Brief

Designs started as live briefs undertaken on placement for various contexts and applications. As an extension, these 4 stylings were developed further into comprehensive greetings ranges, each with a standard set of deliverables. The ranges have been branded as The Tigerprint Collection for sale in M&S. The idea is that this signature collection would allow the studio to showcase their more experimental and guest talent that isnt necessarily restricted by M&S brand guidelines.

Fairytale The original brief for this range was to develop styling for high end kids stationery. The theme was fairytales, and I was asked to not take them literally, but to look at the underlying themes and feels of each fairytale. I was also asked to look at hidden details and elements, cut through areas and revealing information. I responded to this by constructing images from patterns, in an almost collage like approach, layering details on top of each other.

Specifications Uncoated stock was chosen for the deliverables to tie in with the rustic, woodland feel of the fairytale theme. Gloss Lamination was used to highlight key areas of the card range.

Say it With Words/Hand Drawn range The original brief for this range was to develop a set of self contained sentiments and designs based on pieces from the Hallmark/Tigerprint Archives. The original inspiration pieces can be found in my blogging. I took key colours and shapes from numerous samples and created new patterns using hand rendered techniques. These were combined with hand rendered type to illustrate given phrases and sentiments.

Specifications Uncoated stock and brown paper were chosen for the deliverables to reflect the colour scheme and visual approach of the range. Key areas of the Greetings cards are highlighted in gold or silver foil. This was chosen in contrast to the feel of the stock.

Sweet Treat The original brief for this range was to develop styling for high end kids stationery. The theme was Sweet Treats is aimed at young girls. I was encouraged to go crazy with candy colours, and cute imagery, to make it as girly as possible. This was continuing the hidden elements approach from the Fairytale brief, so again I developed a set of patterns to use to construct simple imagery, and combined this with hand drawn type. The patterns were made to be completely over the top and busy, to reflect the hyperactive nature of candy and little girls.

Specifications Coated stock was used throughout this range to showcase the colours used in the designs to their best. It also helps to communicate the high end nature of the deliverables. Key areas of the Greetings cards are highlighted in silver foil to add to this luxury feel. The gift tags are die cut into heart shapes within the 70mm constraint, and are coated on one side only to allow for easy writing.

I took key colours and shapes from numerous samples to apply pattern to the lettering. To extend the range I then extrapolated these small areas of surface decoration into full repeat patterns. The colour scheme was chosen to appeal to a male audience,
