Astrology as practiced today is geocentric or earth centered.

Geocentric astrolo gy is a view or charting of our solar system as seen from the perspective of the earth. We could equally imagine a Mars- or Saturn-based perspective and viewpoi nt. There is an increasing awareness, in these times we are living, of the value of a holistic or whole-system approach, whether it be our ecological system or our solar system. Where we consider the entire solar system as a unit, we are sp eaking of a sun-centered or heliocentric perspective; equally inclusive of the p articular viewpoints of all of the planets within that system. As astrologers we will inquire as to the use and value of this heliocentric appr oach. We can cast a chart for a birth moment as viewed heliocentrically and have an additional perspective for use with our mundane or geocentric natal chart. If you have not had the opportunity to investigate heliocentric astrology, then you are used to approaching your Self and the questions you may have concerning that Self through the geocentric natal chart. What you may not realize is how sp ecialized the Earth perspective of the solar system is; that is, perfectly suite d for some areas of investigate, but less flexible or well suited for others. An analogy would be the existence and use of various technical languages. For inst ance, we might find the language of mathematics most convenient to express the v arious operations involving numbers. It is not that we could not somehow work ou r everyday language to express these operations, but simply that the language of mathematics is more convenient for this purpose. The helio and geo systems repr esent two ways of talking or considering the same event. Each system is a perspe ctive involving the very same planets, at the very same instant in time, yet eac h system is more properly suited for specific areas of discussion. If you have b een using only the geocentric system of astrology for all of your needs, then yo u have before you a fascinating experience. You will discover that certain quest ions and areas of interest, over which you may have labored for some results, wo rks for you quite naturally when heliocentrically considered. What are these are as? Astrologers who have investigated heliocentric astrology are in general agreemen t as to the relationship between the geo and the helio natal chart. The geocentr ic chart, with its houses and ascendant, etc., is primarily a charting of the pe rsonality and circumstances in which the individual is involved and finds himsel f. The helio natal chart is more representative of the kind or type of individua l working with and through a given personality. It is only in fairly recent time s that we have been concerned and able to distinguish that one inner self, which we can agree we share, into basic kinds of archetypes of self. Astrology has been primarily concerned with the description and understanding of our personality -- what is called person-centered or humanistic astrology. The inner self, an experience common to all men, was not experienced as consisting o f kinds or archetypes until the rise of modern depth psychology. We were primari ly able to measure and work with the outer personality and specific circumstance s of the individual -- the Self, but in general, it had not occurred to us to di stinguish within that self the various kinds or types of self. It is these kinds or archetypes of the individual for which heliocentric astrology is ideally sui ted. Astrologers had labored to represent the inner self through the geocentric approach. The result of this labor has largely been a very intellectual process of psychological description understood by the very few and leaving the main bod y of astrologers largely unmoved. Perhaps the most remarkable achievement of mod ern astrology has been the development and refinement of our technique by such s chools of astrology as the cosmobiologists: John Addey, Charles Jayne, E. Johndr o, etc. This same technique has brought about a crisis within the rank and file astrologers. On the one hand, it has directly contributed to the precipitation o f astrology and its emergence, finally, as a formal discipline that will have to be accepted by the "scientific" modern world. This seems good.

On the other hand, this technique has driven a wedge between those astrologers o f a more scientific persuasion and those who have not the ability or the interes t in this form of approach. This advanced technique appears to promise a future only to those astrologers who can successfully make the transition to this more formal approach. The main body of astrologers contains a great number who will n ot, or who cannot, make this transition. What then is the future of this body of astrologers? It is my considered opinion, and I believe a true opinion, that he liocentric astrology is a vehicle by definition inclusive of the geocentric appr oach and able to contain and occupy those astrologers not interested in question of technique. Here is a very graphic form of astrology accessible both to the i ntuitive, as well as the reasonable astrologer. The investigation of the heliocentric approach is a refreshing and broadening ex perience and one capable of bringing to the geocentric approach some relief. Wha t is perhaps hard for those not initiated into heliocentric astrology is the und erstanding that here is not one more technique or method to learn and use in the manipulation of the geocentric chart, but rather simply a more inclusive view - an overview of what the geocentric chart is representing. It cannot but help t o increase our awareness to compare the two types of charts for a specific birth time. At this time, when we are finally realizing our geocentric astrology throu gh a workable or more precise technique, what more logical point in time for the emergence of a more inclusive or general approach. Is this not the way life wor ks? Just about the time we finally master a subject . . . we graduate? There is a celebration now going on as all of the various technical approaches to astrolo gy join hands and flow together. My message here is that a necessary correlation for this to happen is the emergence of a holistic and more inclusive form of as trology. The first step in this process would be an astrology of our entire sola r system, and that is a heliocentric astrology: an astrological system that is b y definition inclusive of our geocentric approach. If this is a dawning, it has to be the sun that is coming up. The heliocentric chart when used with the geocentric chart is the obvious compan ion and describes clearly that information long sought for by modern geocentric astrology. Here is the general type of configuration, in effect, for the entire system at the time of birth. Heliocentric astrology is itself the picture or gra ph or archetype that many modern forms of descriptive psychology have attempted to put into words. Here is a picture of the inner self that can be absorbed and considered by all manner of astrologers. With an understanding of the basic patt ern of our system, we can more usefully move to the geocentric chart for the par ticular circumstances of personality, in and through which this type of individu ality will work. Pervious to this time, we have had to determine all of this usi ng only the geocentric chart. A fine analogy to the difficulties involved in suc h an inquiry is that of making sense out of our personal life without going to t he center and first learning to know of God and our deeper Self. Once we underst and our center, what we are within our personality, we can take up the circumsta nces and difficulties inherent in personal existence with confidence and realiza tion of this person we are. Helio astrology works for you and you do not work fo r it. There is the opportunity for those of your who are technicians to investigate an d develop the technique of geo/helio comparison. There is obviously a very preci se relationship between these two perspectives. A relationship that can be measu red and interpreted.

Heliocentric - Measurements based upon the Sun as the central point of reference or observation; Sun-centered. Heliocentric System - The system in which cosmographic coordinates are given on

the assumption that the Sun is at its center. It is a realistic approach. Geocentric - The Earth as the centre of observation and influence. Astrological aspects are geocentric, as they relate to the Earth. Geocentric System - The conception of the universe with Earth as its center. It is the system based on the pre-Galilean view of the stellar world. This unrealis tic view is opposed to the Heliocentric System The present day Ephemeris's provi de coordinates of stellar relationships as seen from Earth. ----------------------------------------------------------------------

The Difference Between Heliocentric and Geocentric Astrology Readings Posted by seo_pg on September 28th, 2011 1digg In science, we have been taught that the earth rotates around its axis and revol ves around its orbit. However, we are not really feeling this as we are astrolog y readingstationary within the earth. But regardless of this, people still belie ve that the heavens have such influences on human behavior. These behaviors and experiences have developed into astrological patterns and these have been handed down from generation to generation. And these patterns, in turn, became the bas is of human observation and were geocentric (geo=earth +centric + centered) or e arth centered. Although astronomy and astrology are both in agreement to the ear th-centered information, this is still in contrast to the fact that the Sun is t he center of the solar system while all other planets orbit around it. As we have been taught that we live in a heliocentric solar system which means t he sun is the center, we are still bound to our observations of an earth-centere d system. So, how do we reconcile the statements of science against common pract ice? Astrology and astronomy have long been advocates of a geocentric (earth-cen tered) system. While in reality, we live in a heliocentric system, we believe th at we live in a geocentric system. Let us try to explain this using a parallax. First, we have to choose a subject in front of us. Then, we are to focus on this subject with one eye closed. Raise a thumb to cover the subject. Without moving a single part of the body, the clo sed eye is opened while the other is closed. Try to see of the thumb still cover s the subject. It would show that there has been a shift in the position. The shift in perspective is natural. This is the same thing that happens cosmica lly. Now, the sun is approximately 93,000,000 miles away from us. Given this dis tance, there is a huge difference in perspective. The astrologers and astronomer s have to use the geocentric system for a more personal perspective. They could not be using a chart to know what is going on 93,000,000 miles away. However, it must be noted that heliocentric reality is very real. The only thing is that it is less popular compared to the geocentric one. A specialty astrolog er can actually use a heliocentric perspective. Though a different approach will be used, both perspectives have value. While heliocentric is more generic, geoc entric is more specific. In astrology, both perspectives can be used by an astrologer who is an expert of both. In fact, both can be used simultaneously without one as having an adverse effect on the other because, as mentioned, both have value.

The heliocentric and geocentric perspectives can be used for horoscopes and astr ology readings. Whichever the astrologer is more comfortable using can be an eff ective tool for anyone. However, it is always advised that people should not rel y a hundred percent on astrology readings for these are not absolute. Everything still works according to a preplanned program of God. These astrology readings and horoscopes may serve as guides but not absolute truths. ---------------------------------------------------------Heliocentric System - The system in which cosmographic coordinates are given on the assumption that the Sun is at its center. It is a realistic approach. --------------------------------------------------------------How can Astrology be taken seriously when it is based on a geocentric system? This is one of the key arguments that the detractors of astrology love to use, a ttempting to convince us that astrologers are poorly informed and still believe that the Earth and not the Sun is at the center of the solar system.Yet, the lat ter is further proof that these people do not understand the matter. The fact th at astrology is based on a geocentric system does not mean that astrologers, clo istered in medieval thought, still believe that the Sun revolves around the eart h instead of its opposite. On the contrary, astrology does not deal with knowing whether the Earth is flat or round. It takes note of events taking place in the Sky and compares them with those occurring on Earth because, according to Hermes Trismegistus, what is abov e is below, what is inside is outside. Consequently, everything that happens abov e (in the Sky) must be reflected below (on Earth) and what is inside (in every i ndividual) can be seen outside as well (in their life and microcosm). Therefore, astrology places Earth at the center of its studies. Why? Because, as people, we live on Earth and not on the Sun. This explains why astrology is int erested in events occurring in the Sky above the Earth and in their repercussion s on human life.
