Child Care
The Pathway to CDA is a series of 10 units of training that prepares child care providers for the National CDA credential awarded by the Council for Professional Recognition. It is the only curriculum that is eligible for a scholarship through the Scholars for Excellence in Child Care program. On June 1, 2013, an update of the Pathway to CDA curriculum was federally mandated to replace the previous curriculum. The new 10 unit, 150 hour curriculum replaces the 15 unit, 120 hour curriculum that was in place January 1, 2012 through May 31, 2013. Changes in the federally mandated curriculum have created the need for MNTC to create an open entry class for those completing the old curriculum and another series of classes for people just beginning in the Pathway to CDA program, who will start with the new curriculum.
Old Curriculum:
Tuesday night, open entry classes allow students to enroll on any Tuesday, Students are required to have previously completed at least one of the 15 units in the old curriculum. At the time you enroll, you must be confident you will able to complete all 15 units before November 19, 2013. Students in open entry will be able to complete at their own pace. Students completing the old curriculum have until December 1, 2013 to make application for their national certification. After that time, all students must have taken the new curriculum to be eligible to test. There is no way to transfer any credit from the old curriculum to the new. For more information about the old curriculum classes, please call 405.364.5763, ext. 7260.
New Curriculum:
Students who have not completed any of the 15 units, of the old curriculum, or cannot complete the old curriculum in the time period available, will want to enroll in the regular classes that meet Monday and Thursday nights. Both curriculums allow students to take the units out of order except for the final unit which must be taken last.
