Ensure the PDA is kept in its leather case when not in use. Do not keep your stylus, SD cards or other objects loose inside the leather case. Where possible avoid the use close to any chemicals, abrasives or fluids. Ensure the battery never runs out completely. Regularly backup any work or files from the PDA. Clear the memory of any unused running programs for better performance

Once connected you can then use the Explore option (shown below) in Microsoft ActiveSync to browse the files on your PDA, also allowing you to move files between devices.

4) Select which items you wish to synchronise, and then click Next (shown below). Note - ActiveSync provides an ideal opportunity to backup your files, and it is strongly recommended where possible to also choose Files from the list below.

To turn off, simply press the power button again. When turned off, the PDAs still run any open programs in a power saving mode, and by turning the PDA back on, it will instantly display the previously displayed image/program. Interactions are controlled by single taps of the stylus to the areas of the touch screen. To display menus, and further options, tap and hold the stylus on the screen for approximately 2 seconds (This is similar to the right click action on a standard computer).
3) If you wish to only setup a standard partnership with one computer, then ensure I want to synchronize with only this computer is selected and click next.

2.2 Navigation
Microsoft ActiveSync provides two types of partnerships, Standard and Guest. Standard partnership allows you to synchronise your contacts, notes, e-mails and calendar entries with your computer, however this requires Microsoft Outlook to do so (Outlook 2002 is supplied with the PDAs). Guest partnerships allows a basic connection where you can copy files between your computer and PDA. To choose a partnership: 1) Once you have installed ActiveSync, and then connected up you PDA, your computer will prompt you to select a partnership type (as shown below).

The Today Screen The Today screen is the main home screen on a PDA, and is comparable to the desktop used in standard Windows computers. Windows Mobile similarly uses a start bar to launch all its programs, and this is located in the top left corner of the PDA.

The Start Menu To access the Start Menu, simply tap the Start text or the Windows flag once. The start menu is divided into 3 sections: The upper section contains customisable shortcuts for up to 7 programs. The middle section will display your 4 most regularly used programs The lower section contains permanent links to Programs, Settings, and the Help section.
9 ActiveSync
Microsoft ActiveSync is the software provided to connect your PDA to your home computer. ActiveSync allows you to synchronise and backup any files, work and contacts from your PDA to a PC.
9.1 Installation
To connect your PDA to your Computer: Note- Do Not connect your PDA to your computer before installing ActiveSync 1) Use the supplied CD in your PDA box and insert into your PCs CD drive.

2) Run the CD and from the main menu, Click Start Here, then Install ActiveSync, and then follow the on-screen instructions. 3) When prompted, connect the PDA to your computer via the provided USB cable (as shown below)

2) Once the camera is started, a live preview of your image will be shown on the screen. To take a picture or video:

3 Settings
To access the settings menu, go to Start/Settings, this will display the settings menu which is separated into 3 tabs, these are Personal, System and Connections (as shown below).
Take Picture Tap desired tab to change. Personal controls your interactions with the PDA and allows you to change the colour scheme, menus and similar features from this tab. The system tab controls settings on how your PDA works, and information such as time, memory, power etc. Changes to settings in the Connections tab are not recommended unless you are aware of what you are doing.

9) Once a request to connect to another PDA has been made, the receiving PDA will receive a prompt to Accept or Deny this request (as shown below). The receiving PDA will need to click Accept, to allow your PDA to browse their files. Please note you should not accept requests from devices you are not familiar with.
10) Once the request has been accepted, you are then able to browse files on the connected PDA. To retrieve a file, tap and hold the file or folder, then tap Get File from the pop-up menu.
3.1 Date/Time
To change the date and time, go to Start/Settings, tap on the System tab, and then tap on Clocks & Alarms Icon. You can then change the time and date by tapping on the appropriate arrows to the right of the date & time (Shown below).

3.3 Password
A password can be set to protect your PDA from unauthorised use. To set a password, go to Start/Settings, tap on the System tab, and then tap on Password Icon. Tick the Prompt if device is unused for box, and select a reasonable time period, then choose your password, and tap Ok to complete.
3.4 Backlight
The strength of the backlight will affect the rate of battery usage. To change the backlight, go to Start/Settings, tap on the System tab, and then tap on Backlight Icon. Use the slider to choose the most suitable level of brightness, and tap Ok to complete. 7) Tap the Available Bluetooth device you wish to connect to and then tap Next. Finally tap Finish to complete setup for your Bluetooth Shortcut (shown below). 8) Any Bluetooth shortcuts are displayed in the My Shortcuts area in the Bluetooth Manager. To use a shortcut, tap and hold the shortcut and then tap Connect from the pop-up menu.

3.5 Battery
5) Return to the Today Screen, tap the Bluetooth icon, and then tap Bluetooth Manager, this will display the screen as shown below 6) Tap New in the bottom left to create a new Bluetooth Shortcut, and then select Browse files on a remote device from the following menu, as shown below. To view how much battery power your PDA has, go to Start/Settings, tap on the System tab, and then tap on Power Icon. The Control tab contains settings which allows you to change the amount of time before the PDA turns off automatically when not in use.
3.6 Menus
To change which programs appear in the first section of the start menu, go to Start/Settings, and select the Menus icon from the Personal tab. You can now un-select programs, and select new programs for your shortcut menu (shown below). There is a limit of 7 program shortcuts allowed.

3.7 Memory
To view the memory settings for your PDA, go to Start/Settings, tap on the System tab, and then tap on Memory Icon The Main tab displays an overall view of the memory status of the PDA. The slider space will allow you to allocate more space to storage. However this is not advisable as you will slow down all your programs. PDAs operate differently from PCs in that programs don't close automatically, they always run in the background. To close a program, you need to tap the Running Programs tab, select the desired program, and then tap Stop.
3) Tap the Bluetooth Settings option from the menu on the Today Screen, and then the Accessibility Tab. Ensure the options are set as shown below. It is recommended you change the Device Name to your name for identification purposes.
4) Tap the Services tab, then tap the File Transfer option. Ensure at least the Authorization Required option is checked, so no user can access your PDA unknown. Authentication (Passkey) is optional, and would require both PDA users to have knowledge of a 4-digit passkey. Tap Ok to complete.

3) Ensure you tick the boxes of all the data areas you wish to backup. Tap Ok when done, and then tap Store. Finally tap Continue to confirm you wish to backup to the SD Card. The PDA will then take a few minutes to backup you work, at this point you should avoid using other programs on the PDA
Restoring from backup To restore from backup, firstly launch FSCBackup, by going to Start/Programs and then tap on FSCBackup. Tap the Restore tab, select SDMMCard as the storage medium, and then tap Restore. If you wish to only restore part of your files, you can by, tapping the grey box, and just selecting the desired data types to be restored.
4.2 Connection
Part 2 Connecting to the Wireless If all the steps in Part 1 have been followed, then your wireless should be configured correctly. To use the wireless: 9) Tap the wireless icon (bottom right), and then tap "Turn Wireless ON", shown below. When in a wireless area, you will be presented with the option of connecting to a wireless network (or possibly multiple wireless networks). 10) First select which wireless network you wish to connect to:

If these arrows are displayed with a cross as shown below, then you are not connected to the wireless.

Accessing the LOOXstore. Accessing the LOOXstore is best done using File Explorer, go to Start/Programs and then tap File Explorer. From File Explorer, tap the arrow to the right of the folder name (top left of the screen), and then tap My Device (shown bottom left). From the My Device view (shown bottom right), you can now access the LOOXstore area. To transfer files from My Documents, use the tap and hold function, and then select Copy, navigate to the LOOXstore as just explained, then use the tap and hold function, and select Paste.
Are you in an area covered by wireless? To check this see if a teacher or pupil in the same area can access the Internet successfully. If they too are suffering problems you are most likely in a Wireless blackspot, and would then need to move to an area with wireless coverage. Is the sites Internet working? This will most likely be the case if all of the PDAs, and computers within the site cannot access the internet. If all of the above have been checked thoroughly and the PDA is still failing to connect, then: Check the Internet configuration, and proxy settings.

To do this, please follow the steps 1-8 in section 5.1, especially ensuring that the PDA has connected using the correct network settings. If all of the above have been checked thoroughly, and the PDA is still failing to connect, then: Check then internet configuration, and proxy settings. To do this, please follow the steps 1-8 in Part 1 of the guide, especially ensuring that the PDA has connected using the correct network settings. To check & then change the network settings in use: A) Go to Start/Settings/ B) This will display the Connections and tap on screen below Network Cards

5 Backing Up Data
It is essential that data on your PDA is backed up regularly to prevent against any risk of losing work. The PDA will lose all of its data if the battery runs down completely, but this shouldnt be a problem if you keep regular backups and ensure the PDA is charged when needed. The PDAs are your responsibility, and therefore it is your important that you ensure your work is backed up. There are a number of different methods to backup and you should ideally adopt a number of these methods as a safeguard. If you dont do this you will lose ALL YOUR WORK! C) Tap the name of the network you are connected to in order to display its settings, as shown below.
d) Ensure the correct Connects to settings are set. Remember to use: The Internet when connecting to a home, or a similar personal network, or Work connecting through a school or council owned wireless network.

5) Check the PDA has picked up a valid IP address. To do this: c) Tap the Loox WLAN Wireless Adapter text, to display the further options screen shown below. b) Tap the Network Adapters tab, to display the screen shown below. d) Ensure that Use Serverassigned IP address is selected, and that the IP address is in a valid range (Either starting with a 10. or a 192. address). If not then navigate to the Today Screen, disable, and then re-enable the wireless using the wireless icon, shown below.
