MAINTENANCE CARBURETOR. Refer to TIL LOTSON Carburetor Section for operation and overhaul data. Normal initial setting for both needles is one turn open from closed position. Both needles must be adjusted for smoothest engine operation under actual conditions with engine warm.
SPARK PLUG. NGK Spark Plugs are standard equipment. The recommendations given in CONDENSED SERVICE DATA Tables are for normal operation. A different heat range may give more satisfactory performance under some conditions. Refer to Spark Plug Selection paragraphs of FUNDAMENTALS Section for information. IGNITION AND TIMING. Breaker point gap should be 0.3-0.4 mm (0.120.016 inch) on all models. Except for Model 225 and 248, engines are equipped with a centrifugal timing advance which provides retarded timing for starting only. Points can be adjusted after removing recoil starter, starting pulley and flywheel window plates. LUBRICATION. The engine is lu bricated by oil mixed with the fuel. The manufacturer recommends Air Cooled, Two Stroke Engine Oil, SAE 30 and Regular gasoline at a ratio of 20:1. Refer also to vehicle manufacturer's recommendation. REPAIRS TIGHTENING TORQUES. Refer to following table for correct tightening torques. Measurements are given in ft.lbs. Cylinder head 15-18 Crankcase 15-18 Flywheel 75
Remainder of bolts should be tightened to standard torque. ASSEMBLY AND DISASSEMBLY. Refer to Fig. 1 for an exploded view of 225 engine and Fig. 2 for view of engine typical of other models. 19 20
