CrossFitters train for the unknown and unknowable with an understanding that what they do inside the box prepares them for anything the world throws at them outside of it. But elite fitness doesn't guarantee personal safety. CrossFit requires a certain set of skills both physically and psychologically -- So does self-defense. "If CrossFit is the study of human movement," Blauer said, "CrossFit Defense is the study of human movement as it relates to violence, fear and aggression." Like learning a proper clean or double-under, there are certain functional movements and processes, inherent to self-protection, that can help forge elite awareness and defensive/protective skills. CrossFit teaches us that "the needs of Olympic athletes and our grandparents differ by degree not kind." CrossFit Defense is similar in that the mindset and awareness methodologies of a SWAT operator and a stay-at-home mom differ by degree not kind. Both need fear management skills appropriate to their arena, both need to have a built-in understanding of what they are fighting for - their directive. Both need to understand, that their body already knows a lot about protecting itself and is going to do certain things in a dangerous situation, trained or not. Like CrossFit, CrossFit Defense is for everyone.

Coach Blauer has created a physiologic and instinct-based system that is the seamless interface between the hard-charged CrossFit protocol and our ingrained self-defense system. This extraordinary course teaches the skills that multiply the value of hard-earned CrossFit PRs with personal-defense applications built around the functional fitness effort - and let's face it, there would be no better time to hit a PR than when you are protecting yourself or your family from danger. CrossFit Defense uses that foundation and combines the tenacity of the CrossFit athlete with the specific motor skills needed for personal defense. This results in a course designed to not only take your CrossFit experience to the next level but also to teach you the essential tools for surviving a violent ambush. You'll learn how squats and box jumps can create explosive knees, how wall ball and push-ups translate to explosive palm and forearm strikes. Like CrossFit itself, CrossFit Defense is designed for universal scalability, making it the perfect application for any committed individual regardless of experience. Load and intensity can be scaled without changing the programming. Coach Blauer's S.P.E.A.R. System is the only personal-defense system in the world based on your body's physiological response to danger - what your body wants to do prior to any training. Remember: elite fitness does not necessarily guarantee personal safety, but fitness fused with the advanced skills of personal defense creates a formidable combination. This one-day course is geared towards the CrossFitter who is looking to increase his or her awareness and personal-defense skills. Taking the course will provide participants with the essential mindset, skills and drills, which they will be able to use immediately. The CrossFit Defense Course will teach participants to: Detect and avoid danger by improving awareness and make practical tactical choices regarding personal safety. Understand the relationship of the extensor muscles and core stabilization as it pertains to personal defense. Learn fundamental S.P.E.A.R. System drills and tactics. Apply core-to-extremity principles for personal defense. Use CrossFit movements that mirror simple and effective combative movements Learn how to use and incorporate common CrossFit equipment to develop combative skills.
