Steve Ortiz I believe that I have grown in my ability to investigate the world through Mrs.

Mohrs Indian Perspectives assignment. In order to fulfill the projects requirements, I had to casually interrogate a person of Indian origin on notable differences between our cultures (some of which included topics that are considered sensitive in the U.S.). I chose my friend Sushant Bansal, whom I met on my trip to China. I had to conduct the investigation through Facebook since we did not have any other means to do so, with a twist. Mrs. Mohr instructed us to carry out our interrogation through the guise of a simple conversation, as people wont divulge as much under formal circumstances. I had to speak to him in a certain manner that wouldnt undermine my ruse, as directly questioning him would lead to inquires about the true motives behind our conversation. Although this sounds quite devious, it was done in a rather amiable manner, since I had not communicated with him in quite a while. So in order to investigate the world, I had to investigate it in a surreptitious manner that would require me to analyze my gathered information in order to properly utilize it in an effective manner. But in order to properly analyze the gathered information, I had to recognize the perspective of Sushant, my Indian friend. Mrs. Mohr prepared me for this portion of the assignment by giving me a summary of Indian culture and history through the use of articles, documentaries, and analyzation of traditions and holidays (such as Holi). In doing this project, I further realized how different two people can be while being similar through their ideas. I read on how India came to be, as well as the different customs that are practiced by the vast majority of its people. In addition, I learned how a majority of Indias population is in the lower class, which typically means that they are not given a good education. My friend was similar to me in which we both carry an innate desire to learn as well as have an avid interest in science. Through the use of this common ground, I was able to understand the different perspectives he had on certain topics, such as the question on whether his marriage would end up being arranged or not (Like a chemical reaction, it all depends if the proper conditions are present). In addition to my aforementioned growth, I believe that in taking my AP European History course, I have significantly grown in knowledge, college readiness, and skills for academic success. For my growth in knowledge, I now fully comprehend Machiavellis ideas on how to properly rule a principality (ideas that can also be implemented in other forms of nations), whereas compared to my previous year, the only form in which the term Machiavelli resided in my mind was as a video game reference. As for my growth in college readiness, this course has taught me how to properly analyze a document for certain information as well as to determine if it expresses any form of bias according to the person who wrote it. This comes from the large amount of Document Based Questions that we had to work on at the end of our units. Finally, for my growth in my skills for academic success, I have greatly improved in my time management

skills due to the large amounts of reading that we had to do on our own, along with the work that usually accompanied it.
