    INTRODUCTION

Congratulations on your first step to become a notary public in New York State. In this book, you will find all the necessary resources needed to pass the New York notary public exam. The content of this book was developed by professionals that possess extensive knowledge in notary public laws. By analyzing past-administered exams, they identified the items that predict success on the exam and assembled the outlines of laws that govern those questions. These rules of law determine the answers to the questions tested on the exam. We’ll take you through all the laws, statutes, and legal terms. Please note that they are unofficial and paraphrased in simple English so that they are easier to read. We’ll also give you the opportunity to test your knowledge with true or false questions after every law.

This book is meant to complement the official NYS Division of Licensing Services booklet, Notary Public Licensing Law. Please read the official publication together with this book so that you can conquer the NY notary public exam.

The New York notary public license law booklet can be found on the official New York State Department of State website:

    www.dos.ny.gov/licensing/lawbooks/notary.pdf

After you have studied all the content of this book multiple times, you are ready to take on the 3 practice tests. Each practice test contains 40 multiple-choice questions. Set aside 1 hour for each practice test.

    Note

Where gender pronouns appear in this booklet, they are meant to refer to both male and female persons.
