GENERAL INFORMATION Most courses start week beginning 8th April 2013 Half Term is 27th - 31st May inclusive Guildhouse closed. Office Hours The Guildhouse Office is normally open during the term as follows: Monday to Thursday 9.00 am - 4.00 pm and 6.45 - 9.30 pm. Friday 9.00 am - 4.00 pm. Please note that on some afternoons and evenings the office is attended by a voluntary steward who, if unable to answer your query, will take a message so that office staff can return your call. Anyone who is interested in becoming a VOLUNTARY STEWARD please contact the office or a member of the Executive. Course Codes All courses are numbered with a three figure number, followed by two letters to show which term, and take place at The Percival Guildhouse, some of our courses take place at an outside venue: Rugby Methodist Church Centre, Russelheim Way, just a short walk away from the Guildhouse. The United Reformed Church, Hillmorton Road. Cotesbach Village Hall, Cotesbach. Church Lawford Village Hall. These are listed by the individual course. All ENROLMENT takes place at the Percival Guildhouse. Course Information Sheets For some courses, students are provided with a course outline/syllabus. It is intended to present a general statement of the topics to be covered and the order in which they are to be presented. It will be appreciated that successful learning outcomes are affected by the prior knowledge of the group and by individual interests and expertise. Some variation in the time given to particular topics, and the precise order in which they are presented, is therefore to be expected. All information is correct at the time of printing. LANGUAGES
The following guide will help students to choose the correct course. Beginners - for those with no or very little knowledge of the language. Beginners Continuation - for those with very little knowledge of the language. Improvers Level 1 - for those who have completed a beginners course of 1 years duration. Level 1 + - progressing on from Level 1. Improvers Level 2 - for those who are gaining a little more confidence possibly with two years study and can hold a conversation in the language. Level 2+ - progressing on from Level 2. Improvers Level 3 - for those who have a good knowledge of the language leading up to GCSE Intermediate Level 1 - equivalent to a GCSE level. Intermediate Level 2 - for those with a good level of the language - equivalent to a good GCSE level. Level 2+ - progressing on from Level 2. Intermediate Level 3 - for those who are post GCSE level with a good knowledge of the language. Level 3+ - progressing on from Level 3. Advanced - for students who are fluent in a language and would like to practise their conversation skills - the classes usually conducted solely in the language.

We are working in a fairly leisurely way through the Cambridge Latin Course, and expect to be starting Book 4, stage 29 or so. FEES AND CONCESSIONS Fees are shown alongside each course. Each fee includes an Administration fee of 6.00 We can give fee remission on the following categories, please get in touch with us if claim one of the following. Courses show two fee levels. 1st fee = full fee 2nd fee = for students who are in receipt of one of the following means tested benefits: Fee remission categories: 1. Job Seekers Allowance 2. Working Tax Credit 3. Housing Benefit/Council Tax Benefit 4. Income Support 5. Employment and Support Allowance (income based) 6. Unwaged dependant on above categories 1-5

Fee remission is not available for dayschools. Fee remission is limited to one course per person per term.

Students will need to provide up to date evidence of being in receipt of benefits. It is essential that you send a photocopy of the first two pages of your benefit book or documentary evidence of your entitlement to benefit. An enrolment cannot be accepted without this documentation if you are claiming fee remission. Please do not send your benefit book to us by post. Please note that students in receipt of DLA or Incapacity Benefit are not eligible for fee remission. UPHOLSTERY TWO DAY WORKSHOP Friday 28 June & Monday 1July 10.00 am - 3.00 pm Tutor: Ruth Brewin 40 This two-day workshop is for those who are interested in upholstery and would like to learn some techniques. Within the two days you should be able to upholster a stool, small box, a small chair or a drop in seat. You will need to bring along your project you would like to work on. Upholstery materials can be purchased from the tutor apart from foam but details will be supplied on where to obtain this from. No need to buy any tools or equipment as the tutor can supply for your use on the day. Pack your instruments, (strings, renaissance wind, recorders) and dont forget to bring a stand! Singers needed too (SATB) - you will need to be able to sight-read as the music of the great palaces and churches is sophisticated polyphony. We travel first to the Court of Bavaria in Munich to catch up with the incomparable Olando di Lassus and his visitor Andrea Gabrielli. Well play some dance music from streets, carnivals and celebrations as we travel on to Spain. Next we head up through France where women could sing on the stage, stop off in Antwerp where Susatos shop and publishing house At the sign of the crumhorn is thriving, before getting a boat to London where Tallis and Byrd (and many talented Italian immigrants) are serenading Queen Elizabeth. What is the Guildhouse?


The Percival Guildhouse is Rugbys Independent Centre for Adult Education and the Arts. It provides morning, afternoon and evening classes in a wide variety of non-vocational subjects, and a range of special events such as the popular Saturday day schools and art visits. It is a rare example in the Country of a centre with a full programme of non-vocational adult education. The Guildhouse is a registered charity. A board of volunteer trustees, the Executive Committee have responsibility for its governance. The trustees are elected by the Guildhouse membership at each annual general meeting. Day-to-day management, including administration and development of the academic programme, is carried out by a small team of employed staff, assisted by members of the Executive Committee. Class tutors are qualified professionals or recognised authorities in their subjects. Membership of the Guildhouse automatically includes anyone who enrols on a course, who belongs to a Guildhouse group or member organisation, who is a class tutor, or is a volunteer who helps and supports the Guildhouse in the furtherance of its work.
