Watch and Pray

My wife, Janet, is a fantastic gift-giver. Among other gifts on this recent Fathers Day, there was a beautiful, largefaced Stuhrling watch. It has the open skeleton mechanical movement, being able to see the mechanism under the crown. If you pull back the various layers of our ministry and see the skeleton of ministry, prayer operates and motivates our church. It is not accidental or incidental, but a vital part of outreach and discipling. Of course, I dont think Jesus had my timepiece in mind when He said to the sleepy disciples, Dr. Hayes Wicker Watch and pray (Mark 14:38). Senior Pastor We will have special Nights of Prayer and Praise services this summer, beginning with this Sunday evening. This will be a time of musical praise and worship as we Sing to the Lord a new song and His praise in the congregation of the godly ones (Psalm 149:1). We cry aloud with our voice to the Lord and make supplication to Him (Psalm 142:1, 2). In this time of national upheaval and international unrest, we must declare our trouble before Him, and when we are brought very low ask Him to deliver us from our persecutors (Psalm 142:2, 6). There is so much to ask, seek, and knock concerning Christs kingdom and His work (Matthew 7:7). We never merit answers to our prayers or earn Gods response, but are cast upon His grace. He has chosen prayer as a vehicle for implementing His will, His chosen way to bring heavens power, resources, and angels into action on earth. As the great English preacher, Charles Spurgeon, said, He who knows how to overcome with God in prayer has Heaven and earth at his disposal. I would ask that you would join with others this Sunday to strive with us in our prayers (Romans 15:30). This will not be a time of preaching, but asking God to bring revival to our nation, homes, and church. As in other sweet times, you will sense the presence of the Lord and the love of His people. The so-called prayer meeting has historically seen the smallest attendance. While I would love to see hundreds crying out to God together, the issue is quality not quantity. But unlike my new watch, though the power of God is available to us, it must be appropriated and is not automatic and self-winding. Jesus still reminded us that when He comes, He wants to find faith on the earth, particularly of His Chosen ones who cry out to Him day and night (Luke 18:7, 8). If you are unwilling to ask, dont expect great answers. If you are unwilling to fight, dont expect great victories. I will guide the prayer time as the Holy Spirit directs. Just come with open heart and hands. Though the Swiss make wonderful watches and live in a beautiful country, their historical neutrality concerning wars is not the standard for our spiritual battles. You are either on the front lines with Jesus in prayer or fleeing to the rear.

Missions Kiosk
The work of Word of Life Fellowship began in Hungary in the mid 1980s, while Hungary was still under communism. Since 1990, it has served every summer as the Word of Life children and youth camp where young people come and hear the message of the Gospel. In 1993, they opened the Word of Life Hungary Bible Institute, a place where college students come to strengthen not only their Bible knowledge, but their application of that knowledge and their own personal walks with the Lord. Stop by the Missions Kiosk in the Commons this weekend to find out more about this ministry that is evangelizing and discipling the youth of Hungary and Central Europe.
