Research,
New
Delhi
is
an
institute
of
excellence
for
higher
education
in
Agricultural
and
allied
subjects.
The
TNAU
had
begun
as
an
Agricultural
School
at
Saidapet
in
Chennai
in
1876
and
proliferated
as
a
College
in
Coimbatore,
during
1906.
In
1920,
the
college
was
affiliated
to
the
University
of
Madras
with
the
introduction
of
a
three-year
degree
program.
Till
1946,
the
Agricultural
College
and
Research
Institute,
Coimbatore
was
the
only
institute
for
agricultural
education
for
the
whole
of
South
India.
In
1958,
it
was
recognized
as
a
Postgraduate
Centre
offering
Masters
and
Doctoral
degrees.
The
Agricultural
College
and
Research
Institute,
Madurai
was
established
in
1965.
These
two
colleges
formed
the
nucleus
of
the
Tamil
Nadu
Agricultural
University,
when
it
was
established
in
1971
offering
four
year
B.
Sc.
(Agri.)
degree
program.
In
the
year
1972,
the
degree
programs
B.
Sc.
(Horticulture)
and
B.
E.
(Agriculture)
were
started.
In
furtherance,
in
1979,
the
faculty
of
Horticulture
was
established.
To
nurture
the
home
grown
innovations,
in
1980,
B.
Sc.
(Home
Science)
was
started
at
Madurai
campus.
The
third
Agricultural
College
was
started
at
Killikulam
in
1984
and
the
fourth
at
Navalur
Kuttappattu,
Tiruchirappalli
in
1989.
B.
Sc.
(Forestry)
program
was
started
during
1985.
B.
Sc.
(Horticulture)
and
B.
Tech.
(Agricultural
Engineering)
degree
programs
are
being
offered
at
Horticultural
College
and
Research
Institute,
Periyakulam
and
Agricultural
Engineering
College
and
Research
Institute,
Kumulur,
respectively.

new
Horticultural
College
and
Research
Institute
for
Women
at
Navalur
Kuttappattu,
Tiruchirappalli,
offering

established
during
2011.
The
Forest
College
and
Research
Institute
at
Mettupalayam
is
offering

the
backdrop
of

agricultural
situation

developments

science

technology,
TNAU

Owing
to
the
developments
in
agricultural
and
information
sciences
and
to
capitalize
on
these
potentialities,

were
started
during
2007- 2008.

A student of Tamil Nadu Agricultural University who discontinues a course in the undergraduate program is not eligible for admission again to any undergraduate program of this University.

The reservation categories are mutually exclusive and a candidate can opt for only one reservation category though the candidate may be eligible under more than one category. The reservation will be followed as per the orders of the Government of Tamil Nadu in vogue at the time of admission. A. B. Special Reservations Certain number of seats is also reserved for the following categories, as prescribed by the Government of Tamil Nadu G.O. Ms. No. 167 dt. 25.4.2008. A separate certificate with necessary details issued by the competent authority concerned has to be attached along with application for claiming each of these reservations. Since the special reservation applications require processing by separate committees, candidates are instructed to enclose separate special reservation form along with the main application. They should also enclose a DD for Rs. 100/- for each special reservation along with appropriate certificates. If appropriate certificates or supporting documents for special reservation claim are not enclosed with the Special Reservation Form, their claim under such categories will not be considered. Differenly Abled (attach separate special reservation application and proof)- (Appendix V) Three percent of the seats in the B. Sc. (Agriculture) degree program are reserved for differently abled candidates. (1% - ENT; 1% - Ortho and 1% Visually impaired). The applicant should fulfill all qualifying requirements and maximum age limit is relaxble to 26 years. Candidates seeking admission against this reservation set apart for orthopaedically Differently Abled Persons / Hearing impaired / Visually Impaired should produce the certificate from the Medical Board of the District concerned certifying the nature and extent of disability in percentage and with regard to his/her suitability for admission to Professional Colleges specifically mentioned. Certificates obtained from an individual Doctor will not be considered. Further, a separate TNAU Medical Team will examine the candidates with reference to their certificates before counselling. Four seats in B. Sc. (Ag.) and one seat in B. Sc. (Hort.) are reserved under sports quota for eminent sports persons. (Lr.No.20658/AU/2001-1 dt.12.6.2001 of the Deputy Secretary to Government, Agriculture (AU), Department Government of Tamil Nadu). The applicant should fulfill all qualifying requirements and attach the proof of evidence along with the application and with copies of the certificate issued by the Sport Development Authority of Tamil Nadu. Certificates obtained at National / State / District / Division level alone will be considered on the order of merit and hence copies of all relevant certificates should be attached. Candidate should also enclose a list of certificates attached singned by candidate and parent. Candidates seeking admission against the special reservation of seats under Eminent Sports Person should submit the main printed online application, the special reservation form for Sports and a Demand draft for `Rs.100/- and copies of the relevant certificates in person to the Dean & Chairman Admissions as per Appendix VI. C. Fifteen percent seats are reserved for candidates selected by Indian Council of Agricultural Research, New Delhi through the National Level Entrance Examination for B. Sc. (Agriculture), B. Sc. (Horticulture), B. Sc. (Forestry), B. Sc. (Home Science) and B. Tech. (Agricultural Engineering).
D. INDUSTRY SPONSORSHIP / NON RESIDENT INDIAN (NRI) QUOTA Five Seats each in the undergraduate programs are allotted for the Industry sposorship and Non-Resident Indian quota on merit basis. A separate Application (Appendix II) for this quota along with DD for Rs.100/- should be enclosed with the Main Application. a.Industry Sponsorship A member of the Agribusiness Consortium of TNAU can nominate only one candidate for admission to Undergrdauate Program. The candidates should have minimum educational qualification prescribed for the course as in section i- a, c,d and e. Candidates from all over India are eligible to apply. ELIGIBILITY Upper age limit : 21 years Minmum Marks in the qualifying Exam in subjects as per section I-a : Open ompetition (OC) 55% agregate of all the four subjects Backward Class (BC) and 50% aggregate of all the four subjects Backward Class Muslim (BCM) Most Backward Class and 45% aggregate of all the four subjects Denotified Communities (MBC) Scheduled Caste (SC/SCA/ST) A pass in qualifying examination Any industry related to agriculture can sponsor one candidate by becoming a member of Agri Business Consortium (ABC) of Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore-3. VI.
RAGGING

VIII. SCHOLARSHIPS Fee concessions and scholarships such as Adi Dravida welfare scholarships, Central Government scholarships, State Government free education for student from non-graduate family, Periyar Endowment scholarships and fellowships and scholarships from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research, New Delhi and other agencies are available for the benefit of deserving enrolled candidates. These may vary according to the degree / college to which candidates are admitted and respective funding agencies. IX FACILITIES Separate hostels for men and women are available in each campus with WiFi Internet connectivity. Students run messes on a dividing system basis. All students are expected to reside in the hostel attached to the respective colleges. In exceptional cases, the Dean is empowered to permit students to be day scholars. A Students Centre with canteen is available in each campus to provide stationeries and essential items. Infrastructure facilities exist in all colleges for extra-curricular activities. Library and sports facilities are available in all campuses. X. Reporting to Admitted Colleges Newly admitted students should report to the allotted college selected by them at counseling as per the date and time of registration of courses given in the college commencement letter, failing which their admission will be cancelled. No exemption or permission will be entertained in this regard.
XI. INSTRUCTIONS TO CANDIDATES Completed online application form should be printed, signed and attached with necessary enclosures and should reach the Dean (Agriculture), Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore 641 003, before 5.00 PM on the date prescribed in the published notification and online application website. Candidates should read the Information Brochure carefully and completely before filling the online application form. All columns should be correctly and completely filled-in. Enclosures should be complete in all respects. Printed online application received after the prescribed date and time will not be considered on any account. The University will not take any responsibility for postal delays. The candidates are advised to post their applications well in advance without waiting till the last date. The candidates should ensure that correct marks and community category are furnished in the application. The candidates are informed that after scrutiny, if any information is found to be incorrect, then, I. They will forfeit the admission no matter at what stage of the course the student will be at that time II. They will be debarred from pursuing any course of study for a period of three years and III. XIII. DISPUTE REDRESSAL With regard to the interpretation of the provisions of any matter not covered in this information brochure, the decision of the University shall be final and binding on all the parties concerned. Any complaints, grievances etc., related to UG admissions and academic matters must be first referred to the Dean, Agricultural College and Research Institute, Coimbatore who will be the appellate authority with respect to such complaints /disputes. The Courts having their jurisdiction at Coimbatore alone can adjudicate on all matters and disputes related to U.G. admissions and academic matters.

SPECIAL RESERVATION FOR EMINENT SPORTS PERSONS Selection Procedure Four seats in B. Sc. (Ag.) and one seat in B. Sc. (Hort.) are reserved under sports quota for eminent sports persons. (Lr.No.20658/AU/2001-1 dt.12.6.2001 of the Deputy Secretary to Government, Agriculture (AU), Department Government of Tamil Nadu). The applicant should fulfill all qualifying requirements and attach the proof of evidence along with the application and with copies of the certificate issued by the Sport Development Authority of Tamil Nadu. Certificates obtained at National / State / District / Division level alone will be considered on the order of merit and hence copies of all relevant certificates should be attached. Candidate should also enclose a list of certificates attached singned by candidate and parent. The purpose of this quota is to recognize the sports eminence of the candidates and hence marks for sports achievements alone will be considered in ranking the candidates. The candidates are expected to continue good performance in sports, after admission to Tamil Nadu Agricultural University. Candidates seeking admission against the special reservation of seats under Eminent Sports Person should submit the main printed online application, the special reservation form for Sports and a Demand draft for `Rs.100/- and copies of the relevant certificates in person to the Dean & Chairman Admissions. 1. The highest achievement of the candidate in only one annual tournament in the sports disciplines in a year will be considered for awarding marks. 2. Category I : Olympics, World Cup / Commonwealth Games, Asian games (Games organized in 4 years frequency) Category II: All other International tournaments not covered under category I and wherein, not less than six countries had participated and events approved by Indian Olympics Association (IOA) and cleared by Sports Authority of India (SAI), Government of India. 1. Participation / Achievement in International tournaments will be considered only with earlier achievements at National / State level tournaments. 2. Only tournaments officially recognized by the Indian Olympic Association / respective official National Federations will be considered for the award of marks (for each year) (1.6.2009 to 31.5.2010, 1.6.2010 to 31.5.2.2011, 1.6.2011 to 31.5.2012 and 1.6.2012 to 31.5.2013) 3. Participation / Achievements in tournaments, with Form I alone are eligible for marks indicated in Table (I) above.
(b) For National Tournaments 1. The highest achievement in only one annual tournament, officially recognized as the regular annual championship / tournament by Indian Olympic Association / SDAT / SAI / respective official National Federation will be considered (for each year) for the award of marks. 2. Marks will not be awarded for selection trials. (c) For State Tournaments 1. The highest achievement in only one annual tournament, officially recognized as the regular annual championship /tournament by SDAT / SAI / respective official State Association will be considered (for each year) for the award of marks. 5. General Conditions 1. For consideration of candidates seeking admission under the category of eminent sports person, he /she should enclose attested photocopies of participation certificates and the forms issued by the relevant sports authorities, along with the application. 2. Participation / achievements from 01.06.2009 to 31.05.2013 (1.6.2009 to 31.5.2010, 1.6.2010 to 31.5.2011, 1.6.2011 to 31.5.2012 and 1.6.2012 to 31.5.2013) in sports / games shown in the list alone will be taken into account. National / State Level Championships / Tournaments conducted by organizations recognized by Indian Olympic Association / Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu (SDAT) / Tamilnadu Olympic Association (TNOA) alone will be considered for award of marks. (Recognition should be relevant to the year concerned). 3. The relevant attested copies of certificates issued by the appropriate authorities as detailed below are to be submitted along with the application. Open / Invitational tournaments of any kind will not be considered. 5. For Tennis, the achievements of top three players by his/her position in the ranking list published by AITA/TNTA based on the ranking rules and the final rankings of previous four years, will be awarded marks for achievements & participation (necessary forms from the associations are to be enclosed). 6. For Cricket, the annual official championship tournaments conducted within the country under the auspices of TNCA / BCCI at District / State / National Level alone will be taken into consideration for that year. 7. Participation / achievements of candidates with nativity in Tamilnadu who represented Tamilnadu alone are eligible for marks under National Category. 8. Only Tamilnadu candidates are eligible to apply for admission under Sports Quota and only the candidates who have studied KVS / CBSE schools within Tamilnadu will be eligible for marks. 9. A Common Committee for Engineering and Medicine constituted for this purpose will rank the candidates based on the marks assigned to the certificates enclosed along with the application. 10. All the achievement certificates are to be supported necessarily by the relevant participation certificates and appropriate Forms. 11. No further enclosures or certificates under any circumstances will be entertained after the last date for submission of completed application. 12. If any candidate fails to produce the requisite Original Certificates / Forms, his / her place will be allotted to the candidate next in rank. Allotment of degree and campus will be based on the ranking within this quota.
