Sanitation Test Kits Overview

Neogen offers sanitation monitoring test kits to detect adenosine triphosphate (ATP), a substance found in all animal, vegetable, bacteria, yeast and mold cells; food protein residues; and microbial contamination. AccuPoint 2 Sanitation Monitoring System measures the ATP collected from food contact surfaces or liquids as an indication of the cleanliness of the surface or purity of the liquid. AccuPoint 2 works by measuring the light created when ATP contacts a reagent in the systems unique sampling devices (see page 11 for a description of how our AccuPoint 2 Sanitation Monitoring System works). The higher the levels of food residue and microorganisms in a surface or water sample, the more ATP present, and the more light produced. AccuClean is a simple test for the detection of protein and some sugars on food production surfaces. This fully self-contained test requires no instrument for reading and can be operated with a minimum of training. Its ideal for food service applications and food processors who want an objective, inexpensive and quick method to gauge their sanitation levels but cannot justify a full ATP sanitation monitoring program. The samplers vertical sampling technique increases downward pressure on the surface. This helps penetrate surface crevasses, and break up existing biofilms to uncover previously protected organisms. The sponge will reabsorb the liquid, with any present organic matter or bacteria, for consistently accurate results.

Intended Use
Neogens AccuPoint 2 ATP Sanitation Monitoring System is a lightweight, handheld system that validates the effectiveness of a sanitation program by detecting food residues and microorganisms present on surfaces and in liquids. The system utilizes easy-to-use AccuPoint samplers, which automatically mix prepared reagents to quickly generate results.

Cartridge

The Test
The AccuPoint system utilizes adenosine triphosphate (ATP) bioluminescence to determine the cleanliness of test samples. ATP is a chemical compound found in all living cells, including bacteria, food debris, yeast and mold. Bioluminescence is a chemical reaction that produces light. ATP bioluminescence occurs when ATP from a sample comes into contact with luciferase, an enzyme found in fireflies, and luciferin, a substrate. The amount of light emitted in this reaction is proportional to the amount of ATP detected in a sample. After a sample is taken the sampler is pressed into its cartridge, breaking its seal and initiating the mixing of reagents. The cartridge contains a buffering solution, which flushes the ATP onto a pad containing the reagents. The reaction takes place within the cartridge and a detector measures the amount of light produced. The reading is displayed on the LCD display in relative light units (RLU). According to preset limits, an icon is displayed indicating a pass, marginal or fail result. These limits are defined by the operator or by using the system presets. Use the Access sampler for tight spaces AccuPoint comes with Data Manager software that allows customers to: upload results to a PC, set pass/caution/fail levels, create and print trend analysis graphs, export data to spreadsheets, and keep a record of sanitation effectiveness to verify SSOPs. Results can be presented in a clear chart format showing the actual measurement in color coded green (pass), yellow (caution) and red (fail) for extra clarity. Accumulated results can be graphed using bar or pie charts, over a variety of criteria, for clear pictures of sanitation testing results and trends.

Intended Use
AccuClean is intended to be used as a simple method to determine the cleanliness of food contact surfaces and equipment. The user simply rubs the samplers tip across a surface, places the sampler back in its cartridge and activates the test by depressing the plunger through the cartridge. After 10 minutes, the sampling tip is compared to a color chart to gauge the level of protein detected.

Results
A color change will occur within the small disc located at the bottom of the cartridges cup. To best interpret the tests result, insert the cup into the hole in the color chart provided with the tests.
