Summer Internship Program 2013 Request for letter of recommendation

Dear Colleague,
The Max Planck Institute of Immunobiology and Epigenetics (MPI-IE) in Freiburg (Germany) offers several positions to students for 3-month long research internships in Summer 2013. Applicants are asked to forward this letter to two referees who can provide us with an insightful assessment about the candidates abilities to thrive in our program. Our selection system is highly competitive and we kindly ask you to give your frank opinion about the academic and personal qualities of the candidate. Please consider the following points:

Professional/academic qualities Is this person a leader? Is this person a strong team player? Is this person a keen analytical thinker? Is this person capable of conducting sophisticated research? Specific skills Strong communication skills? Fluency in English? Personal qualities Does this person get along with peers? Does this person have a good sense of humor? Past accomplishments What are the principal two or three accomplishments this person has achieved under your guidance? Weaknesses What are some points this person must address to advance his/her career? How well does this person learn from past mistakes? Future potential What do you believe this person is capable of achieving? Would you please be so kind to fill out the evaluation form on page 2 and to write a letter of recommendation (either on page 3 or on a separate sheet) and to return both directly to us as soon as possible by fax or e-mail. Please sign the documents and stamp them with your department/university/institution seal. Only letters of reference submitted from an institutional e-mail address will be considered. References from private e-mail accounts i.e. hotmail, yahoo, g-mail etc. will not be considered. Since all applications will be reviewed shortly after the application deadline ( 31 January 2013), please make sure that your reference arrives on time at the internship coordination office.
