4.12.2. CW mode power level requirements

4.12.2.1.DOCSIS Requirements for CW mode 1) A CMTS or EQAM MUST provide a test mode of operation, for out-of-service testing, configured for N channels, but generating one-CW-per-channel, one channel at a time at the center frequency of the selected channel; all other of the combined channels are suppressed. One purpose for this test mode is to support one method for testing the phase noise requirements of Table A-2. As such, the generation of the CW test tone SHOULD exercise the signal generation chain to the fullest extent practicable, in such manner as to exhibit phase noise characteristics typical of actual operational performance; for example, repeated selection of a constellation symbol with power close to the constellation RMS level would seemingly exercise much of the modulation and up-conversion chain in a realistic manner. The test mode MUST be capable of generating the CW tone over the full range of Center Frequency in Table A-2. 2) A CMTS or EQAM MUST provide a test mode of operation for out-of-service testing, generating one-CWper-channel, at the center frequency of the selected channel, with all other N 1 of the combined channels active and containing valid data modulation at operational power levels. One purpose for this test mode is to support one method for testing the phase noise requirements of Table A-2. As such, the generation of the CW test tone SHOULD exercise the signal generation chain to the fullest extent practicable, in such manner as to exhibit phase noise characteristics typical of actual operational performance. For example, a repeated selection of a constellation symbol, with power close to the constellation RMS level, would seemingly exercise much of the modulation and up conversion chain in a realistic manner. For this test mode, it is acceptable that all channels operate at the same average power, including each of the N 1 channels in valid operation, and the single channel with a CW tone at its center frequency. The test mode MUST be capable of generating the CW tone over the full range of Center Frequency in Table A-2.

4.12.3. CW mode power test procedure

4.12.3.1.For each combination of frequency, power, and number of QAMs measure the CW tone power, and the block power. Th is test will verify the ability of the modulator to generate modulated carriers in the specified range with distortion energy emissions tha t conform to the required level in the Data over cable interface specification, Table 6-5 (Document reference DRFI). The notation dBc denotes decibels relative to the strongest carrier in th e channel block.

4.16.3. DRFI-05.0 Instructions for Margin to PSA Noise Floor

The worst-case measurements (minimum TX Levels) for, Quad and Eight QAM transmission Noise Floor will be less th an 10dB from the Instrument Noise Floor, in some test cases. Th is requires a correction to the result, to factor out the addition of the instrument noise floor, with the BEQ noise floor being measured. There is also a calibration for the Tester Signal Path a ttenuation over the frequency range. The DRFI DOCSIS Downstream Tester makes these calibrations and adjustments as part of the automated test. 4.16.3.1.PSA Noise Floor Margin to Min TX Noise Floor Requirements

4.18. DRFI-08.0 PHASE NOISE & CW TEST MODE

4.18.1. DRFI-08.0 Test Conditions Introduction:
Th is test verifies th a t the EQAM downstream phase noise meets the DRFI compliant device specifications stated in table 6-3 of the DRFI specifica tion, and in the RF, Safety and EMC requirements for Korean market specification. In order to measure phase noise, an EQAM must provide a test mode of operation, for out-of-service testing, generating one-CW-per channel, one channel at a time, at the center frequency of the selected channels. This test also verifies such ability of a DRFI compliant device. In the test mode, the EQAM generates one-CW carrier per channel, one channel at a time. The CW carrier is located at the center frequency of the selected channel. The other N-1 channels in the block are selectable to be either all off or all normal

4.18.1.1.Run each test at -5, 22, and 55 C ambient temperatures. 4.18.1.2.Use DOCSIS Test Mode MIB to set the TX output into the required test mode for each test. cwOnOthersOff(5), cwOnOthersNormal(6)

Let fb represent the nomina l specif ied downstream symbol rate and let f m represent the nominal Master Clock rate (10.24 MHz). Wit h the Downstream Symbol Clock locked to the Master Clock, the following equation MUST hold: fb = f m*M/N Wit h the Master Clock locked to the Downstream Symbol Clock, the following equation MUST hold: fm' = fb *N/M Note th a t M and N in the M/N ratio table are unsigned integer va lues, each represent able in 16 bits and result in a value of fb ' or fm th at is not more th an 1 ppm from its specified nominal value. The standard devia tion of the timing error of the EQAM RF symbol clock, referenced to the DTI Server Master Clock, MUST be less th an 1.5 ns measured over 100

seconds.

4.20.3. DRFI-10.0 Test Procedure

4.20.3.1. Use the Symmetricom Engineering Development Source and connect its 10.24MHz output to the reference input of t he TSC5115A timing analyzer. Connect the BBQ Symbol Clock to the Signal Input on the TSC5115A timing analyzer. Enter 10,240,000.00000 as the reference frequency to th e TSC5115A timing analyzer.
