The SEED Project is a 501(c)(3) non-profit that uses education and basketball as tools to help young people realize their potential. Through this, we empower our students to become the mentors and role models for future generations of African youth. Together - they will continue to build a stable, self-reliant Africa.

NIKE HOOP FORUM


The Hoop Forum is the SEED Projects annual event that brings together organizations and individuals using sport as a tool for development across Africa. The Hoop Forum also serves as an opportunity for top international coaches to work with the Senegal Basketball Community uniting the nations top basketball talent and most influential coaches and administrators. The 4-day event (May 30 June 2) provided local and international guests with a balance of elite basketball programing, community youth clinics, and high-level educational seminars and networking opportunities in both Dakar and Thies.

The SEED project was proud to have a record 20 SEED Alumni return to Senegal during the Hoop Forum to participate in activities, mentor upcoming SEED Students, speak about their experiences, and act as ambassadors on behalf of the organization. UNICEF COMMUNITY CLINIC


THURSDAY, MAY 30 I 4PM 6PM I SENGHOR STADIUM, DAKAR
The Hoop Forum tipped off with visiting coaches and SEED Alumni holding a grassroots basketball clinic sponsored by Unicef for 120 students (ages 8-16) from the surrounding communities in Dakar. The event included instruction from NBA coaches and executives as well as stations emphasizing shooting, dribbling and defense.

The Hoop Forum Press conference attracted over 15 media outlets from across the continent to hear about the SEED Project and plans for the upcoming Hoop Forum activities. The Press Conference was attended by local and international media, invited guests, SEEDS Students and Alumni.

After the press conference, guests were invited to the Hoop Forums TipOff cocktail reception at Hotel TerrouBi. More than 75 guests enjoyed passed hors doeuvres and drinks while learning more about the organization from SEED students, faculty, coaches and alumni.

The Hoop Forum symposium featured three, one-hour panels covering a range of topics related to Sport, Education and Leadership Development. Each panel featured a presentation from panelists, moderated questions as well as a Q&A from the audience. PANELS & PANELISTS: GENDER EQUITY + WOMENS EMPOWERMENT Participation in sports can offer physical and psychological benefits that can be used as effective tools for empowering girls and women. This panel engaged leaders in the fields of sport, education, and leadership development who are using sports to increase access to, and opportunities for, young women PANELISTS Sandy Barre, SEEDS, Junior Academy Coordinator Anne Marie Dioh, Founder, AMD Basketball Academy Abdrahmane Diallo, General Advisor, USAID Sala Ba, Education Specialist, USAID Henriette Douf, International Referee, Dr. Social Psychology, FIBA Instructor CNEPS STUDENT-ATHLETE EXPERIENCE Basketball can be utilized as a powerful tool to promote youth development. The sport provides opportunities for young people to develop transferable life skills such as how and when to lead, perseverance in the face of adversity, teamwork, problem-solving, and organizational abilities. This panel featured SEEDS and non SEEDS student athletes who are recent college graduates or currently in college. Visiting coaches and SEED Alumni held a grassroots basketball clinic sponsored by the US Embassy for boys and girls (ages 10-18) in the SIBAC community. The event included instruction from NBA coaches and executives as well as stations emphasizing shooting, dribbling and defense.

LEARNING CENTER REFURBISHMENT

As a tip-off to the day, the Hoop Forum guests, SEED Alumni and SEED students par ticipated in painting SEEDS Academys new Learning Center. The Learning Center will provide SEEDs student-athletes with resources to continue to excel in the classroom. The Learning Center will feature a c o m p u t e r l a b, E n g l i s h l a n g u a ge materials and a study hall area. The Learning Center is set to launch in October, 2013.

JR. SEEDS ACADEMY SHOWCASE


SATURDAY, JUNE 1 I CNEPS, THIES
The Jr. SEEDS Showcase highlighted SEEDs newest after-school program for (52) middle school boys and girls. Coaches, guests, and Jr. SEEDS parents enjoyed a basketball clinic, a conference on the Jr. SEEDS program model, and a tour of the Jr. SEEDS facilities and tutoring sessions. The Jr. SEEDS clinic featured a special session from Hoops 4 Hope hosted by Kita Matungulu (Director Hoops 4 Hope, South Africa) focusing on leadership and life skills training through basketball.

NIKE ELITE CLINICS


SATURDAY + SUNDAY, JUNE 1-2 I CNEPS, THIES
The three Nike Elite Clinics brought together the top 65 players, boys and girls, under-18 in Senegal for two days of elite camps coached by NBA Scouts and Coaches, top international coaches, and SEED Alums. The camp featured dynamic strength and conditioning workouts, fundamental skill development stations and games.

The Coaches Clinic is an opportunity for elite international coaches to share new basketball methodologies with local coaches from throughout Senegal to help grow the game and develop basketball talent in the region. Roberto Carmenati (International Scout, Dallas Mavericks), Giorgio Valli, Head Coach, Avellino - Serie A), and a group of international coaches worked with 36 coaches from across Senegal on new offensive and defensive concepts.

3 ON 3 TOURNAMENT & HOOP FORUM ALL-STAR GAME


SUNDAY, JUNE 2 I NGOR PARKING LOT, DAKAR
The final day of the 2013 Hoop Forum featured a 3-on-3 basketball tournament and a Hoop Forum All Star game. The 3on-3 tournament featured more than 40 boys and girls, ages 16-20, that competed in three different brackets. Winners received product donations from NBA Africa. The Hoop Forum All-Star game featured the top 30 prospects in Senegal that competed in a highlight reel-filled final. More than 300 kids from the surrounding Dakar area enjoyed the games as spectators and the Hoop Forum concluded with closing remarks from Lewis Lukens (US Ambassador to Senegal), Amadou Fall (SEED Founder, VP , NBA Africa) and Ndongo NDiaye (Special Advisor to President Macky Sall).
