Children Really Count

It doesnt take a rocket scientist or a genius physicist to understand Albert Einsteins statement: Not everything that counts can be counted. We believe in quality, as well as quantity. Jesus told Peter to feed and lead the little lambs. He also pictured the Good Shepherd as having counted 99 sheep, but realized that one was lost. Every child in our ministry matters. This is why we spend much effort and time to have a Vacation Bible School each summer. Our theme this year is Facing Fear, Trusting God, teaching elementary Dr. Hayes Wicker age children from the book of Acts. The daily themes are: Dare to Change, Dare to Speak Up, Dare to Believe, Dare to Senior Pastor Stand Strong, and Dare to Trust. But we cannot count all that God is doing with the seed of Bible truth which is sown, watered, and cultivated in times like this. As our children go through changes, it is increasingly apparent that Fifth Grade is a stand-alone age group and a unique transition time between childhood and adolescence. We have experimented with grouping them with middle schoolers over the last few years. Jason and Ashley Dean have agreed to give special attention to developing a unique 5th grade program, in addition to his teaching and coaching responsibilities at First Baptist Academy. Jason and his brother, Terry, are wellknown in Florida. They came up through our church and played football on the University of Florida national championship team in 1996. Jasons secular work experience included being a Claim Representative with State Farm Insurance and a manager of Planet Fitness in Birmingham, Alabama. He has a B.A. in Business Administration and 52 hours toward his Master of Divinity Degree at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. He has an excellent rapport with youth of all ages and he desires for 5th graders to build a solid Bible foundation and a Christian worldview. Jesus said, Let the little children come to me for the kingdom of Heaven belongs to such of these (Matthew 19:14). The Barna Research Group in a sampling of over 4,200 young people and adults, found that people from age 5-13 have a 42% probability of accepting Christ. From the ages of 14-18, there is just a 4% likelihood of doing so, while adults ages 19-death have a 6% probability of making that choice. Of course, God is sovereign and continues to save many older adults in our First Baptist Ministry. But these studies indicate that resistance to the gospel tends to build up as our pride and self-sufficiency increase with age. Many of Christianitys greatest leaders were saved at an early age. Matthew Henry, the great Bible teacher, was 11. Jonathan Edwards, the famed preacher and theologian, was seven. Isaac Watts, the hymn writer, was nine. Corrie Ten Boom was saved at five. William Booth, founder of the Salvation Army, was 15. Great Bible teacher, Harry Ironside, was 13. Missionary E. Stanley Jones, at eight, saw a picture of a tiger standing beside a small Indian boy along with the caption, Who will tell me about Jesus? Jones said, I will. Will you and your family count for Christ?

Adult Summer Study

That the World May Know
Join us each Wednesday through August at 6:30pm in the Worship Center as we worship God in song, prayer, teaching, and discussion. We will hear the amazing DVD & teaching series by Ray Vander Laan, That the World May Know, and related teaching by our church leaders. Join with your Bible and Life Group at a table, or with other new friends, as we grow in community and our walk with Christ. YOUR WALK - GETTING INTO THE WORD DVD Series: See the Bible come alive with Ray Vander Laan Biblical Teaching: Hear the truth from our Bible teachers Table Discussion: Share with others about the teaching YOUR WALK - GETTING OUTSIDE YOURSELF Receive brief assignments to assist you in being intentional and missional in your lifestyle during the coming week A personal weekly video explanation by our Senior Pastor We will walk with renowned Bible teacher, Ray Vander Laan, as he takes us round trip to ancient times, places, customs, and back again with on-location filming in Israel, Turkey, and other parts of the Bible lands. We will learn how in the desert of our culture, we can prepare the way for the Lord, as the ancient Essenes attempted. We learn from John the Baptist about how to be strong in spirit, and from Christs disciples discover the passion of being like the Rabbi. Lets run the race set before us as we follow in His footprints.

News
Jason & Ashley Dean both grew up in Naples, and were actively involved in the First Baptist youth ministry. Jason graduated from Barron Collier and attended the University of Florida. He was a walk-on football player there and a member of the 1996 National Championship team. After graduating, he worked and lived in Birmingham, AL. However, the Lord was at work in both Jason and Ashleys lives, and He brought Jason back to Naples in the summer of 2009. He began working as an assistant coach with the FBA football team. It was then that he met Ashley in the spring of 2010. They began dating and were married on April 30, 2011. The Deans started praying together as to how God may use them as a newly married couple. The Lord helped them to realize they both had a passion to minister to children. God has provided an opportunity to invest in the hearts and minds of 5th graders at FBCN and both are looking forward to serving in this capacity. Ed & Mary Lee Heim are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary on June 8, 2013. Congratulations!

Join us on Sunday night, June 23 at 7:00pm in the Chapel for a Night of Prayer and Praise. We will worship through song and have a season of prayer for our nation at this crossroads in our history. Lets join together in seeking the Lord on behalf of our country. Mark your calendars for this special night. High School Summer Camp will be July 29-August 2 for 9th-12th grade. Cost is $350 for recreation or $370 for missions. $60 will hold your spot. Register online at fbcn. org/hsm. It is our desire that every student be able to attend camp.
