Sarah Roberts | www.sarahlroberts.co.uk Terrestrial is a combination of my inspiration from around the world. I have many more, but no book would be big enough to fit in everything. I hope you enjoy gazing at the beautiful design that follows.
Preface
There is a clear difference in design around the world, different trends and certain desired aesthetics. Design from what might be thought of as a desirable place and even elite European destinations is now valued as good, and definite styles attract the design educated. Most of the time design for designer is much more simplistic, appears to say little, but in doing so says much more to the educated few who understand visual language in the context of typography, layout and image. We can see certain trends occurring and re-occurring from different geographical location around the globe, just as any trend that has gone before. With the dawn of globalisation these trends and cultural boundaries are disappearing. It soon becomes a taste preference; inspiration can be taken from anywhere. Todays world is growing smaller and smaller with each technological advance. Could this irradiate culture styles of design? The answer: It is very probable. We must consider that although globalisation connects the world like never before, the encounter of something viewed on a monitor will never come close to the real experience. Until technology utilizes our five senses: touch, see, taste, smell and hear, we will never truly eradicate geography location. Slowly these boundaries will be eradicated altogether; we will at that point be living among such variety in our communities of nationalities, travels and experiences. In the end we all have our own tastes and so will our clients; a geographical location seems less important. We have the largest ever resource at hand almost anywhere, anytime: the Internet. At the moment we create the best design we can in the environment we have. It seems obvious: we change our environment for the better, and our design will become better.

From here COLORS Magazine was created. It was a pioneer in explaining how globalization is changing our lives and one of the first media outlets that encouraged people to think globally and act locally. It has faithfully documented our changing world by highlighting the lives of the people who live in it, underlining the fact that cultural diversity is ever more important on an increasingly homogenized planet.
