How to Clear PLC Faults using LM90 By: Kamal Alam Tuesday, July 15, 2003 1 of 6

There are two kinds of Faults. One is PLC Fault and second one is I/O Faults. In most cases they are interconnected. There are many kinds of Faults. Some are just warning Faults, which do not cause the PLC to Stop and then there are fatal Faults that cause PLC to Stop. If a PLC has been stopped due to a fatal Fault, then the Fault should be recorded for further investigation, cleared (both PLC and I/O Faults) and then RUN the CPU (by pressing ALT-R. Alt-R will toggle between RUN and STOP). If the RUN light on the Power Supply beside the CPU has dropped out, the follow these Steps below: 1. Run Cimplicity program on the computer. There should be an ICON made already on the Desktop Screen. Just double click on it. In case an icon is not there, click on Start on the lower left bottom screen, then programs, then PLC Programmer, then LM9030 and then Logicmaster 90-30. It is assumed that Your Program property is already configured for Serial Communication for Top Drives and is configured for Ethernet Communication on Rigs. Please see different documentation how to set up communication.

Above menu will Level Two Access level. Then click on the Password button and type in the Password for level 4. Actually Level 2 should allow you to clear faults. Only Level 1 access does not allow anything other than Read Only. Once both PLC and I/O faults have been cleared, the STOP/FAULTS at the bottom will change to STOP/NO IO and Red F will disappear from Green Diamond. Now the PLC is ready to be RUN. To make the CPU run, click on Icon or use menu as mentioned above. The power supply by the CPU will show that RUN light is ON now. If the faults come back, then you must fix the problem first and then try above steps to clear the faults again.
