CITY CELEBRATION

missed some fun.
It was tragic that the
LightHouse Harbor Church
had a fire just a week before
this event. But members of the
Fire Department and Alderman
McWhorter went into action
and collected donations to
replace those lost in the fire.
Plus some.
The parade through the city
was the best. It was great to see
so many residents take pride in
their cify; local officials rode
along, and officers from our
neighboring cities attend.
The jets that flew over were
compliments of Fire Chief Paul
Stetzel, along with the Care
FXightcrew that landed.
Azle Mayor Linda Arrington
read a proclamation and
Marcia Elite, addressed a letter
fnom Congresswoman Kay
Granger's office.
Several of the cities finest were
"jailed" and donations had to
be raised to get them out .Some
even braved the dunking booth.
Good food was sold at very
reasonable prices.
Mike Lowery was named
"Employee of the Year", Wayne
tsox, "Volunteer of the Year",
and Renee' Mcllhorter,'oCilizen
qf the Yeatr." Congrats to you all.
Nloney raised goes towards a
park/playground for our kids.
Thanks to all who donated.

The program is open to
residents of the Bay, with
children under the age of 16,
who will need assistance for the
holidays.
Applications will be accepted
November 17 until December 8,

accepted. Proof of residence

pets with NTACA. Forms can
be picked up at city hall and

CITY BUSINESS
Council meets Tuesday night.
Citizen's concerns were the lack
ofpolice responseto a call from
an elderly resident.
Wal-Mart was awarded the
privilege of naming the city's
playground.
An agenda item to accept bids
for towing service was tablcd
until a special meeting can be
held. Government law requires
the cify to advertise and accept
sealed bids to ensure the city is
getting the best deal for
contract services.
Police Department issued 268
citations, 18 misdemeanor & 9
felony charges. The accident
with the new police car is still
under investigation and Chief
Frankum believes the car will
be totaled. Officer Shelby only
received minor injuries.
Officer Towns resigned and he
was the only one who was
conducting the investigation
into the former anirnal control
officer. Jason Jarvis was
terminated as reserve officer.
Anita Bledsoe was approved as
a reserve officer and David
Sheflield was approved as 3'd
paid officer for the city.

Chief Stetzel presented council
with the Standard Operating
Guidelines for approval. lt
passed,4-for & L opposed. (For
the record, only one member of
council read the manual, yet it
was passed.)
Chief Stetzel will enter into
negotiations with Reno and
Azle Fire Departments to
update mutual agreements.
The department responded to
36 calls during October. The
Haunted llouse was a success,
raising over $740.00.
The Explorens Post 34 has 6
members and looking for many
more to join.
Chief Stetzel applied for L
grant with the Texas Forest
Seruice and it was approved to
repay the department for
training expenses. This is the
first of many grants Stetzel will
be applying for.
Council removed Robert
Nortrnan, Anthony Hunter and
James Cullen from the fire
department roll. Accepted for
E.S.S. was Ashley Don Frince,
Sandra Negron and new fire
fighter Pam Lem.
Membens of the department
along with volunteers will be
doing repairs to the fire house
office. Those wishing to help
should be at the fire house this
Saturday.
It is a good feeling to see this
department grow and improve
under Chief Stetzel's direction.
Fring your children to city
hall on December 17 from 1:00
to 3:00 to meet Santa and enjoy
milk & cookies.
NOTE from the EDITOR
I am sure by now; you rnay
have read about my resignation
from council seat # 3. I am sorry
that I had to take this step, but
the consent battle to ensure that
actions by council, the mayor
and departments were within the
Iegal definitions of the law, was
becoming overwhelming. I feel
that this council has not stepped
up to do the job for which they
were elected or to ensure that
laws, procedures, and the rights
of the citi:zens were followed.
This council only attends x
monthly meeting and they are
unprepared for the actions to be
voted upon. They only come to
city hall when a meeting is
scheduled. It is in my opinion
that they do not have a clue as to
what is going on in their own
city. I was not appointed as
Mayor Pro Tem, yet I had to
step in to do what was required
by this position to keep the cify
running and on traclc And
where was the mayor pro tem??
I objected many times to the
salaries for the police
department, the strain it would
place on the cify and I felt the
citizens would be the ones who
would suffer the most. And they
are. People are being pulled over
for the smallest infractions. Yes.
they may be against the lawo but
before the impound and salary
increases, most would have only
received a warning unless there
were other violations.
Department spending is getting
out of hand, and without council
approval. So who is running this
citv??
It surely is not council or a mayor.
I have fought hard and long to try
and protect the residents of
Pelican Bay and instead of coming
to meetings or filing complaints,
you chooseto air your problems in
a local business, where I would
hear second hand how each was
treated. I truly believe that each
resident is fed up with the actions
from council and departments. But
you are the ones who can change
things with written complaints to
DPS @epartment of Public
Safety), District Attorney's Office,
Congresswoman Kay Cranger's
Office. and so forth. There are
agencies that will consider your
complaints and if needed, issue an
investigation.
And stop and consider who is
rurning for office when elections
happen. FYI*a former mayor has
turned in a request to be
appointed to fill a vacant seat on
council. This could be the same
person who allowed corruption tcr
exist under his command, the city's
finances were a shame and bills
were not paid and as we
remembero animals were being
stolen from residents while this
penson was in office. So be very
careful who you vote for or allow
to be placed on council. It will
affect you in the long run.
Maybe you should do as Reno
residents are trying, and disband
the City Of Pelican Bay and return
under the county?? You would be
a community and not a city, with
all the headachesthat exist.
This will be my last newsletter as
I am now going to prepare to move
out of the Bay.
