Three Cheers for Commissioner Al Friedenthal

The CJP, after three years of investigation, decided and ordered public admonishment of Los Angeles Superior Court Commissioner Alan H. Friedenthal. Of course the public reprimand is too little, too late. But it may just be the first of many rulings coming from what is alleged to be a ring of corruption that amounts to no less than baby selling in our State Court. Usually criminals of the magnitude suggested here, human trafficers and significant swindlers do not act in a vacuum. They have active accomplices and those who look the other way as a small favor or to promote fraternity. Well, our Halls of Justice are not a frat house (nor a sorority, in the case of Marjorie Steinberg, Elizabeth Feffer or Laurie Zelon.) A commissioner is not elected by the populace. A commissioner is appointed and approved by other judges. Commissioner Friedenthal in particular was acting at the will of the Court, not the will of the people. Even though he placed himself as a political mucky-muck, Friedenthal lost his two bids to be elected into a judgeship. When Friedenthal ran for judge in 2006 he listed 127 additional endorsements on the League of Women Voters Smart Voter Page. Click here (http://www.smartvoter.org/2006/06/06/ca/la/vote/friedenthal_a/endorse.html) to see the entire roster. I presume these folks all endorsed Friedenthal, or they would have told the League to remove them from the list. Following is a small roll call:
