A Firm Foundation: Over the past year, the Session has explored ways to address the serious foundation issues in the Pre-K Wing of the church. After hearing presentations from two companies which address such building concerns the Session voted to accept a bid from FSI in the amount of $32,000. The work will begin on May 29. During this time the Pre-K classrooms will be emptied and the contents will be stored in Rooms 3 and 5. Additionally, the Session has approved a bid of $8,840 from Starling Guttering Inc., and guttering has been installed on the church to address some of the water diversion issues so that the foundation will not be further compromised. Other water diversion strategies are also planned. As we have done with other major projects in the past (e.g., the narthex and the kitchen), needed funds are borrowed from the churchs savings and we work to repay our savings through contributions designated for the Building Fund. Currently, we have $16,211.49 in the Building Fund. As you are able and feel led, please make contributions to the Building Fund.

Vacation Bible School is being held July 22-26, 2013 from 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. nightly. The theme this year is Kingdom Rock.

Presbyterian Disaster Assistance (PDA) will be responding with One Great Hour of Sharing funds and members of the National Response Team to a devastating tornado that struck Moore, a populous suburb of Oklahoma City, Okla. The 200 mph, F-4 tornado struck Monday evening and destroyed whole neighborhoods. Two elementary schools were in the tornado's path and one school sustained a direct hit. Five counties in Oklahoma have been declared federal disaster areas. The Oklahoma VOAD has reported that many unsolicited volunteers have been showing up. They have pleaded that the information get out that volunteers are not yet needed. First responders need first to complete their work. PDA previously responded to the 1999 tornado in Moore that caused $1 billion worth of damage, including extensive damage to the First Presbyterian Church in Moore. PDA will be working with Presbytery leadership to help meet the needs of families most impacted by this crisis. help You can stand in the GAP for disaster survivors, and help the church in its response: Give Share your financial blessings by designating gifts to DR000015 USA Disasters and Emergencies. Individuals may give through your local Presbyterian congregation, online, or by mailing a check to Presbyterian Church (USA), P.O. Box 643700 Pittsburgh, PA 152643700. Please note DR000015 Oklahoma on your gift. You can also text PDA to 20222 to donate $10 for disaster response; or call PresbyTel at (800) 872-3283 to give by credit card. (If you wish to contribute through Denbigh Presbyterian Church, please make your check to DPC and mark the memo line with DR00015 -- Oklahoma.) ACT Following disasters in the United States, there is a need for cleanup buckets for those returning home to begin the daunting task of cleaning up what the disaster left behind. Learn how to assemble a CWS Cleanup Bucket. Volunteers may be needed for future recovery efforts. You may email the PDA Call Center (pda.callcenter@pcusa.org) or call (866) 732-6121 to discuss your interest in serving. You will then be notified if/when the communities are requesting volunteers. Please keep in mind that volunteers at this time are not requested, while first responders are completing their work. Please keep them in your prayers. PRAY As part of the body of Christ, our first and best response is prayer. Please pray for those who survived the storm and will face hard days ahead, for those who mourn loved ones lost, and that the response of the church will be an example of the faithful love of God.

Summer Outreach to Children This year we are trying something new with our summer outreach to children. For the past six years we have served lunch and provided activities for children at Pauls Mobile Homes Estates on a daily basis throughout the summer. This year we are moving the ministry here to the church and expanding the program to include not only the children of Pauls but also the children of Faith Weaver Friends. What: Nutritious, kid-friendly lunch and enrichment activities in a Christian environment Whom: Children who have completed kindergarten through grade 8 Pre-school aged children if accompanied by responsible adult at all times When: Monday through Thursday, June 17 through August 29 Time: Noon to 1:30 p.m. Noon to 3 p.m. on days when field trips to Grissom Library or other sites are offered Volunteers are needed to: Assist in preparing and serving the lunch Provide enrichment activities for the children Spend time and build relationships with the children Provide transportation for children who need rides Sign up at the kitchen counter or call the church office at 877-2048 to volunteer. We have received a generous donation of $7,500 to help fund this ministry for the summer.

Our team departs on June 17 to serve in Haiti. Each team member pays $500 towards his/her expenses and personally pays for all needed shots/medications, passports and miscellaneous needs. The team collectively raises funds for the remainder of the expenses. Thank you for the ways you have supported the fundraisers and for the opportunities youve provided team members to work and earn money at your homes. Although we are close to meeting our fundraising goal, contributions are still needed. If you feel led to contribute, please designate your gift to the Haiti Mission Team. (Contributions help cover all plane tickets, including in-country flights; luggage costs on flights; lodging/food; ground travel expenses in Haiti; and work equipment we take with us as requested by Bruce Robinson.) This years team members are: Sandi Murawski, Dawn Moss, Mason Murawski, Lamar Saunders, Megan Spivey, Jamie Spivey, Deborah Dail, Justin Marshall, Patti Hall and Sandra Beebe. Please keep the team in prayer.

The Gardens at Warwick Forest

On a regular schedule, Denbigh Presbyterian Church conducts a service at The Gardens at Warwick Forest. On July 29 Deborah Dail will conduct the service. This is a multi-center facility for those who are in nursing care, rehabilitation, and hospice. The worship service lasts for approximately thirty minutes and includes all the elements enjoyed during our Sunday Services. We need volunteers to sing, read, or just visit with those who attend. It is a blessing to all and a great opportunity to reach out to those who cannot normally attend Christian services. For more information or if you would like to help, please contact Rusty Norton (cell 757-814-1091 or email rustynorton@denbighpres.org). Blessings to all, Rusty

INTRODUCTION INTO SMALL GROUPS

The Small Groups Team is moving forward on implementing Small Groups for the fall. With the potential merger with Second Presbyterian Church as well as the number of new members and those who have been with the church for some time, we believe Small Groups will help us get to know one another on a more spiritual and personal level. Deborah will be introducing this topic in her June 9th sermon and sign-ups will begin this summer.

What Are Small Groups

30 45 minutes of Bible Study. 20 30 minutes of connecting with and praying for each other. We would like to have the Small Groups happen at different homes. If you are interested in hosting, please note your willingness on the sign-up sheet. Please give any thoughts or feedback to the church, addressed to the Small Groups Team. Thank You, The Small Groups Team
