0 Testing and Commissioning Procedures The following tests will be convened during the testing and commissioning of the system. 7.1 Circuit Breaker 7.1.1 7.1.2 7.1.3 7.1.1 Insulation Resistance Test Contact Resistance of Breaker Time interval of Breaker. Insulation Resistance Test Insulation resistance test conducts with phase and phase to earth. Pole to earth method: Connect the Megger between breaker pole and body of the breaker. At this condition breaker should be closed. Pole to Pole method : Connect the Megger between breaker poles. At this condition the breaker should be open. 7.1.2 Contact Resistance Measurement In this method measure the resistance between breaker pole contacts. Apply 100A dc current between the breaker poles and measure the resistance value and take the readings. 7.1.3 Time Interval of Breaker In this test measure the closing and opening time of the breaker. The close and opening pulse will give to the breaker circuit. The timing value will measure from breaker poles. The value is in milliseconds.

7.2 Bus Bar Resistance 7.2.1 7.2.2 7.2.1 Contact Resistance of Breaker to Breaker. Overall contact resistance Contact Resistance of Breaker to Breaker. In this method measure the contact resistance between panel to panel. Two panel breaker should be closed condition. Connect the leads to both the panel busbars and apply the DC current to the busbar. Measure the resistance values and note down the readings. The value will be in micro Ohms. Overall Contact Resistance. In this method measure the contact resistance between end to end. All breakers should be closed condition. Connect the leads to both end of the panel busbars and apply the DC current to the busbar. Measure the resistance values and note down the readings. The value will be in micro Ohms. 1

7.3 Voltage or Potential Transformer (VT) The following tests to be conducted; 7.3.1 7.3.2 7.3.3 7.3.4 7.3.1 Insulation Resistance measurement (Kit to be used: 5000 V megger) Polarity Check ( Kit to be used : galvanometer with centre point. ) Winding Resistance Test. ( Kit to be used: multimeter) Ratio test (Kit to be used : 230 V supply with multimeter) Insulation Resistance Measurement. Measure the insulation resistance for VT primary and secondary windings with respect to earth. Also the VT primary to secondary. Connect the leads to primary side of the VT with respect to earth. Apply 5000 V for 1 minute and note down the readings. Connect the leads to secondary side of the VT with respect to earth. Apply 500 V for 1 minute and note down the readings. Connect the leads to primary side of the VT with respect to secondary. Apply 1000 V for 1 minute and note down the readings. Polarity Check The DC voltage test momentarily imposes a small DC voltage on one side of a VT (primary) and the direction of the momentary deflection of a meter on the opposite side (secondary) of the VT is noted and compared with polarity marks. Winding Resistance Test. The primary and secondary winding resistance of the VT with respect to their neutrals is measured using the multimeter for each phase. Ratio Test. Applying the voltage on the primary side and by measuring the secondary voltage for each phase by the ratio test. The dividing value of the primary voltage by secondary voltage checks the ratio of the VT. (This is to be done for all three phases).

7.4 Current Transformer (CT) Testing The following tests to be conducted; 7.4.1 Insulation Resistance Measurement 7.4.2 Polarity Check. 7.4.3 Winding Resistance Test. 7.4.4 Ratio Test. 7.4.5 Saturation test 7.4.1 Insulation Resistance measurement Measure the insulation resistance of CT primary and secondary windings with respect to earth. Also the CT primary winding to secondary winding. 2

Connect the leads to primary side of the CT with respect to earth. Apply 5000 V for 1 minute and note down the readings. Connect the leads to secondary side of the CT with respect to earth. Apply 500 V for 1 minute and note down the readings. Connect the leads to primary side of the CT with respect to secondary. Apply 1000 V for 1 minute and note down the readings. 7.4.2 Polarity check The DC voltage test momentarily imposes a small DC voltage on one side of a CT (primary) and the direction of the momentary deflection of a meter on the opposite side (secondary) of the CT is noted and compared with polarity marks. Winding Resistance Test The CT secondary winding resistance between (s1&s2) of the CT is measured using the multimeter for each unit. Ratio Test Applying the current in the primary and by measuring the secondary current in the ratio test. Then dividing the value of the primary current by the secondary current checks the ratio of the CT. (This is to be done for all three phases). Saturation Test ( t o be done only on class x CTs) It is generally defined as the voltage at which a further 10 % increase in volts at the secondary side of the CT requires more than 50% increase in excitation current. It is done by applying voltage to the secondary of the CT and measuring the current.

7.5 High Voltage Test of Bus Bar High voltage test is done by applying 80 % of factory-tested voltage. While doing the HV test the following steps to be taken; 1. All Current Transformer circuits should be shorted or take in to load. 2. All Voltage Transformer must be isolated. 3. All the Circuit Breakers are ON and service position. 4. Before HV test 5 KV megger has to be done. 5. While doing r phase hi-voltage the other two phases are shorted and earthed. (r-y+b+e) 6. HV test as done for 1 minute and the leakage current should be record from the test kit. 7. The Procedure to be done for other phases as well. 8. After HV test, 5 Kv megger has to be done. 7.6 Relay Testing 1. The relay programming is done either by communication using the software and data cable given by the manufactured or by font hmi. 2. Check the protections available in the relay. All the protections has to be tested. 3

3. Then the relays has to be tested by secondary injection through CT and VT terminals using the secondary injection kit according to the manuals. 4. All the binary input/output are to check f or correct for correct scheme operation. 5. Then the led and other settings are to be done as pert the final settings chart.
