Final Writing Project Options

The last SIX full page, creative essay will count as half of the final exam grade. The other half of the final grade will be comprised of the electronic writing portfolio, (details on the portfolio requirements will be on a separate handout.) OPTIONS FOR WRITING PROJECT: 1. Write the long lost chapter of Mary Shelleys Frankenstein novel. The chapter may be about and/or by the monster, his creator Victor before, during or after the invention of the monster, OR may be about Robert Walton, the arctic explorer who rescued Victor Frankenstein and listened to his story. The chapter should have some elements of the gothic Romantic style. Nature, imagination, and inner workings of the mind are a focus for the chapter of a Romantic dramatic novel . 2. Write the story behind the image. Select a photograph from those I have provided and write the story that exists behind the image. Be sure to create your character (s) and tie the setting of the image into the story in some way. You may wish to tie in the Romantic or gothic flight of nature or imagination into the tale. 3. Write a short story mystery. Remember to include necessary elements of a good mystery story. *Setting-include good physical description, especially if it relates to the problem to be solved. *Characters: May choose one character to solve or sort through the problem and/or a character to make a mistake or be the victim of some ruse *CREATE SUSPENSE: Write a problem to be solved or a secret that remains unexplained. *Clues-plant events or incidents that assist in solving the problem or the mystery *MAY include a distraction-an incident to throw off the reader or the character *CONCLUSION-the events conclude and the mystery is solved. 4. Write a dramatic story with (or without!) a twist ending.
