Dear Madam/ Sir, My name is Xemein Oiartzabal. I am 30 year old architect from the Basque Country, Spain with experience from San Francisco, Zurich and Copenhagen. I have noticed your interesting work on your website and I am interested in applying for an intern architect position. I spent the last year working in Fougeron Architecture in San Francisco. I have just arrived to Norway after spending the last year working in Fougeron Architecture in San Francisco. My partner (samboer), who is Norwegian, is employed as a scientist at the University and we live at Grnland, Oslo. I am very interested in broadening my experience as an architect and further develop my own career by seeking new challenges. Some more detailed about myself: I graduated with Master of Arch. Degree from the University of the Basque Country. As my resume shows, I have a strong background in both academic and professional experience. For six month I worked in Gmr & Geschwentner Architekten office in Zurich, where I contributed to planning, modeling and design. This includes design competitions, design and construction drawings, modeling and marketing. Last year I worked at Fougeron Architecture a well- renowned architectural firm in San Francisco. This office works primary on residential projects. At Fougeron I was responsible for design, construction and marketing both residential and housing projects. During my studies I spent 2 years in Copenhagen. This experience made me interested in Scandinavian architecture, in the minimalistic and elegant way to work. It also helped me to integrate to learn about Scandinavian culture and living. After spending some time in San Francisco, Zurich and Copenhagen I feel I have broad experience that could be useful in your office. Your firm is a company that would provide me with the opportunity to put my personality, skill and success to work within a unique an exiting architectural design environment. I am energetic girl and once you know me I think you will find me passionate, organized and hard working. I have also submitted a copy of my resume and portfolio. I look forward to hearing from you. Sincerely, Xemein Oiartzabal.

Mjlnerparken Internationale Kulturhus i Kbenhavn

In a neighborhood of Nrrebro in Copenhagen we have the largest population of muslims in Denmark. Knowing the hierarchical organization in the Arabic world, especially women do not leave this area and do not integrate which contribute making it almost a ghetto. Seeing this problem, the danish society decides to build an international culture house close to Mjlnerparken to give a solution to all these people, and mainly women in this neighborhood. As a result, the project consists of three buildings: 1- for the general public where different cultures will relate: danish, muslims, europeans, americans... 2- Another private with a social character. Only for the immigrants of the area and specially for the women, who need a place to meet where have a legal help and psychological help/support to educate to the new generations and facilitate their integration, and to work from the beginning with the kids supporting their identity in the native country, which in this case is Denmark. 3-Finally the mosque: a space that men and women have in common. This volume in the project physically joins the first and the second space. And symbolically is a bridge between the two cultures. Taking into account the suggestions and needs of the people who will use this center, it is important to do a building where elements of both cultures blend- as much in the concept as in the design, in the integration of the material, so everybody feels identified and represented.

This illustration is a proposition to satisfy the desires constituted by the neighbourhood association. I propose a autonomous city inside the city of Copenhagen. It will have a principal gate that respresents a key to get into the new city. Once through the door we will be in another world, a familiar space for people with arabic roots, a space that reminds them of what they left behind and a place that makes them feel close to their roots.

The external wall will be of one metre width in total built up from 2 different independent walls, the first 40 cm thick while the second one will be of 30 cm. In this way small courtyards will be defined by the spaces between the walls.

When I was an internship at HENNING AND LARSEN ARCHITECTS I worked mostly in the modelling section with the projects mentioned in my CV section. I made models for competitions or just for clients and they were in different scales and with many different materials.

This project started with a workshop on the buildings history. The terrain presented nowadays contain a building that does not function properly. The workshops objective was to analyze the place, the old constructed building, present problems, the users problems etc. Thus here we found new needs previously unaccounted for and this became objective of the project. The land of the builiding is located within a block. There are three kinds of users for the building: the neighbors, the young people from Nrrebro and the sportsmen/sportswomen. Each one have a space in the new building, in a different plane. So the neighboors have their garden in +0m. The youth center and the sports center are located at +3m. And the outdoor space open to everybody is situated at +6 m, on the roof of the building. Building materials: concrete, wood and glass.
