Warkseemsprettyboldinmakingtheclaimthatthereisnolongeracapitalistclassbuta vectoralistclassthathasdivest[ed]itselfofitsproductivecapacitycontractingouttheactual materiallaborofcapitalismelsewhere(142).WhileWarksemphasisontheprivatizationof informationseemsanaccurateassessmentofmodernpoliticaleconomy,itremainsunclearto mewhatmakesinformationasvectordifferentthansimplyinformationascommodity.AsfarasI cantell,Warkdoesntwanttoconsiderinformationmerelyasanothercommoditybecausehe alsoviewsitastheonedomaininwhichwecouldrealizeacertainutopianpromiseby escapingfrommaterialscarcity(146). Warkrevealshisintentionatacertainpoint:itseemstomethatWarkislessconcerned withdevelopingausefulframeworkforevaluationinformationcapitalism,butratherindeveloping hisownbrandofcriticaltheorythatresistsbecomingmerelyhypotheticaltheoryandhasto engagewithitsownmeansofproductionanddistribution(148).WhileIamsympatheticto Warksdesiretoexaminethefoundationsofcriticaltheory,Iremainunconvincedwhatthe specificbenefitofunderstandingtheworldasvectorsis.Warkseemstometoprivilegetoo muchtheimportanceofinformationwhileforgettingthatthematerialbaseofeconomystill existsattimes,heseemsconsciousoftherealeconomicworkgoingonsomewhereelse, whileatothertimesitseemsastherealmovementofgoodsandcommoditiesisentirely secondaryinthefaceofthevectorialistclass.
