After the Younger family moves into the house in Clybourne Park, Walter gets a new job that pays more money. One night, Walter, Mama, and Ruth are sitting in the living room when they hear a ruckus outside. Confused, they wander outside to find a drunken Willy Harris sitting in a rocking chair on their front porch. Time: A Saturday night, two weeks after they move into the new house. (Walter hears a noise outside and looks at the window.) Walter: Whats going on out there? Mama: (Confused) what ya talkin bout, Walter Lee? Walter: There was a noise outside. (Everyone looks at the door.) Yall wait here. Im gonna go check it out. (Walter gets up and opens the door) Well Ill be damned! (Mama and Ruth rush outside) Willy: (Drunkenly) Hey, old friend! (Walter attacks Willy and throws him on the ground) Ruth: Oh my Lord!

Mama: (To herself) Lord, give us strength Walter Lee, let go of that boy! Walter: (ignoring his mother) Wheres my money? Willy: (Laughing and stumbling to his feet) What money? Walter: (Outraged) What money? The money you stole from my family! The money that was made out of my fathers flesh! Willy: (Scratching his head) Its gone, man. Walter: What you mean Its gone? Willy: I aint got it anymore. The mob found me and took everything, man. I swear! Walter: (Fuming) Then where did you get all of this gold and fur? How much was them Stacy Adams? Or that suit? (Walter stomps toward Willy) (Curtains flutter in a window next door) Ruth: (Seeing the curtains move, she holds Walter back with febble arms) Cmon, honey, before them white folks start complaining. Walter: (not wanting to get kicked out of the neighborhood) If I see you around here again, youre a dead man! (Willy passes out)

(Police sirens crescendo in the background) Mama: Walter Lee, get in this house NOW! (Everyone goes inside. They pause and look at each other, each face reflecting a different emotion) Ruth: (rubbing her belly, swollen with her unborn child

) Well, what do we ---(Beneatha walks in, slamming the door) Beneatha: What in the world is goin on? There is a police car outside and Willy is passed out on our front lawn! (Walter, Mama, and Ruth look at each other again and, simultaneously, sigh) Ruth: Bennie, I think you better sit down. Curtain
