbursements for all loans. If your loan is for both the fall and spring semesters, your first disbursement will be in the fall and the second disbursement in the spring. If you applied for a loan for one semester only, the second disbursement of your loan cannot apply to your account until mid-semester. Loan disbursements will be credited to your account. After fees are paid, you will receive any remaining funds as a refund. To apply for a Federal Direct Stafford/Ford Loan (a Direct Loan); complete the section on Direct Loans that appears on the front of this form. Once your loan awards have been made you will receive instructions on completing any required promissory note and/or online entrance counseling. If, at this time, you have not decided to apply for a Direct Loan, you may apply later by requesting a Direct Loan Application from our office. Subsidized Loan = The portion of your Direct Loan that is based on your calculated need. The federal government pays your interest while youre in school on at least a half-time basis. Unsubsidized Loan = The portion of your Direct Loan that is not need based. Interest accrues while you are in school. The interest can be paid or deferred.
