What an exciting time! As I write this we are getting ready to pave our Parking Areas! By the time you read this, the work will be done and the property blessed! I have had the wonderful experience of following this project from vision to completion and it has been trilling! Our church has an amazing record as far as building projects go. I thought you might enjoy a brief review. We begin as a Study Group with Practitioner Thelma McHenry leading in the spring of 1953. The group grew into Pre-Church status by summer, 1954 and was named "First Church of Religious Science Covina." Thelma McHenry received her Ministerial License and Dr. Ernest Holmes presented the Church Charter on May 9, 1955. This is really very quick movement, as I have seen many groups take years to become chartered, this church accomplished this status in just 2years! Remarkable! The next thing this amazing church did was to create a building program, forming a Building and Fundraising Committee lead by Carl Bennitt. This dedicated group quickly purchased the almost three acres of property where our beautiful

church is today! They approved the plans for the building of the Chapel and Ofces (originally the Jr. Church wing). Funds were raised, pledges made and financing secured. Construction began! The first official Sunday service was conducted in the completed structures on November 17, 1957. In just four short years this church went from spiritual vision to material buildings and property. I nd this awe inspiring! We didnt stop there. The church mortgage was burned in the mid 1960s, creating a debt free home for our congregation. Dr. McHenry was called to serve in the United Church of Religious Science Home Ofce, and Rev. William Hemphill was called as our second Minister. In the late 1960s and early 1970s we enclosed the breezeway to create our lobby and built a new Junior Church/Classroom Building. In the 1980s we changed our name to the East San Gabriel Valley Church of Religious Science, refurbished the Chapel, and built Harmony Hall! Dr. William Hemphill resigned in August, 1994. In July, 1996 I was called continued on page 3

We are a vibrant, loving community and an inspirational resource for spiritual awakening and personal growth.

The purpose of this Church shall be to serve as a Spiritual Development Center by making available the knowledge and practice of Science of Mind to all people, and especially to its members, and to foster their spiritual, cultural and general well-being and to provide facilities for education, fellowship and public worship.

Vision Statement Mission Statement

FROM THE BOARD

by Wilvesta Morgan Jr., President
Our Community is oating on a gigantic cloud of excitement as I write this article. Ground breaking for the Parking Areas Restoration is about to begin on April 8th and the project will be complete by the time you read these words! This is a tremendous endeavor for our church. It was a five year dream, that our Ministers, the Board of Trustees, our Practitioners and our magnicent congregation have prayed for and we have held our vision! We knew that if we stayed the course and put forth our efforts towards our goal, we would achieve our dream of raising the necessary funds to accomplish our dreams. We have always believed that as you pray, you also have the responsibility to move your feet and to do your part to make your goal become a reality. Your goal isnt going to just fall out of the sky. Our founder, Ernest Holmes wrote "God can work for us only by working through us." Haw blessed we have been during these ve years. We have given many events during this period to raise funds and have received many donations. I would be very remiss and selsh if I didnt mention all of the magnicent individuals that contributed their professional talents with their vices, various instruments, and their response to the audience as we applauded each one. Our deepest gratitude is extended to our extraordinarily talented Music Director, Mary Ekler, who coordinated with Paula Aghajanian, along with her Dream With Me Foundation of outstanding musicians and singers, appeared in two concerts to help raise funds for our Paring Lot Fund. We are honored each Sunday morning to hear the excellent songs and piano artistry of Mary and often to be thrilled by the amazing voice of Paula. They are simply fantastic. Our love and appreciation is also given to David and Christy Cohen for the two amazing concerts that they gave to assist us in our fund raising. Their talents are always so inspiring. And we cannot forget Tina Meeks and her outstanding concerts and guest events. In addition we want to thank Anton Mizerak who has also given concerts every year. In addition to these events, we are certainly thankful to all of the organizations of our church, for your contributions that you have continuously made throughout the ve years that we have been in the process of raising funds for this tremendous project. Who can forget the laughter we shared during the Practitioner Follies or the fun we have had in events created by the Womens Focus Group and now the Visions In Progress Group? Finally, on behalf of the Board of Trustees, Rev. Kris, Rev. Carol, Rev. Greg and our truly wonderful group of Practitioners , who have held this vision in prayer and in our hearts, it is with our deepest love and gratitude that we thank our extraordinary congregation, members, friends and visitors, for all of the support that you have so graciously given to our church, during this long period of fund raising. Without your support, this would not have been possible. We continue to demonstrate our belief in our vision statement that we are a vibrant, loving community and an inspirational resource for Spiritual awakening and personal growth. (and that is what we are!) It is with joy and happiness that I shine my spot light on our distinguished member, James Kilgore, for all of his time and dedication that he has given in his steadfast determination to complete all of the necessary work to bring the Parking Areas Restoration Project to its completion. James has been relentless in his effort to nd the right contractors with the best bids to do the work for our church. Your Board has discussed all aspects of the contractors and the bids. We are in total agreement with the package that has been offered. James, it is with our entire church community standing in total awe and saluting you for a fabulous job, well done, we thank you! On April 28, Rev. Kris and the Ministerial Staff will ask you to join in a blessing for our church. Our congregation will walk around the entire Church property, praying and sensing the holy ground our church occupies. We are so blessed to own, free and clear, such a wonderful facility. This will be a terric day to see the new parking lot. In all of our lives there are special occasions that we want to do something special to honor a loved one in your family or a friend. There is no better way to express your love than with owers. Our amazing Bridget Muradian can dazzle you with the ower arrangement that you will adore. Your owers will beautify our lectern on Sunday morning and then they are yours to take home. Should you have any event to celebrate, we encourage you to consider speaking to Bridget and donating the owers for our Sunday Morning Service. In closing, again on behalf of the Board of Trustees, Rev. Kris, Rev. Carol, Rev. Greg and our marvelous group of Practitioners, we are so humble to our many friends and to our extraordinary church family. From the bottom of our hearts we thank you, we are so grateful to all of you, for all of your love and support that you continue to give us. With a joyful heart, Wilvesta Morgan

to become the third Senior Minister. We have done more beautication, maintaining and upgrading many parts of the church. Right after I came, Bridget and Murad Muradian donated the beautiful mural in the Sanctuary, creating a totally new feeling and beauty to our experience of services, prayer and celebration. In 1998, we installed new air conditioning in the Sanctuary for $26,000. In 2000, we did a $30,000 Church Beautification project that carpeted the Sanctuary, lobby and offices; purchased new sanctuary chairs, lectern and painted everything. We purchased a new Citrus Avenue sign in 2005 for $20,000. This is when we changed our name to Sanctuary for Spiritual Living. We remodeled our kitchen in 2007, expanding the space and completely rearranging everything, purchasing new equipment, cabinets, etc. for $70,000. Over the years we have also totally upgraded the sound systems in the Sanctuary and Harmony Hall (Thank you to Steve Bosserman for his expertise and work to give us the best systems possible). We have painted and repainted the offices, class room and Harmony Hall, purchase a big screen TV, upgraded computers, put in a security system and replaced one air conditioner of the three in Harmony Hall. All of these have been paid for in cash, continuing in the debt free consciousness established by our founding members. Now we are completing the Parking Areas Restoration project! The very first Board Meeting I attended at this church, we talked about this project. We had bids of $150,000 and were not in the place to even consider taking it on. I felt a bit like Scarlet in "Gone With The Wind," thinking "I will think about it tomorrow!" However, the

vision of the completed Parking Areas was established in Mind at that time. We had to grow in consciousness to know that we could save enough money to have what we deserve. Just like the kitchen we found the best "cluck for our buck" and the nal cost will come in at about $90,000. And we continue to be debt free!!!! A huge amount of thanks goes to James Kilgore who has coordinated the Parking Areas Restoration project! Also I want to acknowledge and thank every person who has ever given funds to the support of this project, we did it together! And a loving thank you to every board member I have served with on our Board of Trustees! Also, a deep thank you to our Practitioners, who daily pray for our church and the success of all of our endeavors. Each has been part of this vision that we share for a "Vibrant, Loving Community." The purpose in reviewing this is to simply teach our Spiritual Principles through example. We get a vision of the possible through our meditation and visioning processes. We support this vision with our prayers and commitment which bring us into action (saving money, getting bids in the case of the Parking Areas Restoration project whatever we are guided to in our individual lives). This action of Spirit (meditation, visioning and prayer), Mind (attitudes of commitment, releasing thoughts of smallness and knowing God in us/me can do it), and Body (actions towards the vision) creates in alignment with the original vision! At the conclusion, we are rewarded not only with the nished project, but with a greater understanding of how God works miracles in our lives. In short we are lled with inspiration and enthusiasm (to feel the very presence of God within us) and expanded in our spiritual understanding! Lets continue to celebrate! From my heart to yours, Rev. Kris

THE HEALING JOURNEY

Rev. Dr. Carol Bliss
It is an honor to facilitate the Healing Light service each Wednesday evening. The beauty of spiritual community coming together to practice the power of prayer is a wonderful gathering. As we enter into this sacred space, we leave behind the world of effects, of temporary issues passing through. We open our hearts and join together in the healing power of prayer. We remember that we are never alone. We are supported by people of faith, practitioners of truth, and healing circles all over the world. We recognize that healing has a proud tradition going back thousands of years, from shamans to Jesus, to mystics of the ages who were able to see from a higher perspective. We know that our bodys natural desire is to activate and sustain its own remarkable, internal healing system. We recognize that the body, the mind, and the spirit are intricately connected, designed to work in perfect synchronicity toward health, vitality, emotional harmony, and fully supported living. This beautiful journey offers an opportunity to deepen our spiritual practices, to learn about the nutrition that enhances our physical body, to discover the incredible world just beneath our own skin. The quest for healing ushers us into the awareness of the miracle of our own body. We meet the most amazing people along the way. We come away with a renewed appreciation for our lives. As we share our healing stories, we bless and inspire friends, family, and strangers, demonstrating the healing power inside every living being. See you Wednesday at 7 p.m.!

YOU ARE PURE CONSCIOUSNESS By Rev. Greg Dorst

Ernest Holmes, in the "New Thought Dictionary" defines Consciousness as God-perception: "Consciousness and God are identical. Consciousness means awareness; God is infinite awareness everywhere present in His entirety. The perception of existence.. Consciousness is the realization of the fact that we are." Yet, Holmes also declares that it is impossible to conceive of consciousness independent of an act of being conscious. Therefore, it is impossible to be conscious without being conscious of something. The problem that we often nd ourselves facing is that we identify with that which we are conscious of: I am a man or I am a woman; I am a minister or an electrician this is merely the ego attaching itself to a thought which has been reinforced and is very strong. I may from time to time say, "I am Greg", which is only a way of identifying myself in the innite stream of consciousness but not the truth of my being. I identify with whatever "Greg" means to "me"; male, CEO, Minister, husband, father, etc. This is what ego has dened in me as interesting; interesting enough to sometimes convince me of the "story" that has evolved around this physical form and has become "Greg". Now, all of this is probably necessary to survive in our society today but it is when any of us nd ourselves, through our egos, reaching out to condemn others to make ourselves "right" that we have developed an unhealthy attachment to what we have come to believe ourselves to be. It is then that we shall identify with our true nature, our God-Self or pure consciousness as our "Savior". Recognizing the truth will set us free. Our egos may at rst resist this. Practicing identication with "the truth of our being" will truly set us on course on this River of Love called Life.

VISIONS IN PROGRESS by Kellie Davis

Greetings from the Visions In Progress (VIP) service group!! Our focus is uplifting lives and community through service with a purpose!! We have such fun sharing a place where we are able to allow the Creative Process to come through us and joyously collaborate to bring about more Goodness and Expansion of the Divine! Our next great adventure will be in celebration of the Mexican Holiday, Cinco de Mayo. This will be on May 5th after service in Harmony Hall. Since we come from a philosophy of "inclusivity"- you dont have to be of Mexican descent to come and partake of the festivities, nor participate in them for that matter! And holy guacamole we sure do have some treats and surprises in store for you!!! In addition to fantastic fun, we also of course will have some amazing South of the Border cuisine for all to enjoy!! We are asking for a love offering of $10 per person to raise money for our beloved Sanctuary for Spiritual Living summer expenses. We all know how we appreciate the air conditioning during those really hot days, but we also know how that affects the bill-YIKES!!! So, come on out and bang on the piata and eat lots of great food and all for a great cause!!! If you would like to help us with this shindig or maybe you are considering a way to put your talents to good use in the near future, OR just want to be a part of something awesome then come and check out one of our meetings or see me or Jeffery Buckner for more information. With love & appreciation, Kellie Davis, President - VIP

Its All God In his book, Its All God, Walter Starcke has managed to take one of metaphysics greatest truths and put it into a form and ow of words, which is easy to grasp. Starcke has done a masterful job of clarifying the necessity of nding a realistic balance between living in the Absolute and the Relative world: Its not a matter of "one or the other," but rather, discovering the key to doing both at the same time. Treatment for June 2013 by Corinne Kemp, R.Sc.P.

June: the month of summer days, Fathers day and Flag day and God is in them all. Our Beloved Father/Mother God is all there is. In all. As all. Spirit is in everything that ever was, is or will be. I know that God is in every cell of my body, every emotion of my heart and every thought of my mind. This is true of every one of us. God loves us as if we were the only one. We each are Gods beloved daughters and sons. I speak my word for each one of us now. We are each surrounded and blessed with Love, Light, Peace and Abundance on each of these beautiful June days. We are truly happy joyous and free in mind, body and spirit. And I know the perfect life of God is truly my life and our life now. Divine Right Action is taking place in each life now. Divine right order is taking place in each life now. The Highest Good is taking place in each life now. I know this is the truth of each and every person reading this treatment, and so I release this treatment into the Law, easily and gently, knowing that the Law only says Yes, Yes, and Yes again. I am grateful, very thankful to know this truth for myself and every person reading this treatment. And so it is. Amen
