About the Institute

Indian Institute of Information Technology, Design and Manufacturing (IIITD&M) Kancheepuram is center of excellence established by MHRD. Govt. of India in 2007 with the mandate of specializing in design and manufacturing oriented educational institute. Human resource development reforms of the past have helped India to attain global recognition in knowledge and IT enabled services. A strong foothold in the design market will propel the nations growth and IIITD&Ms are a result of the Government of India vision to produce next generation engineers equipped with design and manufacturing skills. The industry driven adaptive management structure of the institute provides ability to respond to challenges of the future. In addition to the three innovative UG programmes, the institute offers novel post graduate programmes such as Master of Design (M.Des.) and research programs leading to a Doctoral degree. The institute maintains a healthy faculty student ratio to impart quality education. Strong industry interface and close co-operation with other academic and research institutes are the key features of this institute. State of the art campus is situated in Chennai which is 30km from Chennai International Airport.

Mechanical Stream
The Mechanical Engineering stream was started in the year 2007. It offers both PG and UG programmes. The Mechanical Engineering curriculum is designed to provide advanced theoretical and practical treatment of all aspects relevant to the design, development and production of mechanical systems. The B.Tech. Mechanical Engineering (Design & Manufacturing) supplements the existing curriculam with design and manufacturing issues. Our M.Des. curriculum is designed to train the students in simulating design problems faced in modern industry by combining creative and technical skills. State of the art laboratories train the students in software such as ANSYS, ALGOR, UNIGRAPHICS, MATLAB and advanced machines such as ZEISS CMM, Z-3D Printer and ABB Robot in the cutting edge technologies.

Scope of the Workshop

The continuous technological developments in design and manufacturing shows great promise in todays industry. Since rapid product development is an integration of various time compression technologies, consistently monitoring and leading the current technological difficulties both in design and manufacturing is compulsory to deliver the product with its intended functions. By this perspective continuously facilitating the knowledge to the Mechanical Engineering community and re-education is indispensable. This workshop mainly focuses on the research and technological challenges in design and manufacturing during the process of rapid product development and manufacturing.
