CCNA 2 Lab-skills Exam

The objective of this exam will focus on testing your skills competency in VLSM subnetting and intradomain routing. This exam consists of two parts; basic network configuration and OSPF routing. Main Task: Your main task is to setup and configure one Cisco 2800 router and the local network attached by one Cisco Catalyst 2960 switch for your particular location. You must finally provide a verified connectivity with the whole district network. Tools: You may only use the items listed below. This implies that you are not allowed to use notes or any course material. Context sensitive help (?) Scratch paper Questions to your supervisor Important: Please read carefully throughout the text and follow the instructions step by step. Overview: You are the network administrator for a local elementary school. You have to connect the school to the rest of a school district. The figure below shows the topology of the whole network of the district.

There are three routers, which are administered by the school District Office (DO). These routers accommodate the necessary access to the backbones of the district network. The three district office routers, named Ramberget (Router_4), SciencePark (Router_8), and Lindholmen (Router_9) are already configured and running. Each of the six remaining routers represents an elementary schools router named Jupiter (Router_1), Saga (Router_2), Patricia (Router_3), Santos (Router_5), Svea (Router_6) and Aran (Router_7). These routers are connected by serial WAN-links to the DO. You will be assigned to one of the elementary schools, with which you will work throughout this test. Part 1: Basic Network Configuration

This is first part of the CCNA 2 practical final exam. It will occur in three stages where you will be asked at each stage to carry out a simple set of tasks. The supervisor will score you on your ability to complete each task. The three stages include tasks on: 1. IP addressing and VLSM subnetting (paperwork only) 2. Workstations configuration 3. Basic router configuration Step 1: IP addressing scheme with VLSM The district has decided to create VLSM subnets by variably subnetting a class C network address 203.202.201.0 in order to efficiently assign addresses for hosts, network devices and WAN-links in the district network. This means that you are expected to understand the VLSM subnetting for the entire districts network as its shown in the topology diagram (on the first page). Note that the figure of network topology is showing only the last dotted octet of some already assigned IP addresses (i.e. IP host part of the address). As you can see in the figure, some of the VLSM subnets are already in use by the district. To help you understanding the VLSM scheme of the district, the network IP address has been basically subnetted to create 8 equal subnets in total. The first one is subnet-zero 203.202.201.0/27. This subnet has been furthermore subnetted into two smaller subnets, which are used for the backbones. The last subnet, which is 203.202.201.224/27, has been sub-subnetted into 8 smaller subnets (with 30-bits mask), of which six are used for the WAN-links. Each of the six remaining subnets will be assigned to a school network. You have to arrange the six remaining subnets in an ascending order as a numbered list. You will use the order your school is appearing in the figure beginning from left in order to decide which IP address of the subnet you are assigned. The order of the routers from left to right maps the same number that you give each remaining subnet in your arranged list. Now use the worked mapping to decide which subnet IP address your schools LAN is assigned. Your subnet IP-address is: ___________________________/____ Additionally, you will need to calculate the host range (first address to last address) of your subnet. The host range is: ___________________________ --___________________________

What is the IP address of the subnet used for the WAN-link between your schools router and the district router? Answer: ___________________________/____ Step 2: Workstations Configuration For security purposes and within every school, it was decided by the DO that all the student workstations should be given the upper half IP (larger) numbers of the available addresses in the host range of each schools LAN (your subnet). All faculty (or administrative) workstations and networking equipment (routers, switches, servers, printers etc.) will be given the lower half (smaller) numbers of the available IP addresses within the same range.

Routing Technology

You have only two PCs as example of school workstations to configure for the purpose of this Exam. The first one is a faculty workstation WS1; labeled WinXP-nb and the other one is student workstation WS2; labeled WinXP-na (where n is the number of workplace). These two workstations are already attached to your schools switch. This switch has only default configuration during this exam. Now choose suitable IP addresses and fill in value of each component in the following table.

Component IP address of your subnet Subnet Mask IP address of WS1 (faculty) IP address of WS2 (student) Default Gateway

Value

Setup the two workstations of your Peer-to-peer LAN so that they are prepared to communicate with other parts of the network through the access router and the switch to which they are attached. Please notice the following: Use the above data sheet as reference for workstations configuration. Ensure correct settings of IP address, subnet mask and default gateway. Ping from WS1 to WS2 on your LAN: Step 3: Router Configuration You have been assigned a certain Router Name for your location, which indicates the corresponding hostname of the access router. You will be responsible for configuring only your schools router and the LAN part. The router has a FastEthernet interface 0/0 which is already connected to the switch. The WAN-link, between your schools router and the district router, is using V.35 connection by serial cable that is already connected to the serial interface 0/1/0 of your router. The connection will use default encapsulation and will be synchronized (with a suitable clock rate delivered) by the serial interface S0/1/0 of your router. Fill in value of each component in the following table as required. Result: ____________________________________

Router Hostname Secret password Console/VTY password IP address of FastEthernet Interface 0/0 IP address of Serial Interface 0/1/0 Clock rate
Note: NVRAM (startup config file) in each access router has been erased prior to starting the exam. Computer Science and Engineering Instructor: Ali S. Salehson Labtest_CCNA2_11 Page:3

Using the above data sheet as reference, configure your router with standard configuration from the command line using the console at the faculty workstation (WinXP-nb). You may only use online IOS help but you are not allowed to console any other router in the network. You must configure your schools router so that your schools LAN will be able to communicate with the district network. Ping your router from the faculty WS. Successful?____________Why or why not?

. Telnet your router from the student WS. Successful?____________Why or why not?

. Ping the attached district router from faculty WS. Successful?____________Why or why not?

Part 2: OSPF routing

This is the second part of CCNA 2 practical final exam. The district has also chosen to use OSPF as its routing protocol and the whole network has been considered as one single area. Now configure OSPF routing on your schools router so that your school will be able to communicate with the district network. All OSPF configuration parameters (Router ID, priority, cost and timers) are set by default. View the information about the OSPF neighbor routers. Neighbor ID Pri State Dead Time Address Interface

. . Access a DO web-server from the student WS. Showing the routing table, explain how your router could be able finding path to this web server. . What is the path cost to access this server by the workstation? Explain. . ... Showing the routing table, what are the advertised subnets of the other LANs? (Only dotted last octet) ... ...
