LESSON PLAN

Teacher: Fazakas Monica Florentina School: coala Gimnazial Nr 1 Srbi Date: the 12th of October 2012 Time: 50 minutes Number of students: 24 Grade: 7th Textbook: Highflyer Intermediate Topic: Bumps, thumps and flashes Type: acquiring new information Skills: writing, speaking, reading, listening Teaching techniques: conversation, individual work, dialogues, exercise, debate. Aids: textbook, pupils` notebooks, chalk, blackboard, worksheets, magazine articles. Lesson competences: By the end of the lesson students will be able to: Give reasons for reading an article in a magazine Read a text for specific information Use proper vocabulary(talk about strange events) Anticipate the content of a text Debate on a given topic (strange happening in their village)

ACTIVITY 1: WARM UP Aim: to create a pleasant atmosphere and to relax. Procedure: The teacher greets the pupils. The pupil on duty tells absents; the teacher writes absents in the roll; then the teacher checks the homework and the previous knowledge. As a warm up activity pupils repeat some tongue twisters. Estimated time: 5 minutes INTERACTION: teacher pupils ACTIVITY 2: LEAD IN Aim: to raise interest in topic Procedure: The teacher shows students some magazine articles and asks them to choose the one that raised their interest and to argument their choice. Then students do exercise 1: they have some reasons for reading an article in a magazine and they have to number them in order of importance. After that, in pairs, students discuss their choices with their partners.

Timing: 10 minutes INTERACTION: teacher- pupils ACTIVITY 3:PRE-READING Aim: prepare for what they are about to read Procedure: The teacher asks students to look at the title, subtitles and photographs in the magazine article they have in their textbooks and say what they think the story is about. Students discuss the titles and photographs and give their opinion about the content of the text. Teacher gives students some unknown words. Timing: 5 minutes Interaction: teacher-pupil ACTIVITY 4: WHILE READING Aim: find out what is the story about Procedure: Students read the text and find out whether their suppositions were right or not. Then they do exercises 3 and 4, they read the text again and mark the sentences true or false and match the events which happened at the same time. Timing: 15 minutes Interaction: teacher- pupil, ACTIVITY 5: POST READING Aim: to talk about strange events Procedure: The teacher asks students to think about strange happenings in their village and talk about the one they find the strangest. Four or five students tell some strange happenings in their village and then together with the rest of the class decide which the strangest one is. Then teacher gives them a handout. Timing: 12 minutes Interaction: pupil-pupil, teacher- pupils. ACTIVITY 7: HOMEWORK Students have to write a short article about the latest strange happening they are aware of and they also have to finish the exercises on their worksheets. Timing: 3minutes Interaction: teacher-pupil.
