Individual Supports and Self Management

What service providers can learn from the Western Australian experience of individualised budgets and service supports

JFA Purple Orange and Community Living Project Inc. invite you to attend an interactive workshop session on individualised supports and self management. There has been growing interest, both nationally and internationally, for people to have greater control over the design, planning and delivery of their supports. Since 1988, the Local Area Coordination (LAC) program in Western Australia has been supporting people living with disability through individualised funding. LAC is now moving to the next phase of its development through the My Way project. Drawing on stories from WA, the workshop will focus on choice and control, individualised and person-centred support, community inclusion and flexibility for people living with disability. Given the take-up of WAs LAC approach at a national level through the NDIS, this event is a good opportunity for people to explore how the role works with individualised budgets - the benefits, the challenges and what organisations need to think about and be prepared for. About the Presenter The workshop will be led by Bronia Holyoak who worked as a LAC Local Area Coordinator and manager for more than 15 years. In March 2012, Bronia founded Valued Lives, a new Western Australian organisation committed to enabling people to self-direct their own supports and services to the extent they desire.
