Our Church works together!

Let the little children come to me, and do not forbid them, for such is the Kingdom of Heaven. Mark 10:4

The Church Works as a Team

If youve ever played on a team before, you know how important it is to work together. Every player has his own
talents, and the team works best when everybody gets to use them. What would happen if you took off all the way down the soccer field, all by yourself? What if you always pushed your teammates out of the way, and headed towards the goal? Well, youd probably get tired pretty fast. And your coach definitely would not like it. Did you know that our Church works as a team too? Today we celebrate how almost 1,700 years ago, all of the Christian bishops got together, and they worked as a team! They talked about what we believe as Christians. They wrote the first Creed, like the one we recite every Sunday together. The Orthodox Church works as a team because God gave all of us talents, and He wants us to use them in the right way. God the Holy Spirit helps us make the right decisions, just like He did with the Christian bishops so long ago!

Saint Nikitas, a Brave Child Saint

Sometimes children can be even more brave than growngrownups! St. Nikitas was a little boy living
on the Greek island of Nisiros. The Turkish authorities forced his family to become Muslim. They even changed his name to Mehmet. When Nikitas found out that he was really a Christian, he told his mother that he would forget about his Muslim past. He believed in Jesus Christ, and this would never change! When he was a little older, Nikitas joined a monastery on another Greek islandof Chios. He was happy to be a Christian again, but sad that he once said that he was NOT Christian.

Does your church have a banner like this? Can you find it?

Soon the Turkish authorities found out what Nikitas had done. They arrested him, and they took him to prison. Then they killed him. St. Nikitas knew that it was more important to love Christ and to stay with Him. He wanted to be with Jesus Christ in Heaven, so he was not afraid. We remember Saint Nikitas on the day he died, this Friday, June 21st.
