Gorgeous Geek Chapter XLIX: Precious Friend

Chapter XLIX: Precious Friend

What happen between you and Jordan Greene exactly? In her usual spot in the morning, Roselle lifted her eyes to meet the three Asian Gossip Girls surrounding her. She was busy typing on her laptop by herself when she was confronted by these girls. Tiffany had her right hand on her hip. Jennifer was frowning and hugging her purse to her. Eunice was bouncing in anticipation. We broke up, said Roselle in a solemn tone. He dumped me. Do you need to know anything else? You're not telling us the whole story, said Jennifer accusingly. Exactly, said Tiffany, giving Roselle a suspicious look. There's more to it isn't there? What is it? Roselle frowned. I told you everything. Why would I be hiding something? Because, said Tiffany, checking her cell phone. The charm hit the side of her hand. It's five minutes until the start of school and there's no sign of him anywhere. Jennifer wanted to talk to him about something but he's not seen anywhere in his usual places. I don't know! cried Roselle, standing up boldly now. Maybe he's late to school! Maybe... said Eunice, tugging onto her hair. Roselle scowled. You girls are really annoying! First, you get all the scoop on Jin as soon as possible! Now, since Jin hasn't done anything in a while, you're back to Jordan! Can't you leave those two boys alone? What do you know about us? asked Tiffany, offended. Whatever, said Roselle, annoyed. She's not telling, said Tiffany, nodding to the other two. We'll figure it out ourselves... through all his closest friends if possible. After they left, Roselle released a sigh of relief. She began to type a paragraph on her laptop when a shadow loomed over her. At first, Roselle thought it was Jordan so she was about to tell him how they shouldn't hang out together anymore when she noticed black, spiky hair. It was none other than her best friend Grim. What's going on between you and Jordan? asked Grim in a serious tone. Why you too? asked Roselle, mad. Grim adjusted his glasses. I'm not under the Asian Gossip Girl code. I can blog whatever I like. I won't tell anyone. We're best friends aren't we? You won't tell anyone? asked Roselle, uncertain. You never tell another best friend's secret. Thanks to his words, Roselle seriously considered this for a moment before she went on, Jordan and I broke up yesterday. I was waiting for him all

night. Roselle frowned to herself. But he never came. He chickened out on me. I don't understand, said Grim. There needs to be a context, Roselle. Slowly, Roselle shut off her laptop and placed it in its respective case. With a miserable look on her face, Roselle stood up and faced Grim. She went up to him and wrapped her arms around his sides. Stunned, Grim returned the embrace, uncertain what to say or do now. It is better if I don't date Jordan, said Roselle in a soft tone so only Grim could hear her at this proximity. I'm a bother to him and he's a bother to me. We are both burdens to each other. We're together out of benefit but that's not happening anymore. Besides, I'm starting to like Jordan now... You didn't like him before? Not this way, said Roselle honestly. I told myself not to but I ended up liking him anyways. When I realized this, I knew it was time for us to go our separate ways. Grim nodded in understanding even though he didn't get it at all. I feel miserable because I know deep in my heart that he cannot like me back. It's better not to drag it out. If you like him, said Grim under his breath. You should try to win him over. That's impossible for the current me, said Roselle, shaking her head and releasing Grim. I don't want to be involved with anyone seriously right now. I want to make a career out of my writing first. I want to do for Grandma. Then, maybe, Roselle smiled to herself. Maybe I can think about my personal life. You matured Roselle, said Grim gently. Roselle widened her eyes. You think so? I know so. If Club President says so, it must be so, said Roselle with a confident look on her face. I'm okay really. I can't believe I'm so stupid yesterday. Roselle clasped her hands together on top of her lap and lowered her eyes to her hands. Because Jordan needed me, I wanted to be there for him one last time. I thought that as long as I like him, it should be fine if we have sex for our first time. Grim gawked at her. But you two haven't been dating very long... We've known each other long enough for that. Roselle... said Grim, a bit surprised at her. I'm foolish aren't I? asked Roselle, starting to tear up. I can't handle dating him anymore when his heart is somewhere else but I'm willing to give up my youth for him. Roselle started laughing miserably. You know those girls who get themselves pregnant in high school in movies or books? I used to make fun of them, laugh at them. Roselle wiped her tears away. I am starting to understand how they feel now. We're all just foolish girls. I don't think you're foolish, said Grim suddenly. You're just saying that to make me feel better. Grim shook his head. You are the first person to tell me that you don't learn a lot about a person from their statistics, but from who they are as a

person. I did say that didn't I? If a high school student can be wiser than those universities who only seek out students based on statistics can say something that meaningful, said Grim slowly. I believe that person is anything but foolish. Thank you, said Roselle in a cracked voice. Thank you Club President. No, thank you, said Grim, looking off in the distance now. You taught me this. Taught you what? When you like someone, decisions you make aren't necessary good or bad, said Grim, turning his head and smiling smoothly at Roselle. There are no right or wrong answers. You staying or leaving Jordan included. Then, what are these decisions then? asked Roselle curiously. If they are not right or wrong, what can they be considered as? Grim thought about it. Just decisions. Just decisions? Yes, just decisions, said Grim, holding his hands behind his back. There is no right way or wrong way of loving someone. Logic plays no role in love. If so, Grim tossed Roselle a gentle look. I would have won a long time ago. Club President... said Roselle, stunned. The bell's about to ring, said Grim, walking past Roselle. I didn't do it, said Roselle once Grim stopped near the stairs. I didn't do it with Jordan last night. I was ready too but he wasn't ready. He left me waiting all night. I cried myself to sleep. I knew I shouldn't have told him such awful words during sixth period. Roselle ran up to Grim with tears in her eyes. Are you telling me that wasn't wrong of me either? That it was just a decision? Unmoving, Grim asked, Did you come to that decision out of love or out of your own desire to keep him for yourself? Your last chance to win him back? What if both is true? asked Roselle under her breath. Then... said Grim, going down the stairs. I lost again. Confused, Roselle chased after Grim. Club President! What did you mean by that? Grim didn't respond and kept going. Club President! Tell me! Grumpily, Roselle continued. Club President! Come on now! From the first day Roselle began dating Jordan, Grim had imagined the day they would break up. He also imagined himself being very happy at the news. Contrary to what he imagined, he didn't feel so great now. It must have been Roselle's crying face. What a powerful tool. In addition, Roselle breaking up Jordan made their relationship stronger ironically. What should Grim do now? ****************************************** Kristian Shiratori, it's you again. Kristian smirked. What's up, Mr. S? These past two days you've been awfully quiet, said Mr. Sanchez

suspiciously, narrowing his eyes at Kristian. He was walking around the room to collect homework. But I knew you'll be back to your old self. Why thank you, Mr. S, said Kristian, throwing his legs on top of the table. Answer me this, Mr. Smart Mouth, said Mr. Sanchez, indicating at Kristian's large black sunglasses that were covering his eyes. What is the genius behind wearing sunglasses indoors? It's not that sunny in here the last time I checked. Can't you see the light radiating from this young lady right here? asked Kristian, throwing a thumb at Rin next to him. Rin flushed red and kicked him under the table. My sunglasses are a necessity to be able to learn your valuable lessons, Mr. S! Is there a school rule banning sunglasses in the classroom now? Mr. Sanchez grumbled something under his breath about Kristian being the worst student he had in his entire teaching career. However, he ignored Kristian and proceeded to pick up the homework around him instead. When he laid his eyes on Rin's perfect homework, he gave her one long look. Rin Hamada. Rin nearly jumped. Yes Mr. Sanchez? Don't fall for boys like him, said Mr. Sanchez, tossing Kristian a stern look. Rin flushed at the advice. They have a laundry list of pick-up lines to trick nice girls like yourself if you're not careful. How insulting, said Kristian, sticking out his bottom lip. No laundry list can fit all the best of Kristian. Mr. Sanchez knew it was a lost case with Kristian so instead, he noticed the empty seat across from Rin. Where is Jordan Greene? Probably ditching, said Kristian, licking his lips. He has a Calculus test today so he better be in school, said Rin through gritted teeth after Mr. Sanchez moved on to collect more homework assignments. How do you know he has a Calculus test today? asked Kristian, suspicious. Rin thought of a response quickly and answered, I know things too! My friends are not so limited Kristian! Oh right, said Kristian, licking his lips playfully. Jin and Bo are both in that class. Not them, said Rin, annoyed. I already told you! I have more friends than you assume I do! Yeah, I know. Jin and Bo. Rin glared. I hate you. I'm going to assume you didn't hear about Jordan and Roselle breaking up? asked Kristian, placing his head down on top of his clasped hands on his desk. Rin shook her head immediately with a stunned look on her face. Typical Rin-chan. You only pay attention to unimportant things like a math test. That's unimportant? Kristian waved it off. There goes the Populars and Killers' alliance.

Scowling, Rin muttered, Is that all you care about? Why do you care? asked Kristian, surprised by Rin's tone. You hate Jordan. You never approved of Roselle going out with Jordan in the first place. Shouldn't you be happy they break up? Of course, when Rin heard about the news, she immediately thought of Jordan crying at her doorstep yesterday. In all the years Rin had known Jordan, she had never seen him so vulnerable before. In school, he was always laughing with his friends or sleeping in class. Rin had always assumed he was a popular and superficial boy who had so many parties to attend to every day outside of school. However, the sight of a depressed Jordan made her remember what Bo told her earlier that same day. After Jin met Jordan, he moved on from his idealistic and carefree world to this new one. This world where once he entered, he could not return to. When Bo told her all this, she could not warp her mind around it at first. Yet, when she laid eyes on the hard evidence before her, she felt like something inside her change. Did she enter that world too? Of course I care, said Rin softly. It's sad. If Rin were to hear news like this before now, she usually shrugged it off. To her, it would be simply another Jordan Greene break up, like all those other times. Why should she concern herself with his love life? But when she met the victim of the rumor face to face, she couldn't ignore it. Not anymore. Oh, I get it, said Kristian, smiling. You feel for Roselle don't you? I call her this morning and she is perfectly fine. No worries Rin-chan. Jordan's probably ditching because he doesn't want to take that Calculus test. Disagreeing with Kristian inwardly, Rin thought about how hard Jordan studied last night for that test even though he was sad over something that she could only assume to be the break-up now. The timing was too perfect. Why wasn't he at school though? Rin glanced back to see that Jin didn't look very happy either. Well, said Rin, pouting. That's a stupid reason to ditch. There are no stupid reasons to ditch, said Kristian, shaking his head in shame at Rin. Every reason is a good reason to ditch. Says you. Says everyone who isn't a nerd. Rin leaned toward Kristian. Why am I dating you again? Lifting his sunglasses up with a finger, Kristian used his other hand to poke Rin in the cheek. Because I have the best laundry list in the world. Stupid Kristian, said Rin, scowling. Kristian winked and placed his sunglasses back in place. I love being myself without getting into detention. Life is good. Rin glanced at the empty chair. Life's not so good for some people... Once the bell for first period rang, a lot of the students crowded around Kristian to ask him whether he was going to start wearing sunglasses in all his classes from now on. In all this mess, Rin managed to slip from the crowds and noticed Jin and Jezebelle leaving the room together. Waving at Kristian once,

Rin went after them. She's acting strange today, said Kristian to himself after Rin left. Jin! cried Rin after Jin. Jezebelle and Jin stopped in their tracks and faced her. We need to talk! Rin-chan, isn't your class the opposite direction? asked Jin carefully. It's quick, said Rin, stopping in front of him and Jezebelle. Noticing Jezebelle's annoyed look, Rin greeted, Hey bitch. Shortie, said Jezebelle in return. You guys hate each other again? asked Jin, disappointed. It's a love and hate relationship, said Rin and Jezebelle in unison. Jin scratched his head. Okay. What is it you want to tell me, Rin-chan? Today is Wilson High's first football game of the year, said Rin with a fierce look on her face. Jin nodded. Have you forgotten our promise already? Forgotten what? Rin scowled. We promised that we'll be there to watch Bo's first Varsity football game together last year! Oh right, said Jin, gaping. This is the first year Bo's on Varsity! We're supposed to watch his first home game together! Now you remember! However, Jin became sad at the thought. But... Jin glanced at Jezebelle, who pretended she wasn't here at all. When does the Varsity football game start? Seven, said Rin, hardening her eyes at Jin. Jin Song backing out of a promise? I'll... said Jin, glancing at Jezebelle again. I'll get back to you on that. Hurrying down the hall together with Jezebelle, Jin dared not to look back at Rin. He felt guilty. Even though he was no longer part of JinRinBo, he indeed promised to cheer Bo on with Rin for his first Varsity football game. Sure, it was nearly impossible for Bo to spot either of them in the crowds but a promise was a promise. The biggest problem was the disappearance of a certain someone. You kept looking at me, said Jezebelle, grouchy. Why? I don't know, said Jin, scratching the back of his head. You make it look like I'm the reason you're not going to watch the football game. Jin lowered his head. Sorry... As a football fan, said Jezebelle, flinging her hair back. She didn't straighten it today unlike yesterday so it was naturally wavy again. I'm going to dress up in our school's colors to the football game today! Wilson High better not suck. Our football team is actually pretty good, said Jin proudly. Actually, almost all our sports team are amazing, except for basketball of course. How ironic that all the popular boys are in that sports team, said Jezebelle, rolling her eyes and noticing a sad look on Jin's face. What's up with you? Missing your cheese cracker already?

He gets food nicknames too? asked Jin, a bit jealous. Jezebelle groaned and continued, He's probably just sick. Cheer up, hot peppers. Are you... comforting me? Sure, sure, said Jezebelle, amused. Jin lightened up a bit now. I want to see you at my group's bench at the start of nutrition ASAP. Okay! Due to Jin's lack of attention span, he was in pure bliss now as he left Jezebelle's side to his class. Jezebelle rolled her eyes after him. Knowing Jin, he was going to look forward to this meeting, thinking that she had something special for him. Little did he know, she thought of a plan that she wanted to share with him. After all, this was the perfect opportunity for them to make their move. There was no Jordan Greene after all. Right when the bell rang for the end of second period, Jin sped out of the classroom to meet up with Jezebelle. Maybe after their talk yesterday, he made a breakthrough with Jezebelle. After all, it seemed like she was genuinely concerned and cared for him after what happened last night. Even though Jin admitted that he liked Jezebelle the way she was, he kept dreaming of a Jezebelle who liked him back. Maybe today was the day? You, said Jezebelle, holding up a piece of paper up to Jin. Look. What is this? asked Jin, accepting the piece of paper. Wendy and I, said Jezebelle, wrapping her arm across Wendy's waist. Spent all of second period writing this list. Jin stared at names on the paper. What is this list exactly? The blonde girl placed her left hand on her hip. It's a list of all of Jordan's fans. All of Jordan's fans? gasped Jin, checking the numbers. That's a lot. These are only the hardcore ones, said Wendy, rolling her eyes. I was in the groupies with them so I know them all by name and face. Cool, said Jin, folding up the paper. Why do I need this? He's as slow as always, said Jezebelle, groaning. She leaned toward him and poked him in the chest. You and Wendy will take this once in a lifetime opportunity to convert all his fans into your fans. Wendy nodded. Since I know all their faces, I can lead you to them. Wait a second, said Jin, backing away from them. I don't want to steal Jordan's fans. That feels... Jin frowned. Wrong... Who is the one who asked me for help to get to the top? asked Jezebelle coldly. I did... And who is the one who said he was going to save Jordan from his own popularity? I did... Jezebelle smirked. So who should be the one who is going to make this sacrifice in the name of his best friend? I will, said Jin firmly, unfolding the piece of paper. I will then! That was easy, said Wendy, blinking at Jezebelle.

You just need to know how, said Jezebelle back at Wendy. Back to Jin, Jezebelle said, You need to make a bigger name for yourself, kettle corn. You can't just depend on a single event to make yourself famous. You'll only remain a one-hit wonder. Then... said Jin, rethinking. You have to keep yourself in the spotlight. Being popular is hard work, said Jin under his breath. No duh, said Wendy and Jezebelle in unison. Right after, Wendy burst out laughing. Jezebelle ignored her and continued, You saw what Kristian did in class today right? Jin nodded. He was losing his popularity so he did something to keep himself in the spotlight. You need to learn from his example. The best way to make yourself popular is to get people to like you... personally. Personally? Wendy bobbed her head now. You have something that Jordan doesn't. Which is? asked Jin, lost. Jordan's hot, said Jezebelle without hesitation. Jin felt some jealousy but he didn't say anything. The Jin inside of him was laughing though. Girls love him because he has a handsome face and a hot body. He is a social butterfly and talks about lots of random stuff. However, he's like one of those upper celebrities people can't connect with on a personal level. That's your forte. Yup, said Wendy in agreement. You have the boy next door charm that Jordan doesn't. You just need to make use of it. How do I make use of it? asked Jin, glancing back between the two girls. Well... said Wendy, glancing at Jezebelle for help. He needs to be himself really, said Jezebelle, shrugging. Wendy nodded her head, wrapping her arms in front of her chest in thought. Jin just stared blankly. He already has it. I haven't really noticed it until recently but his dorky, cute thing is going for him. Now, he just needs something like... like... Like what? asked Jin, scared. I already dressed up and stopped playing video games in class... Jezebelle shook her head. Not that. Something like that infamous squeak everyone's been talking about. Oh, you mean the one he made in fifth period yesterday? asked Wendy hurriedly. Jin flushed red. Why does everyone know about that? Word spreads fast at Wilson High, said Wendy, laughing loudly again. I know, said Jezebelle, snapping her fingers. He just needs a pose. A pose? asked Wendy and Jin in unison. I know the exact one to use too, said Jezebelle, taking off her hat and shaking her head to allow her curls to dangle on her shoulders. Now, I just need some rubber bands to put my hair up in pigtails... ************************************************

Over in the hallways of the science building, Kristian and Rin were sitting together against the lockers by themselves. There were lots of people walking back and forth to meet up with friends or take things out of their lockers but none of them disturbed the Japanese duo. Rin was sitting against Kristian's side while she looked through the answer sheet he got back from the science test a few days ago. I can't believe it, said Rin, checking through his answers. Me too, said Kristian, dangling his arm off Rin's shoulder. He was playing with the bottom of her shirt without her noticing. He was still wearing sunglasses. I didn't get the highest score. You got the fourth highest score and you studied for a day, said Rin through gritted teeth, nearly crushing his paper in her hands. I still lost to your other boyfriend. He got first. What other boyfriend? Kristian licked his lips and laid his head back. The pale one. His name is Vance and he is not my boyfriend, said Rin, pushing the paper back to Kristian. At least, unlike you, he's joining the team. You just took the test for fun. I told you already, said Kristian in a whiny voice. I have to help my Uncle after school five days a week. I can't come to club meetings anyway! You would have been a great help on the team, said Rin, sighing. If you want me that badly, said Kristian, breathing down her ear now. I can be the absentee member and only show up on the day of the competition. Rin glared at him and pushed him back. I'm not going to pull strings for you! That's not fair to the others! Then, don't bitch about it, said Kristian coolly. Anyways, I'm going to the football game today, said Rin softly. Cool. Have fun. Surprised, Rin turned to him. You're... okay with that? Why wouldn't I be? asked Kristian suspiciously, narrowing his eyes at her now. You've been acting weird all day. What's up? On your period? Do you have to say that out loud? What's wrong with period? It's a punctuation mark too, isn't it? Rin decided that fighting with Kristian was useless and moved on, No, I'm not and even if I am, I'm not telling you. You don't have to know. That's fine, said Kristian, licking his dry lips. I'll know. No, you won't. Yes, I will. Now, Rin was slightly worried. You're bluffing aren't you? How would you know? Your period is pretty consistent, said Kristian suddenly in a serious tone. It's usually the last week of every month isn't it? At that question, Rin tried to remember the last time she had it in her head. Kristian was trying his best not to laugh at her reaction. Of course since he wasn't her stalker or anything, he had no clue when her period was. He was

just making things up. It was still funny to see her struggling to figure out whether he was right or wrong. However, he was not lying when he said he knew when she had it. It was pretty obvious to him at least. Seriously, said Rin, shaking his arm now. How do you know? Tell me now! Not saying, said Kristian, holding a finger to his lips. Secret. Do I act weird? asked Rin, upset. Do I act meaner than usual? Louder than usual? Angrier than usual? I never noticed before. Not saying, repeated Kristian. Tell me now! Since Rin was distracted, Kristian used this opportunity to do what he was trying to do from the beginning of nutrition. Much to his dismay, once his hand was just under her shirt, Rin stood up and glared at him. Acting innocent, Kristian sat back and whistled. If you think for a second that you can get away with that... Kristian smirked. Rin-chan has sensitive skin. Shut up! Before Kristian could say anything back, he heard screaming nearby. No, it wasn't bad screaming or else, Kristian would take off to save the poor girl. Instead, it was a different sort of screaming. One that Kristian knew too well. Oh my God! It's Jin! Hi Jin! You're so cute! Aw! Do your little squeak from yesterday! Curiously, Kristian and Rin got up at once and went over to the crowds of girls. The sight was quite surprising. Jin was greeting each girl by name as if he knew them personally and well, he did something that Rin never saw him do before in the ten or so years she knew him. He winked and poked his cheeks cutely, copying the Fi-Fi pose perfectly. Since Rin didn't know Fi-Fi and Kristian had a cheek fetish, they both had wide eyes at the sight. S-So... said Rin, blushing. Cute... said Kristian under his breath. Kristian, what did you just say? asked Rin, smacking Kristian against the shoulder. Jin! said Kristian, breaking through the crowd. Let me poke your cheeks! Dear God, said Rin, smacking her hand against her forehead and forcing her way through the crowd. Kristian, don't turn gay on Jin! This is not the pairing I ship! You have nice skin, said Kristian after he was done with poking Jin. Almost as nice as mine. Thanks, said Jin with a wide smile. At the sight of Rin, Jin tried to avoid her stare. It's nice to see you girls again. I have to go now. My girlfriend is calling me. Wait Jin! cried Rin after Jin, but he already scurried off with Wendy. The rest of the girls were all chatting merrily among themselves about how loyal Jin was to his girlfriend and how that was attractive. As for Rin, she

was disappointed that she couldn't talk to him at all. What is that boy up to? asked Rin to herself. I have never seen him do that in my life. Why is he doing that now? You should try doing it, said Kristian, recovering. Rin kicked Kristian behind his knees. Never. I so saw that coming, said Kristian, bowing his head to hold back the pain. Once it was gone, Kristian straightened up. About that football game you're going to. I should be done with work, I mean charity work by the time the game is finished. I'll call you and drive you home from school okay? I live literally one block away from the school Kristian. Kristian was humorless now. At around ten at night? What if something happens to you? Remember that time you followed Vance around an unknown neighborhood? I can take care of myself, said Rin stubbornly. Suddenly, Kristian lowered his head and pushed it extremely close to Rin's face. She blushed slightly and took a step back but he simply followed her until they hit a wall. Smirking now, he poked her cheek. I have a favor to ask of you, said Kristian a low tone. Rin tried to look composed. What is it? When I come over today... Flushing bright red, Rin was ready for it. She was going to say no. No matter how tempting it was, she was going to say no. She wasn't ready for this. Actually, she was never going to be ready for this. Even if they weren't going to do it until their engagement, she wasn't going to let him tempt her into other... similar activities. May I sleep in the guest room? Definitely not! No? asked Kristian, stunned at her immediate response. Why not? Is someone else using it? Wait, said Rin, blinking. What? I'm asking if I can sleep in the guest room instead of your room, said Kristian with a sweet smile. That's fine right? Is there a problem with it? Who else is staying over? No... it's empty... Then, it should be fine right? Rin nodded weakly. Yes... it's fine. We're in agreement, correct? asked Kristian, making sure. I don't want you begging me to sleep in your room in the middle of the night okay? Never! cried Rin, insulted. I would never do such a shameless thing! Good. All is good then. Cautiously, Rin moved closer to Kristian. But why this all of a sudden? Let's just say... said Kristian, trying to think of the right words to say. He didn't want to be vulgar or too vague. It's easier for me to sleep in a separate room. Easier? Without thinking, Kristian was busy staring at that exact spot he was

playing with her shirt earlier. Yes. Easier. Anyways, said Rin, not wanting to force that answer out of Kristian. She had a feeling that her intuition was right on that one. What the hell was Jin doing? What has Jezebelle done to him this time? Is Jin going to that football game today? asked Kristian suddenly. Rin nodded. He better! Interesting. What's interesting? asked Rin, peering up at Kristian curiously. Kristian shook his head. Nothing. I trust you. Frowning, Rin did not understand Kristian at all. Sometimes, he said such random things. She did not have much time to dwell on this because she thought of that football game again. If Jin wasn't going to keep that promise to her and Bo, she might have lost him forever. Was his popularity getting to his head already? Did she really lose Jin so soon? Yesterday, he was completely himself with her though. She kept reminding herself this. No, she had to place her trust in Jin. He was going to that game no matter what. Jin would never go back on his promise on their trio. If she didn't have faith in Jin, how could she possibly move on with Kristian? They needed trust after all and she had to learn that from someone. Back at her area, Jezebelle checked her time on her cell phone. There was about five minutes left before the end of break. Like she expected, Jin didn't last through all of break as he collapsed next to her. Wendy came up to them with an amused look on her face. Right now, Jezebelle had her hair up in pigtails. Jezebelle lifted a brow in questioning. Wendy smiled. Everything went well then. So Wendy, said Jezebelle, fluttering her pretty eyelashes at the other girl. I hear Jordan's single again. What are you trying to imply? asked Wendy defensively. You can sink your claw into him, said Jezebelle bluntly. No thank you. You can always date him again and then dump him as a form of revenge, said Jezebelle, gazing up at Wendy suggestively. That's always an option. I'm not a whore like you. Jezebelle pouted and glanced away. You're just weak sauce. Hey! That's my line! You can't steal my line! Sorry, darling, said Jezebelle though she meant anything but sorry. Your line is not copyrighted or anything so get over it bitch. Wendy frowned. Well, I can always steal your Jin Song instead. Go ahead, said Jezebelle, petting Jin on the head. He was resting. Take him. Now, I don't want him anymore, said Wendy, disappointed at Jezebelle's reaction. Besides, I wouldn't anyway. The first rule of the Girl Friend Code and all. Never date your friend's current or ex boyfriend, said Jezebelle, knowing the rules by heart. Except you don't have to follow that Wendy dear.

I'm not your friend remember? You can backstab me all you like. I actually encourage it. You're the strangest girl I have ever met, said Wendy, twisting her spiky bracelet. I take that as a compliment thanks. Jin sat up straight now. That was really fun. Go back to sleep, lame face, said Jezebelle, pushing him back down. I'm glad you have fun, Jin Song, said Wendy with a bright smile. Jin smiled back. Those girls might be Jordan fangirls but they're all good people. They really like you. Wendy laughed loudly. They were like hugging you and calling you cute and shit! Oh man! Jin laughed. It was so weird. I know right? asked Wendy, still laughing. Wendy, said Jin in a serious tone now. How are things going with you and Cash? Jordan asked you to talk to me didn't he? asked Wendy, no longer happy. He did, said Jin honestly, worried. He really doesn't like you with Cash. I know that too well, said Wendy, forcing herself to sit in between Jin and Jezebelle. Jezebelle pretended not to care and went back to checking her hair. It's really none of his business. He's just being a big, fat hypocrite. He cares about you Wendy... Wendy growled. I don't care for his kindness. Personally, I don't know if you should date someone who is already in a relationship, said Jin, lowering his voice. You might get hurt in the long-run. You're very kind, Jin Song, said Wendy, trying hard to smile at Jin. But that's impossible. Jin's eyes widened. It's impossible for Cash to hurt me because I don't love him. Wendy lowered her eyes. Even if he's cheating on me with three different girls, I wouldn't care at all. When you don't involve yourself emotionally, you can't get hurt. It's as simple as that. Wendy... To be fair, said Wendy slowly. Cash is actually perfect for me. Perfect? Nodding, Wendy continued, He's hardworking and ambitious. He's passionate and sociable. Sure, he can be a bit clumsy and corny but he's a pretty good person overall. I admire all those traits about him. Best of all, he can make me laugh and I like to laugh. Those fruit jokes are really something. Why don't you date him already then? asked Jezebelle, annoyed. If it's not the open relationship, what is it then? It's stupid, said Wendy immediately. All the more reason for me to hear it, said Jezebelle, smirking. The bell rang just in time to save Wendy from Jezebelle. The blonde sophomore laughed at her luck and went on her way, not looking back. Since Wendy ran away at the last minute, Jezebelle was angry now. Jin was so scared of Jezebelle that he snuck away as well. Dropping her hair down, Jezebelle

wore her hat quickly and went in the opposite direction of her classroom. Jordan! The blonde boy who was taking a pencil out of his backpack was soon embraced by Jin. The effect was immediate. Jordan screamed and ducked under his chair. There was only a couple of people in the classroom but since they were nerds, they didn't care much and look away. The cool kids never come to class early. Feeling guilty, Jin helped Jordan out from under the chair. You're back, said Jin with a smile. I thought you caught a cold or something. No... said Jordan weakly. I'm fine... Jin beamed. I'm glad then! Why are you here so late though? No reason... said Jordan, sitting down in his seat. Jin did the same. I don't want to miss my Calculus test so here I am. Oh, I see. I didn't want to let her down, said Jordan, trying hard to sound cheerful. You mean Rin-chan? asked Jin for confirmation. Jordan nodded. She's a really mean tutor but she's good girl in general. I'm glad you and Rin-chan are getting along. If you can call it that since we're friends now, said Jordan softly. He fidgeted with his hands nervously. Hey Jin. May I ask you something real quick before class starts? What is it Jordan? asked Jin, concerned. Jordan sighed. Promise that you won't overreact? I promise. What is it? What if... said Jordan, trailing off. He gulped and continued, I were to go somewhere... far away. Like France or something? asked Jin, clueless. Yeah, exactly, said Jordan with more courage. Let's say I go to France for a while. What do you think of that? That's nice, said Jin with a smile. I hope you have fun there if you go. Would you... said Jordan but stopping midway. He didn't know if he should ask Jin this but the boy kept staring at him. Would you think of me? Of course, said Jin with a nod. We'll text each other every day. Jordan laughed bitterly. What if phones don't work where I go? That can be a problem... Yes it is... Jin thought about it. How about e-mail? You can check your e-mail even in France can't you? Forget France for a second, said Jordan solemnly. He gazed intently at Jin. Let's say there's no way you can communicate with me at all while I'm there. Well... said Jin, uncertain now. Suddenly, he brightened up. I'll just hold a huge welcome party once you're back! For some reason, Jordan's face fell. Is that so...

Are you all right Jordan? Yeah... said Jordan, nodding. That'll be nice. A welcome back party. I'll cook, said Jin happily. Then, he paused and frowned. Or would you prefer restaurant food? Anything is fine, said Jordan, smiling softly at Jin now. When are you going anyways? asked Jin, excited now. And for how long? I'm not going anywhere, said Jordan, laughing now. Jordan relaxed in his chair. I was just asking for fun that's all. I'm relieved then, said Jin, sighing. Jordan lifted a brow. If you were to go anywhere for any period of time, I'll miss you a lot. You're my friend after all. But... Jin beamed. Once you're back, I'll be really happy! I can't to see all the photos and hear all your stories there! What if... said Jordan, closing his eyes. I don't come back? You're moving? asked Jin, surprised. You promised you wouldn't overreact. Right... sorry... Forget my question, said Jordan, sitting up straight now. I need to study my notes before the test. Good luck on your test Jin. Good luck Jordan. After he was done with the test, Jin stretched in relief. It wasn't such a hard test after all. Even though he didn't study at all, Jin thought he passed it with a C at least. Curiously, Jin glanced over at Jordan to find the boy still working on his test. Jin was so proud of Jordan. He was working so hard on his test in order to prove to Rin that she didn't waste time tutoring him. Next, Jin shifted his attention over to his other friend Bo. The Korean male was playing video games under his desk since he was also done with his test. For the first time in a while, Jin missed playing video games with him. Since Jordan was back in school, Jin had no reason to hesitate going to that football game with Rin anymore. He was going to make up to his friends. He was going to somehow convince them that what he was doing right now was for the best. Even if they were not together officially, they should still remain as close friends. He would love that. Oh the bell, said Jin to himself at the sound of the bell. Well, Jordan, let's go to fourth period and- Jordan was nowhere in sight. Gasping, Jin ran out of the classroom and looked around. There was no sign of Jordan at all. Confused, Jin went back inside and looked at the stack of test papers. Jordan's paper was on top, which meant he finished his test and left in a hurry. At the sight of Jordan's name on his paper, Jin felt horrible for some reason. This was the first time since they became friends that Jordan disappeared on him without a word. Quickly, Jin rushed out of the classroom without a second thought. Once Jin was in his fourth period class, he looked around frantically for the blonde boy. No sign of Jordan. Where was Jordan? Impatient, Jin strolled around the classroom as other students entered slowly. However, Jordan never came. Once the tardy bell rang, Jin ran back and sat down in his seat, staring

at the empty chair next to him the entire time. During lunch, Jin ran around to ask everyone he met if they saw Jordan at all. None of them did. Not a single person saw Jordan since the test during third period. Anxious, Jin searched out for Roselle but he couldn't find her at all. Trembling, Jin stopped at a tree in the middle of the Quad for breath. This was when someone found him. Jin Song! Jin whirled his head quickly to meet Victoria's miserable face. Vic... I like texted Jordan like a million times by now and called him like several times but like he wouldn't answer... Good idea, said Jin, taking out his phone and calling Jordan's cell phone as well. After a while, he was sent to Jordan's voicemail. He really isn't picking up... Jin Song like do you know like what's going on? asked Victoria, bursting into tears. Jin quickly accepted her shaking embrace. I mean like he's not like me at all. I usually like stay home when I'm like heartbroken like oh my God... Victoria sniffed back her tears. But like he's not like that like... It's okay Vic, said Jin, rubbing her shoulder. You don't have to talk. Like... he would tell me something if he decides to like stay home or like he caught a cold or like... yeah... He looks perfectly healthy to me, said Jin under his breath. Victoria picked her head up to surprise. He does sound down today during third period though. I'm worried about his mental state. You know how he is. I know babe, said Victoria, squeezing Jin in a tighter embrace. I really can't like go to school without like knowing how he is... You must, said Jin, holding her tight against the shoulders now. Jin had a stern look. You have to stay in school, Vic. You need to do this for your poor mother at home right? You must go to school for her. But what about Jordan... I'll handle it, said Jin with a comforting smile. Victoria was not satisfied though. No, cross that. We'll handle it but not now. We have to stay in school for our parents but then, after school, we'll go look for him together. We'll split up and search him out. Right... said Victoria, calming down. After school... then... Meanwhile, said Jin, gripping onto her shoulders firmly. You keep texting him. I'll try calling him as well. If I get a hold of him, I'll call you right after. Same. Remain calm, Vic, said Jin, releasing his hand. Everything will be all right. Thanks Jin Song, said Victoria, hugging her cell phone to her chest. I don't know like what I would do without you. Little did Victoria knew, the moment she was gone Jin sat down and hid his head in his hands. How could he even think of stealing Jordan's fans at a time like this? Furthermore, Jordan usually picked up his calls. Why wasn't he texting back to Victoria either? Where was Roselle and what happened between

them exactly? Most importantly, Jordan started such a strange conversation with Jin earlier. What was that all about? What is going on Jordan? asked Jin inwardly to himself. ************************************************** Leaving her fourth period classroom for lunch, Wendy chatted with a couple of girls who were busy keeping track of Jordan's love life. This was the thousandth time Wendy had to hear the Roselle and Jordan break up news. Inwardly, she didn't like this news very much. After meeting Roselle, Wendy decided she liked the girl very much so she was disappointed when she heard the news. Yo Wendy. The other girls muttered among themselves. Look. It's Cash. Smiling to Cash, Wendy punched him playfully in the arm. Yo. What's up? Is it true? asked Cash immediately, dragging her away from the other girls. You're going to try to get back together with Jordan now? What the fuck? Where did you hear that? Your best friend, said Cash innocently. Wendy punched her other hand. Damn that Jezebelle. You're cooler than that, Wendy, said Cash, shaking his head. Why would you try to get back together with the same person who dumped you once? Are you stupid? I have no plans whatsoever to date Jordan Greene again, said Wendy, placing her hands in her hips in anger. I don't care that he broke up with his girlfriend or not. Oh, said Cash, taking a step back. Cool then. You went all this way just to stop me? Cash pocketed his hands. Yeah. Oh man, said Wendy, laughing at Cash's bashful face. You actually did that for me? You dork. We're not even friends. You didn't have to do that yo. It's nothing. I just don't want you to make the wrong decision. Don't worry, said Wendy, waving it off. I won't. I'm not that pathetic. Well, cool, said Cash, not knowing what to say now. Cool indeed. So, said Cash, turning away. I should go. Wait, said Wendy, stopping him before he went down the stairs. You're not going to bother me about dating you again? That's all you bother me about these days. I'll win my first game and you're mine, said Cash, smiling. It's a deal right? Sure, if you win, said Wendy, teasing. Have confidence in me, baby, said Cash, amused. We haven't been practicing long hours every day so far for nothing right? I can't lose with your loving support. Cheap words, said Wendy, playing with her spiky bracelet now. We'll see what happens at your first game.

It's only like what three weeks away? Sounds about right. Cash smirked. I'll make it. Three ways of hardcore training for Wendy. It's worth it. You're not dating me because of Jordan right? asked Wendy, skeptical. Because if you are, Roselle is a free target now. You don't have to bother yourself with a plain girl like me. Roselle's actually cute. Thanks but no thanks said Cash, watching Wendy play with her bracelet. And you're not fucking plain, Wendy. Dish up some self-confidence please. I am and I know that, said Wendy, shrugging. Jezebelle tells me that every day. A cop's daughter can't be plain okay? It's just not possible. Laughing now, Wendy said, What kind of lousy logic is that? It sounded better in my head okay? asked Cash, indicating at Wendy's bracelet. Wicked thing. Can I see it? Don't lose it, said Wendy jokingly, handing it to him. It's precious. As if she just jinxed him, Cash accidentally dropped her spiky bracelet down a step. Laughing at his carelessness, Wendy made fun of his lack of control both here and on the court before she reached down to pick up her bracelet. However, she slipped on the edge of the step right when she got a hold of her bracelet. Immediately, she tumbled down the stairs. Everything was a blur. She remembered falling but she didn't feel any pain at all. Dizzy, Wendy sat up to find herself at the bottom of the stairs with a crowd around her. She checked her hand to see that her bracelet was still there. Relieved that she still had it, Wendy got up only to notice that she was on top of something firm and strong. This was when she noticed that it was Cash who cushioned her fall down the stairs. Cash, said Wendy, heaving herself off him and shaking him slightly. He was trying to recover from the dizziness as well. Cash! Are you okay? I... said Cash, shocked. Can't get up. Your legs, said Wendy, checking his leg. Ouch, screamed Cash when Wendy tried to touch. What the fuck? My legs... Without hesitation, Wendy picked Cash up bridal-style. The blonde boy gaped at Wendy, both at her strength and the suddenness of it all. Since Wendy watched emergency situations on television before, she knew exactly what to do. Leaving the building, Wendy couldn't stop her head from flashing back images of the past. She could still hear his voice in her head during that scene. Wendy... No Zak... no... At least I protected you. In the nurse's office, Wendy waited outside where Cash rested in one of the rooms. They had already called the ambulance so it was going to take about ten minutes or so for it to get here to pick Cash up. Much to Wendy's

surprise, she saw Roselle leaving one of the resting rooms to get a new ice pack. Roselle, said Wendy in shock at the other girl's condition. Oh hey, said Roselle, coming over to Wendy. How are you? Oh man, said Wendy, observing Roselle closely. She was bruised all over. Forget me. What happen to you girl? Nothing big, said Roselle, shrugging. I was gang raped during nutrition? Gang raped? Not literally. I was bullied and I didn't fight back at all. Wendy knew exactly what Roselle meant now. Why not? I didn't want to cause problems for Mom on behalf of an old relationship, said Roselle, placing the ice pack on top of her head. I'm fine really. I'll be able to leave at the end of lunch. What about you? You look fine. Cash is in there... said Wendy, looking guilty. I saw, said Roselle admittedly. I think he broke his leg, but I hope not. Yeah I know, said Wendy miserably. It's all my fault too. How is it your fault? asked Roselle, annoyed. You shouldn't say such stupid things. He'll be fine. It's nothing big. He'll probably be in crutches for a month or two. But he has a basketball game in three weeks! cried Wendy, clearly upset. Roselle paused and stared at the girl. Wendy was on the point of tears. He has been working so hard for this upcoming Varsity game. He can't be in crutches! Are you okay? asked Roselle worriedly. You're overreacting. Something like this happened before, said Wendy under her breath. What do you mean? asked Roselle with wide eyes. Wendy bit her lip. Jordan isn't my first and only boyfriend... Seriously? asked Roselle, gaping. But you never dated anyone else in high school I don't think? I haven't heard of anything? Maybe I don't remember? No, no, said Wendy, waving her hands frantically in front of Roselle. We dated in eighth grade back in my junior high school. Oh... said Roselle, tilting her head. You guys broke up? Broke up... muttered Wendy as if those two words were foreign to her. I guess you can say we never officially broke up but... Wendy touched her spiky bracelet unconsciously. We can't be together anymore. I see. He was just like Cash actually, said Wendy, reminiscing. He really likes me. He tries really hard to win me over with his goofiness. He makes me laugh all the time. Wendy paused and smiled sadly. And like Cash, no matter how hard he tries, I can never seem to return his feelings. Oh... But he's gone now, said Wendy quickly, looking up at Roselle. It's all in the past. I shouldn't think about it too much. Right when Wendy stopped, she and Roselle heard a loud 'fuck' from the

other room. They both rushed in to find Cash on the floor instead of on his bed. He was slamming his fist angrily onto the ground, cursing himself. Hurriedly, Wendy went up to him and tried to help him up but he refused. Watch, said Cash stubbornly. I'll walk. This is nothing. No, you should rest until the ambulance gets here, said Wendy, shaking her head. If I can't walk, said Cash, still refusing either of the girls touching him. All my hard work has been nothing but crap. I don't care what I'll do. I have to be with the others on that first match no matter what. Wendy hid her face in her hands. I'm sorry... I'm so sorry... Standing outside of the nurse's office, Jezebelle listened to the entire Wendy and Roselle conversation quietly. The half-Korean girl stared at her nails, trying to decide when was the best time to enter. Soon enough, she met the eyes of a certain Japanese boy and his two best friends. ************************************************* Finally, fifth period arrived. Neither Jin nor Victoria reached Jordan. They even recruited Frida's help. The Latino girl was unable to contact him either. None of them knew where Roselle was at all so they couldn't ask her to try. Even with Bailey's help (they ran into her along the way with Joseph Cruz), she could only contact his home phone number. According to his brother-in-law, he left a goodbye note. He wasn't planning on returning home. Did this mean he was going on that journey he spoke of earlier? There was gloomy atmosphere in the air during that fifth period for sure. For one thing, Roselle and Jordan were both absent from their seats. Kristian was not there either. Rin kept glancing back at Jin since she wanted to know his answer to his promise. In the back of her mind, she was curious where Kristian was as well. As for the popular boys in the back, Abe and the other Pimp Juice boys didn't seem well either. There was an accident with Cash Grahams so none of them were happy. As for Jin, he couldn't stop thinking of that earlier conversation with Jordan. There might have been a hint somewhere. Oh Roselle and Kristian, said Mrs. Meyerson, catching sight of Roselle and Kristian walking in the classroom. Where have you two been? Nurse's office, said Roselle and Kristian in unison, handing her the note. Everyone in the back were muttering to themselves. It was obvious that Roselle was beat up. Kristian was her group leader so no one really questioned why he was with her. Sitting in his seat, Kristian sighed and laid his head on his desk. Roselle went to her seat and acted normal despite everyone's eyes on her. At the end of fifth period, the effect was immediate. Jin, said Rin, going up to Jin. Hey Jin, said Kristian, also to Jin. He was slightly surprised Rin was also talking to Jin but he didn't show any emotion on his face. I got a message for you. Jin blinked at the two but he excused himself quickly to stop Roselle from leaving the room first. Hey Roselle. May I talk to you?

Seeing Jin, Rin, and Kristian surrounding her, Roselle dropped her eyes and said, If it's about Jordan, I have no idea where he is either. What happen between you two? asked Jin, afraid to ask. We broke up. That's it. That can't be it, said Kristian in interruption. I don't see Jordan ditching school after he broke up with Wendy Wilshire. Speaking of Wendy Wilshire though, Kristian turned his eyes to Jin. I have a message from your girlfriend. Fi? asked Jin in disbelief. What happen to her? Nothing really, said Kristian, shaking his head. She's going to the hospital with Wendy and Cash. She's not hurt herself but she wants to be with Wendy. She's most likely doing this just to skip school. I see, said Jin, blinking. That's all, said Kristian, shrugging. Nothing else is my business really. Later. Wait a second Kristian, said Rin, stopping Kristian from leaving. Go on without me. I have something important Kristian thought about it and nodded. Of course, my love. Should I go on ahead then? asked Roselle, throwing a look back and forth between Jin and Rin. Yeah, sure, said Jin with a weak smile. We'll talk in sixth period. Sure... said Roselle, leaving in a hurry. After Roselle and Kristian left together, Rin lowered her eyes and managed all her courage to talk to Jin. Jin felt bad toward Rin. He hadn't even thought about her and Bo all day. Even though she reminded him of their promise early in the day, he kept occupying his thoughts of Jordan's strange behavior and his eventual disappearance. Rin-chan, I'm so sorry. I don't want to hear excuses. I just want to know whether you'll be there or not. Jin sighed. I don't know. I really can't say. What do you mean you can't say? asked Rin, angry. You said you'll give me an answer eventually right? It's sixth period Jin! You and Bo are really important to me, said Jin, trailing off. But Jordan is just as important to me. Rin leaned toward him despite the shorter height. Listen here, Jin. I'm sick of this! Sick of this? Yes! said Rin, stomping her foot. This is exactly like what happen between Jezebelle and I a while ago. You picked her over me even though we've known each other like our whole lives! You don't understand Rin-chan... No, I do understand, said Rin, hurt. You are taking our friendship for granted. No, never! said Jin, holding onto her shoulders with both hands. You'll always be my best friend Rin-chan. I never take our friendship for

granted... even for a second. Then why are you hesitating? asked Rin, losing her patience. How long have you been friends with Jordan? Two weeks? The start of fall semester? How long have you been friends with Bo? Freshman year Jin. Freaking freshman year. Rin narrowed her eyes dangerously. We're not even talking about our friendship since elementary school here! I understand but- No, you don't understand, said Rin, interrupting him. You never understand! You keep crushing my feelings over and over! Are you really happy with, Rin started to cry out of frustration now. Are you really happy with me ending our friendship today? Unable to take it anymore, Jin clapped his hand over Rin's mouth to shut her up so he could speak. Rin tried to claw Jin's hand off but Jin was stronger than her so her efforts were futile. Their English teacher pretended not to notice their argument. The students coming in for sixth period chose to stay outside the classroom at the sight of these two. You don't get it, Rin-chan, said Jin in a lowered voice. You're the one who doesn't understand anything. Rin's eyes widened. You're always like this ever since we met back in second grade. You're sensitive and impulsive all the time and you make everything more dramatic than it is. That's you, Rin-chan. You're the drama queen here, thought Rin, hurt. I know I never told you this but, said Jin in a solemn tone. You're really immature, Rin-chan. Rin looked like she was ready to bit Jin's hand off now. You're really self-centered and you don't think of anyone else's feelings except your own! It's always about you. You're always first. Rin looked down as she pulled his hand away. Is that so... is that your true feelings Jin? These feelings you never tell me about? This promise, said Jin, looking away. It's not for Bo is it? Rin dropped her jaw in outrage. I can tell. I've known you for years now Rin-chan. You're doing this for yourself. You want to reassure yourself that our friendship is not drifting apart. No... said Rin, closing her eyes. No, that's not true! It is, said Jin firmly, grabbing a hold of her wrist and dragging her outside of the classroom. The bell rang right when they left the classroom and all the other students went inside. How is it that you and Jordan are so similar yet so different? Don't compare me to him! cried Rin, mad. I'm not like him at all! Yes, you are, said Jin firmly. You're both very similar and very different. How? asked Rin daring Jin to continue. You both keep making stupid mistakes all the time, both in your relationships and in your friendships, said Jin, shaking his head. Rin began to shake now. You are both very immature and sensitive. Jin paused and continued in a softer voice. But the difference between you and Jordan is that he admits his own mistakes and kills himself over it. Rin was speechless. I...

You keep making the same mistakes all these years, said Jin, gazing intently into her eyes. Yet, you never learn from them. You never try to change yourself for the sake of others. Whenever you're down, you want the rest of us to help you back up. You need our support. Rin knew this was true so she didn't say anything. But Jordan on the other hand is different. He tries to keep it all in until he can't take it anymore. He regrets and tries to do better to make up for what he has done. At least, he wants to change himself for the sake of others. Like when? asked Rin weakly. Like today, said Jin in a braver voice. Even though he's miserable, he still goes to school to take that Calculus test. Rin stared at Jin in disbelief. He said he didn't want to let you down. He didn't want to let himself down either. He even tried to smile and acted like nothing's wrong. Is that so... You know what he said? asked Jin, feeling the tears in his eyes. He said even though you're a mean tutor, you're a good person. And that... Rin kept staring at Jin, stunned. And that you two are friends... Friends? asked Rin, remembering what she said to Jordan. Yes, we're friends... That is why, Rin-chan, said Jin, turning his back to her. I have come to my decision. Even with all your faults Rin-chan, you are truly a good person and friend. You have a lot of strengths too. That is why we've been friends for so long. We make up for each other's weaknesses. I just fail at changing yours. Jin, you don't have to- Jin shook his head. I'm not perfect either. And I hate myself for it. Sighing, Rin went up to him. So what are you going to do now? It's true that if I don't keep my promise to you and Bo, I'll be a horrible friend. Rin nodded. Yes, you would... But, said Jin suddenly. If I don't find Jordan, I'll be even worse than a horrible friend. I'll be a... Jin wiped the tears leaking down his eyes. Horrible human being. So... Jin looked over his shoulder at her. I'm sorry, Rin-chan. Are you stupid or something Jin? asked Rin, screaming after Jin took a couple of steps away. Is that all you're going to say and do after you insult me to death in that speech of yours? Walk away? What? asked Jin, stopping his steps and glancing back at her. Without warning, Rin ran and grabbed a hold of Jin's arm, dragging him with her. Paralyzed, Jin simply ran with Rin. They kept running with her leading and him following. They ran out of the hallway of the building and out into the sunlight. Where are we going Rin-chan? asked Jin, regaining his voice. Isn't it obvious? asked Rin, refusing to look back right now. Sixth period and practice are not important right now! Let's go and find that idiot together! Rin-chan! said Jin in complete surprise, gaping at her. Did you just say sixth period doesn't matter?

Shut up! Touched, Jin said, This is going on your permanent record, Rin-chan. Who cares, said Rin, beaming now. She felt great. After hearing all her faults to her face and then deciding to skip school, she never felt so alive before. I'm not going to let Jordan Green get away with stealing my best friend if I can do anything about it! Besides, Rin winked and poked her cheek playfully in imitation of Jin earlier. If we find him quickly, we'll make it for the football game at seven on time! You don't have to break your promise to Bo and I either! You're right, said Jin, blinking. Stupid Jin, said Rin, giggling and quickening her pace. You're so helpless without me. I'm so hopeless with you. And I guess Jordan Greene is hopeless without you. So, we should just all get along and be hopeless together! Jin laughed and quickened his pace as well. You've changed, Rin-chan. You have as well, said Rin with a bright smile. I'm sorry for earlier. Me too. After Rin slowed down, Jin took the lead and forced her to run with him instead. There were staff people guarding the gate of the school. Nodding in unison, Rin and Jin ignored them and ran past them. They were not fast enough to stop the two from ditching school. Before they were caught, Rin and Jin had already made it inside Jin's car. They were going to find Jordan no matter what. They were his friends after all.
