Kirsty Fruin: OUGD303 Brief 1 LCA Fashion Yearbook (1/3)

Leeds College of Art BA (Hons) Fashion opted for Option 1 to have a printed yearbook and PDF version. However, after numerous meetings and missed deadlines (by the fashion students and staff) the deliverables were dropped down to Option 2 which consisted of a pull-out poster and PDF yearbook. The poster would be taken down to London Fashion Graduate week and dispersed as part of Leeds College of Art, therefore needed to follow the college brand guidelines. A poster was designed to fit the tutors requirements; exhibit each students work in a tiled format, with the students contact information accessible through an alphabetical coding system. The poster is 420 x 840 mm to fold down to 210 x 210 mm, the same size as a printed yearbook. After showing the fashion tutors our initial designs, they decided they wanted to represent each student equally, so asked us to give each student and equal space on the poster as well as designing the poster in a landscape format. I contacted Heaton Press printers to get a quote for the poster and talked to them about possible stock choices to ensure the poster could fold down effectively. It was decided that we would print the poster on a 70gsm white stock. After countless variations produced for the Fashion staff team, the changes they wanted to make were unrealistic at such short notice it was not possible to send it to print so the poster design was dropped. All of the above designs are my own.

Alongside the fashion poster, we began to design the PDF yearbook which would be accessed through the Leeds College of Art website. To make the task manageable, we split down the BA (Hons) Fashion register and allocated an equal amount of students to each of us in the group. Each student was allocated a double page spread. The design aesthetic purposely remains minimal; containing only the students contact details and a maximum of three images, the focus is on the work. Despite having produced initial spreads for the PDF yearbook, it was decided that this would also be dropped. Again, all of the above designs are my own.
