A gustnado forms from very strong winds pouring out of a thunderstorm. Where these gustnadoes develop and gain momentum is right along the leading edge of these strong outflow winds. Its not a tornado because it is not connected to the rotating base of the severe thunderstorm. To most people it looks like a tornado because the rotating column of air at the surface is spinning picking up dust and debris like

To the untrained eye, it looks like a tornado but there are differences. A tornado is a violently rotating column of air connected to a severe thunderstorm that reaches down to the ground. Tornadoes can have damaging wind speeds of up to 300 miles per hour.

that they continue to support us so that we can continue to help out the community to have better Christmas' for the low income children of the colonias." When asked about this year's change of venue to the Adobe Horseshoe in the historic San Elizario plaza, Olivia responded, "I think it's cool because it's here in San Eli and our people can see the bikers who are working for them. Besides, we can show off the art community and the historic nature of the area."

Tavo, GrimLords founder and president, was also excited about the change. This year we had two registration stops and one main venue, the newly renovated Adobe Horseshoe. We think its a perfect venue for this event. Wed like to thank Mike from Three G promotions for providing us with the live music and the bands he brought: Synyster, Misunderstood, Remedy and Sancho Villa. We also had 3 Djs so we had continuous music from 10am on till we closed.

The time was also fortunate because the Art District was having their monthly art fair. So there was much for the bikers to do: party, socialize, ride the open countryside and view art and artists at work. This is meant to be a party for the bikers and the area. We wanted to show off what San Elizario has to offer. In fact, weve had a great response before we even started. Weve received help from other clubs, from the art community and from the community in general.

With the funds from this run, the organization will be buying and collecting toys for Christmas to give out to the needy families of the community from San Eli to the various area colonias. Last year's run funded the collection and distribution of 500 toys, 100 packages of food, 100 jackets, 300 candy bags and three pinatas.

AYUDA (Adults and Youth United Development Association) is a nonprofit organization based in San Elizario that serves low income families in a variety of methods. Olivia Figueroa, the current director, and a small staff of employees and volunteers run AYUDA. "The purpose of AYUDA is to help improve the quality of life for low income people in our community. We are working in all areas of El Paso county." The organization has a wide array of services. They arrange food donations to needy families via various county food pantries. They help find financing and help construction of new houses for people who qualify. They offer on-going health programs to educate people about health and nutrition issues. "We just had a health fair with 4 doctors who volunteered their services to give health screenings. We served around 500 people during one recent even in San Eli. Those are people that might not otherwise find this kind of help." They also look for alternative methods where the community can help itself. "We are working to educate people on the benefits of growing gardens in their own land using traditional farming methods. We already have 12 people who are growing gardens at their own homes. We even have our own community garden at the offices where we grow a variety of fruits and vegetables from pomegranates to broccoli"

Trickle of Wisconsin Rapids, Wis., was the Richard Petty of the asphalt short-track racing world, especially in the Midwest, where he won an estimated 1,000 feature races. But he also built quite a resume down in Pettys territory, both on the asphalt short tracks of the South and in the elite divisions of NASCAR, where he began racing at an age when many are retiring. Few races illustrate the career of Trickle, who died last Thursday of a self-inflicted gunshot wound at age 71, better than the inaugural World Crown 300 on Nov. 27, 1983, at Georgia International Speedway, now known as Gresham Motorsports Park. Legendary promoter Bob Harmon worked with track operator Rob Joyce to create the ultimate short-track race. Harmon drew in the top short trackers of the South, drivers like Ronnie Sanders, Jody Ridley, Gary Balough and Freddy Fryar, while Joyce used his connections with the American Speed Association to lure drivers from up North like

Then some NASCAR stars like Bobby Allison, Neil Bonnett and Darrell Waltrip, all of whom regularly mixed in some short-track racing with their activities in NASCAR, joined in, too. Trickle went against conventional wisdom and pitted for fresh tires fairly early, at Lap 123 of 300, while most waited until after the 200-lap mark to stop. But because he pitted early, when the rest stopped, he cycled into the lead and dominated the remainder of the race to collect a then-unheard-of payoff of $50,000. By comparison, in the fall Sprint Cup race at Atlanta Motor Speedway three weeks earlier, Bonnett collected far less, $36,975, for winning the Atlanta Journal 500. In Victory Lane, Harmons sidekick Bill Desmond placed a kings crown on Trickles head, prompting the driver to say: Im not a king. Im a race driver. And that he was. In 1989, at age 47, he was called in at the last minute to replace the injured Mike Alexander in the Stavola Brothers No. 84 Buick. Trickle took over at Rockingham, where he finished 13th, then came to Atlanta for the Motorcraft 500. While Darrell Waltrip won day, and when the final caution flag flew with 14 laps remaining, only Waltrip, Dale Earnhardt and Trickle were on the lead lap. Waltrip and Earnhardt pitted for fresh tires, but Trickles crew chief, Jimmy Fennig, now with Carl Edwards, left his driver on the track on older tires. Fresh tires soon prevailed, but Trickle still ended up with a stunning finish. Afterward, Trickle was asked how a 47-year-old driver, who smoked cigarettes in and out of his race car, drank beer to excess and was not accustomed to 500-mile races, could be in such good shape after a long afternoon of superspeedway racing. How many laps is this race? he asked. When told that it was 328, he responded: Heck, we run 400lappers back home all the time. Trickle went on to score top-five finishes in four of his first seven starts, and won Rookie of the Year. Although he never won at the Cup level in a points-paying race, he did win twice in the Nationwide Series, at Hickory Motor Speedway in 1997 and at Darlington in 1998, where, at age 56, he beat Dale Earnhardt Jr. to the checkered flag. Among the many drivers

Alan Kulwicki and even some much younger drivers, like Matt Kenseth and Johnny Sauter. He was tough, but he was fun, Martin said. He was just a very unique person. He was in his element, short-track racing, where he didnt have to look over his shoulder or worry about anything. Thats why he didnt come NASCAR racing when he might have and was young enough that he really could have gotten his feet planted firmly here. He was doing it his way. It was just as exciting for me getting to race against him as it was the first time I got to race with Richard Petty. Kenseth described Trickle as a legend, especially to racers like him from Wisconsin. Kenseth said he visited for nearly two hours with Trickle last summer at the Slinger Nationals, a short-track event Trickle helped create. He had a ton of common sense, and he was really smart. In his obituary, Trickles family said he had been suffering for some time with severe pain. A private funeral was planned, and the family asked that in lieu of flowers, donations be sent in his memory to: Victory Junction, 4500 Adams Way, Randleman, N.C. 27317..

RECALL

NOTEBOOK

Visit the map, flag a hazard to help spread the word and protect a rider. Triumph issues a recall for certain 2012-13 models Triumph Motorcycles (Triumph) is recalling certain model year 2012-2013 Speed Triple motorcycles manufactured June 2012 through January 2013. Due to the incorrect engagement of the neutral switch and gear selector drum, the neutral light may remain illuminated despite the motorcycle actually being in gear. The operator may think the motorcycle is in neutral while the motorcycle is in gear. This could lead to unintended movement of the motorcycle and a possible crash. Triumph will notify owners, and dealers will correct the engagement of the neutral switch and gear selector drum, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin by the end of May 2013. Owners may contact Triumph at 1-678-854-2010 for more information. Allstate rolls out an Interactive Rider Risk Map with eye toward safety

WHO: Three motorcyclists are killed at intersections every day in this country. Last year, Allstate Motorcycle asked its Facebook fans to help spread the message by identifying dangerous intersections for riders. More than 1,500 people answered the call, giving Allstate a wealth of useful information to help prevent motorcycle crashes. WHAT: Inspired by their responses, Allstate took a bold new step and created the Rider Risk MapSM a simple Facebook app that lets you flag risky areas anywhere on the map, letting riders see exactly what spots to be cautious of or avoid. Available on the Allstate Motorcycle Facebook page, the map is open to all who want to help Allstates mission of making the roads a safer place to ride. HOW: If you know of or have encountered a dangerous intersection on a ride visit the map, flag the spot and upload comments and a photo to help others know exactly what to look out for if theyre in the area. Riders can also flag blind curves, potholes and identify other hazards. The map will launch with the 1,500+ hazards Allstate Motorcycle Facebook fans previously identified. WHY: The Allstate Rider Risk Map is just another way Allstate is protecting riders through its Rider Protection Project. Once is Never Enough (O.N.E) was the first initiative launched for motorcycle awareness in 2009 when Allstate was able to successfully help install more than one hundred temporary motorcycle caution signs at dangerous intersections for riders across the country. The next milestone for the project was in 2012, when Allstate worked hand-in-hand with local governments to install the countrys first permanent, standardized Watch for Motorcycles signs in 16 cities. Legion Riders USO Run

Daniel Chavez wanted to personally address the participants of their run: "Thank you for supporting the USO and everything they do for soldiers."

The Legion Riders, made entirely of military veterans, are continually working for the El Paso community. Probably their biggest effort is their Thanksgiving turkey dinner giveaway in the colonias in east El Paso County. Last year, they served a package with a full turkey dinner for about 200 families. Some were even taken directly to the family's homes via a parade of Riders.

When asked what the USO meant to him, he was very appreciative of their efforts for soldiers. "I remember a social that they organized in Giebelstadt, Germany. They brought in singers and dancers. They had tents with soup, ice cream. They had places where you can play video games and others where you could take a nap. It was a nice feeling of being appreciated."

On their run, the Legion Riders had about 250 registered participants and raised $4800 specifically for the El Paso USO. Legion Rider Daniel Chavez, Army Ret., a 25 year veteran who served with the 82nd Airborne, spoke on the post's behalf: "We had a successful run and participation for all the El Paso posts. We even had Legion Riders come down from Arizona just for this run."

You can also opt to include first-party medical coverage on your automobile insurance policy, which covers your medical expenses (e.g., doctor and hospital bills) if they were incurred in an accident while operating your motorcycle.

"Auto insurers often offer motorcycle insurance coverage as either a stand-alone policy or as an endorsement to a personal automobile policy," said Michael Barry , vice president, Media Relations, at the I.I.I. U.S. Reps. Michael Burgess (R-Texas) and Tim Griffin (R-Ark.) are serving as co-chairmen of the Congressional Motorcycle Caucus for the new 113th Congress, the American Motorcyclist Association reports. The bi-partisan caucus, which has existed for many years, was formally recognized by the House for the new Congress. Official caucuses must register and be recognized at the start of every two-year Congress.

Congressional Motorcycle Caucus formed in U.S. House

"I look forward to growing the Motorcycle Caucus as the voice in Congress for America's more than 25 million motorcyclists," Griffin said. "As a rider, I recognize that there are many important issues affecting us, such as unreasonable limits on trail riding areas, the need for additional safety awareness, and ethanol mandates that harm motorcycle engines."

"We welcome the registration of the Motorcycle Caucus for the 113th Congress," Burgess said. "Having previously served as the Caucus chair, I welcome Congressman Tim Griffin as co-chair. We, along with other congressional members, will once again provide a platform and a voice here in Washington for motorcycle enthusiasts and our safety."

Burgess said that he was looking forward to working with Griffin on the Caucus.

"We look forward to working with our old friends in the Congressional Motorcycle Caucus, as well as new members who join, to help protect and promote the motorcycling lifestyle," Allard said.

vice president for government relations and a former U.S. senator and representative from Colorado. "The Congressional Motorcycle Caucus is made up of dedicated members of Congress who ensure that motorcyclists aren't forgotten on Capitol Hill. Reps. Burgess and Griffin have proven that they are true friends of motorcycling.

Caucus Member and House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee Vice Chairman John Duncan said, "Motorcycling is important to my district and to me personally. I look forward to continuing to work with the co-chairs and other members to highlight the need for motorcycle safety and to promote the use of motorcycles and scooters as fun, fuel efficient transportation options for many Americans." The CMC includes members of Congress from both sides of the aisle who are committed to advancing motorcycling and improving the safety of motorcyclists. At the start of each Congress, all caucuses must be reestablished and recognized formally by the House. This is the fourth consecutive congressional session that the CMC has been organized.

"It's wonderful to have Reps. Burgess and Griffin leading the Congressional Motorcycle Caucus," said Wayne Allard, AMA

The caucus is made up of members of Congress who are passionate about motorcycling and who work to promote the interests of motorcyclists.

On Friday, May 17th, the annual Run to the Wall ride from California to the Vietnam War Memorial in Washington DC passed through the El Paso area. The run culminates in a huge gathering of more than 300,000 riders in the nations capital, all honoring the memory of those who have passed away in battle and those who never returned. On this day, many veterans and riders from veterans groups like Rolling Thunder, Legion Riders and others saw them by with flags waving over Lee Trevino St.
