The elbow of the stove can be made from different materials to improve durability. We used a mixture of clay and sand (Lorena), pumice stone and concrete, Downpipe heavy steel, 430 stainless steel or ceramic heat-resistant special. Currently all of our stoves in Honduras are built with this type of refractory ceramic.
Each of our wood stoves includes a unique combustion chamber. Here's how the elbow of the stove works:

The elbow is then placed inside a container completely isolated. This container can be made from almost any material. We used 5-gallon cans, bricks, clay, cement. For insulation we suggest the use of the ash, perlite or pumice. Do not use mass elements such as earth, sand or cement. They collect heat from the stove and reduce the efficiency of combustion. For optimal use, we recommend a chimney 9 "and a store of fuel supply 4". The rocket stove (Rocket stove) is a development of the camp fire with three stones, but is only part of the equation. To save real wood burning, we must maximize heat transfer into the pot.

This drawing shows a thin piece of metal (a skirt) wrapped around the pot. This skirt is forcing hot gases to rub the bottom and sides of pans. The space between the pot and the skirt should be about 1 cm (assuming you use a medium sized pot). In our tests, this simple heat exchanger (an old coffee can works well!) almost doubles the efficiency of the rocket stove .
