The League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) The League of United Latin American Citizens, (LULAC) was formed circa 1929 to promote justice in Civil Rights for Mexican Americans/Hispanics. The purpose of LULAC was to form a political voice for the Mexican American people. It was the Mexican Americans who founded and spearheaded this organization to provide a voice to the Hispanic community that during those times was voiceless in the state legislatures, the courts, congress and the political democratic process. LULAC has evolved throughout the years as an organization that represents a great number of Hispanics in the United States. It is a national organization with state chapters, local districts and local councils that receives thousands of dollars in donations from corporations, individuals and grant money from all sorts of entities. This past week there was supposed to be a State Convention where officers for the State LULAC organization were to be voted in. According to the reports in the local press and media it was a fiasco to say the least. The leaders of the organization fearing a loss of leadership defaulted and ruffed out the candidates that were running with threats of arrest. What a shame! We have always heard that it has been said that all you have to do is leave the Mexicans alone and they themselves will hurt each other well this was true this past week. There are those that fear the loss of power so much that they are willing to try any tactic to frustrate change even if its for the betterment of the Hispanic people. It is obvious that the people in control did not want this State Convention to go forward because they feared that the new blood would win. So, chaos is created

to muddy the water and make it look as if it was the new candidates who are in the wrong when it is the opposite. Es una verguerza! When was the last time you have heard of LULAC speaking out for the downtrodden: the wrongfully accused, the undocumented immigrant, and the injustices that occur to our people? Why is it that we have no voice in the media? Where are our leaders of this organization that are supposed to speak for those who need help with their civil rights? I always ask if you were beaten or I was beaten illegally by a police officer where will you turn to for help. Where is the LULAC that is supposed stand for our civil rights? There is no doubt that change is needed and change is coming! But, LULAC did file a lawsuit against Domingo Garcia, a candidate for National President of LULAC in Dallas, Texas to keep him from running as President of National LULAC. But, LULAC spends money for their lawyers in this type of lawsuits against our own people. Is this the purpose of the LULAC organization that was created in 1929? Is this the type of LULAC that you want? Can you see the damage it does to our Hispanic Culture? The national convention will be held in Las Vegas, Nevada in July 2013. What can we expect from the leaders? The same as what occurred in San Antonio, Texas?

We have critical issues at hand with Immigration, discrimination that still exists, education funding, high rate of incarcerations, voting and the political power to gain respect. We have no time for the nonsense of a few in the leadership roles of LULAC and its time that the members do what is right and vote their conscious in the upcoming National Convention for the sake of the Hispanic culture and those who intent to disrupt the political democratic process of the elections should remember that a tyrant according to Wikipedia is a ruler of a cruel and oppressive character who is an absolute ruler unrestrained by law or constitution, and/or one who has usurped (usurped means an illegitimate or controversial claimant to power) illegitimate sovereignty.
