Trees are essential for the existence of the human race as they provide the oxygen that we need

to survive. Yet, daily, all around the globe, large areas of woodland are being destroyed. Many people feel that they, as individuals, can do nothing and that only governments and large companies can halt the destruction. How far do you agree or disagree with this ? The Amazon rainforest is the largest tropical rainforest in the world. It comprises a large diversity of species and trees. The trees in the rainforest have played an important role in providing human beings and other living beings with much needed oxygen. However, some concerns have been raised about the recent deforestation of the Amazon rainforest and many citizens have questioned their ability to halt the destruction. They believe that only governments and large companies can stop this. I believe that the government and large companies have the enforcement power to halt the destruction effectively. They have the authority to amend the education system in their respective countries. They can introduce the importance of trees on Earth in the school syllabus to create further awareness in the community. Apart from that, it is true that the large organisations and governments have a sufficient amount of finance to introduce new things to society. Their available resources and capacity can provide a significant contribution in slowing down the process of deforestation. However, I do not believe that governments and organisations can stop the destruction completely through law enforcement or awareness campaigns. My argument would be that human beings still need trees to provide for our needs and wants. On the other hand, I also disagree with the opinion that individuals are helpless in halting the deforestation. As individuals, we can also a play a part in it by simple daily actions. Recycling, for instance, is arguably one of the best ways for us to slow down the process of manufacturers cutting down our trees and destroying mother nature. Reduce, reuse and recycle can simply provide the manufacturers with the alternative of reusing the current resources, which means less tress being cut down. Aside from that, individuals could always join an action group and stand as one in protesting. Individuals are the element of our society and their voice can sometimes overcome the problems faced by creating a signal for the government to look into the matter. Yet, again, I believe deforestation cannot be completely halted unless new, alternative resources to trees are discovered. All in all, I really believe that everyone has a role to play in halting the process of the destruction of mother nature. Trees are considered the jewel of the Earth, alongside water. Therefore we, as individuals, should take the necessary actions mentioned above to slow down the rate of deforestation.
